[Bug 1661876] Re: [Asus UX360UA] battery status in unity-panel is not changing when battery is being charged

2018-03-30 Thread tjiagoM
I think I did as I described in #48. Did I miss some step?

I (think) I have enabled proposed by:

Adding:

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ xenial-proposed restricted main
multiverse universe

to /etc/apt/sources.list

And creating the file /etc/apt/preferences.d/proposed-updates with the
following content:
Package: *
Pin: release a=xenial-proposed
Pin-Priority: 400

I have run "sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade", reboot, but no
4.13 option appear in grub. Just the ones I currently have (like 4.16,
4.4, etc)

What am I doing wrong here?

[Bug 1661876] Re: [Asus UX360UA] battery status in unity-panel is not changing when battery is being charged

2018-03-31 Thread tjiagoM
I enabled HWE (by running `sudo apt-get install --install-recommends
linux-generic-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04`), and indeed a new
kernel was installed (4.13.0-37-generic).

It's still not the one you mention. Maybe because it's not yet available
in ubuntuu 16.04?

Also, I'm a bit confused to what to do as described in #38. I kinda see
that I have to accept things from -proposed, but then what packages I
have to install? How can I actually then change to `verification-done-
artful`?

I don't understand why all those steps if I confirmed already that after
installing kernel v4.16rc1 everything is corrected.

[Bug 1661864] Re: [Asus UX360UA] Some Keyboard and hardware not recognised automatically

2017-12-21 Thread tjiagoM
An update on this issue now that I have kernel 4.14:

After executing `uname -a`, I have the following output:
`Linux tjiagom-UX360UA 4.14.0-041400-generic #201711122031 SMP Sun Nov 12
20:32:29 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux`

So, with kernel 4.14, the hardware buttons are now working, but FN+F7
(turn off the screen) still doesn't work.

About FN+F2 (flight mode), seems it's working but the light doesn't turn
on or off.

About FN+F5 / FN+F6, it's the same of my last comment.

@Kai-Heng, when the screen is rotated, the keyboard is locked, so that is
detected somehow. Also, if you go to the screen display properties, you can
rotate whether it is Unity or Gnome or others.
Thus, I guess it should be possible to combine this in some way.

Yes, that's the picture that shows up with 100% as well (although I'm

When the battery is not full, the icon is shown properly, I guess that

[Bug 1661876] Re: [Asus UX360UA] battery status in unity-panel is not changing when battery is being charged

2018-01-09 Thread tjiagoM
Dear Kai, I tried that kernel with a battery 95% full

- While charging the laptop, the battery symbol appeared as charging (as
it was before, nothing new here).

- When it reached 100%, the battery symbol appeared as full, but not
with the charging symbol. So, the problem still persists here, as the
electric wire was still connected to the electricity. When connected to
the electricity, the symbol should be as charging (like in previous
versions of Ubuntu).

- After a while, the battery symbol simply disappeared from the above
unity bar.

- So, I tried to unplug the wire from the laptop and the symbol appeared
again, now with 99%, but without the symbol of charging. So, I guess
again, the issue still persists.

kernel. When that happens, I remove the wire and the output of the same command
is:
  Battery #1 : Discharging, 100.0%, 10:00:21
  AC adapter : off-line

So, I put it again, and running the same command again:
  Battery #1 : Full, 99.40%
  AC adapter : online
(not sure this last thing of the 99% thing is an issue with the battery)

I'm attaching a screenshot so you can see the symbol (it's the same with 100%
and charging).

The output of `gsettings (...)` is always 'charge'

When the icon disappears, the output of `acpitool -a -b` is:

  Battery #1 : Full, 100.0%

[Bug 1661876] Re: [Asus UX360UA] battery status in unity-panel is not changing when battery is being charged

2018-01-12 Thread tjiagoM
Yes, that last command makes the icon appear, writing "100%", and with
the charging symbol! Shouldn't the icon-policy be set to present by
default (I guess this would solve the issue)?

However, that strange thing about the battery being at 98% (or even 95%
sometimes) and recognising it as full, continues to happen. I have to
explore more to see whether it is a problem with the battery or with
ubuntu.

[Bug 1661876] Re: [Asus UX360UA] battery status in unity-panel is not changing when battery is being charged

2018-01-13 Thread tjiagoM
Ok, I doubt that I accidentally changed it, but we never know, thanks
for sorting this out.

By the way, just to be noted down, I think the problem was solved just
in the kernel you asked me to try. I have switched back to kernel 4.14,
and I just noticed that although I have 100% in my battery and laptop is
connected to electricity, the charging symbol doesn't show up.

(Strange) output of `acpitool -a -b`:
  Battery #1 : Discharging, 100.0%
  AC adapter : online

And output of `gsettings get com.canonical.indicator.power icon-policy`:
'present'

(Just to be written down what were the differences in the output to my current
kernel)

[Bug 1661864] [NEW] [Asus UX360UA] Some Keyboard and hardware not recognised automatically

2017-02-04 Thread tjiagoM
Public bug reported:

I've just installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 in dualboot on top of an Asus
UX360UA, alongside with Windows 10. I've already installed the updates
meanwhile.

