i got help on #quagga on freenode for this one, matter of fact.
By setting "/proc/sys/net/ipv6/bindv6only = 1" you get one socket per
protocol and the address is not ipv6-in-ipv4-mapped anymore.

I'm able to reproduce the bug but I'm getting a different error message:
$ /usr/bin/mutt -a /etc/fstab madd...@madduck.net
madd...@madduck.net: unable to attach file.
and the debug file says:
