I think I solved this,
the files
/etc/bash.bash_logout
/etc/profile.d
/etc/profile.d/tzset.sh
/etc/profile.d/tzset.csh
/etc/profile.d/lang.csh
/etc/profile.d/lang.sh
/etc/bash.bashrc
/etc/skel/.inputrc
/etc/skel/.profile
/etc/skel/.bashrc
/etc/skel/.bash_profile
/etc/profile
were all located
So just an update as to what ended up happening to my Cygwin ---
Yes, the commands were available when I typed the full path. I should
have known that. But updating the permissions to 644 did not work. I
could not set the owner and group to "root" because there weren't such

Sorry. I'm requesting an RFU now.

Others have mentioned things for you
Still no luck. Since I don't have "uname" command either, I decided to
"reinstall" the "cygwin" (1.7.10-1) and "coreutil" (8.15-1) packages
by running the setup and selecting "reinstall". I rebooted my PC
before doing this so there should not have been any Cygwin processes
running.
After this, I'm

David,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
Since I also don't have "chmod" and "chown" commands, I tried to set
the permission on those file in "C:\cygwin\etc\defaults\etc" (I assume
that's the location for "/etc") using Windows file properties dialog
box - I went to the "Security" and gave "full co

I've been happy with 1.7.9, but couldn't resist my curiosity so ran
the 1.7.10-1 setup today. During the process it complained that Cygwin
is running and offered me options to either stop the Cygwin and try
again, or continue and reboot after it is done. So I selected to
continue and then rebooted.

Hi,
I have windows 2008 R2 servers with cygwin 1.7 installed.
When i want to execute the cluster.exe command, I have :
seber...@flosapptest02 /cygdrive/c/windows/system32
$ ./cluster res
bash: ./cluster: No such file or directory
On a DOS prompt the command works..
Then I do a 'ls cluster*' in

I've attached the cygcheck, and also the output of env. The
wrong directories
definitely seem to be in my path. I am used to changing

I cured it when I had to, for other reasons, reinstall. Place the setups in
one directory and should be OK. Having a separate setup in a "package"
directory caused the problem.

First I'd like to say that I am sorry for having to ask this. But I have
searched the site, read the faqs and documentation, and poked around the
directory structure and I am still at a loss.
Basically I just can't use any of the commands. 'cd' and 'pwd' seem to work,
but 'ls' and even 'man' don'
