I also had this strange behaviour. The ifupdown module wasn't loaded, anymore:

It is interesting that ftp://ftp.netlib.org/minpack/ includes several
FORTRAN files that are not offered at http://ftp.netlib.org/minpack.
However, all the extra files seem to be for code testing. covar.f is
not referenced by any of the other files, and there's no documentation
showing how to use

Thanks for the bug report.
It looks like the best way to fix this issue is to add a
"HAS_INTERNET" (or perhaps in this case, HAS_LOCALHOST or HAS_NETWORK)
style flag to disable tests unless it is known that localhost is
available.

to KDE4 suffered from a visually broken KDM login screen.
By removing two old KDE3 theme packages that were left installed,
despite the upgrade. to KDE4, the KDM greeter now displays correct