The following sequence of keys are not working:

FN+F2 (activate flight mode?) - I think in a way it stops my internet
connection but I don't see any visual feedback on the screen nor the
light in the "F2" key is turned on/off

FN+F5 / FN+F6 (adjust brightness)

FN+F7 (turn off screen)

Also, the hardware buttons on left side of the laptop for changing the volume
are not working. I click on them and the volume keeps the same

I have the same laptop with the same problem (not booting after
installing it). I don't know how to get the boot logs that you shown but
for some reason this workaround is working for me:

In the GRUB menu I select the ubuntu as supposed. But then I select it,
immediately when the black screen appears, I press "CTRL" + "ALT" + "F1"
and it starts immediately.

[Bug 1661876] [NEW] [Asus UX360UA] battery status in unity-panel is not changing when battery is being charged

2017-02-04 Thread tjiagoM
Public bug reported:

I've just installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 in dualboot on top of an Asus
UX360UA, alongside with Windows 10. I've already installed the updates
meanwhile.

When I start charging my computer the battery icon on the unity-panel is
not changing (it stays in the 98% complete).

This is strange because this is a fresh installation so I didn't change any
configuration yet. Also, when I tried this ubuntu in the live pen, I noticed
that the icon changed when I started charging the laptop. That's why I think it
is a bug.

[Bug 1661878] [NEW] [Asus UX360UA] Physical screen rotation is not detected

2017-02-04 Thread tjiagoM
Public bug reported:

I've just installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 in dualboot on top of an Asus
UX360UA, alongside with Windows 10. I've already installed the updates
meanwhile.

This laptop has a 360º degree rotating screen. When I physically rotate
my screen, Windows (or some installed driver, I don't know) detects
that. Consequently, the image being displayed in the screen is rotated
180º and the keyboard is blocked. However, Ubuntu doesn't do nothing
when I rotate the screen.

I think this is a bug because a fresh Ubuntu installation should recognise
these laptop features. I searched a little bit and it seems there are some
workarounds on this, but I guess Ubuntu installation should recognise this
automatically?

** Description changed:

I've just installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 in dualboot on top of an Asus
UX360UA, alongside with Windows 10. I've already installed the updates
  meanwhile.

This laptop has a 360º degree rotating screen. When I physically rotate
my screen, Windows (or some installed driver, I don't know) detects
that. Consequently, the image being displayed in the screen is rotated
180º and the keyboard is blocked. However, Ubuntu doesn't do nothing
  when I rotate the screen.

- I think this is a bug because a fresh Ubuntu installation should
- recognise these laptop features. I searched a little bit and it seems
- there are some workarounds on this, but I guess Ubuntu installation
- should recognise this automatically?

[Bug 1661864] Re: [Asus UX360UA] Some Keyboard and hardware not recognised automatically

2017-02-07 Thread tjiagoM
Hi,

I tested the upstream kernel and why some keys are now working, others
don't.

So, in a nutshell:
FN+F2 (activate flight mode?) - It seems it is working now, at least I see
wireless and bluetooth turning off/on. However, if I do the following: press it
(turn flight mode off), and press it again (turn on), the light is on...
Shouldn't the light be on just when flight mode is on? When the computer
starts, the light is off

FN+F5 / FN+F6 - working now! However, it doesn't go to the minimum of
brightness. If I open the "Brightness & Lock" I can reduce it more than
with the keys

FN+F7 (turn off screen) - still not working

Hardware buttons in the left side of the laptop still don't work.

[Bug 1661876] Re: [Asus UX360UA] battery status in unity-panel is not changing when battery is being charged

2017-02-07 Thread tjiagoM
I forgot to mention something in the original report (it happens in both
the kernels):

I discovered that when I plug my electric wire when the battery is not
full, the icon of charging appears. However, when it gets to the 100%,
the charging icon disappears again.

[Bug 1661878] Re: [Asus UX360UA] Physical screen rotation is not detected

2017-02-07 Thread tjiagoM
So, it seems that in the upstream kernel the physical rotation is
detected. I say this because when I rotate the 360º the keyboard is
blocked (I try to write and I can't).

However, the screen is not rotated automatically nor any clue that
something happened is shown in the screen, as we would expect.

So, I guess, the bug still exists in the upstream kernel, but with some
differences.

[Bug 1645056] Re: [Asus UX360UA] Unable to boot

2017-02-07 Thread tjiagoM
I would like to say two things I discovered meanwhile regarding this
issue, with the same laptop that I also have:

- I tested with upstream kernel (4.10 rc7 [1]) and the laptop booted as
a charm. @fireantology can you test with this new kernel, please? I
think you did with 4.9 and there is a new one now. Just to confirm that
we have the same problem.

- This painful workaround ctrl + alt + F1 is working, but just when I
boot my computer without being plugged to energy. When I try to turn my
laptop on with the wire plugged to energy, I just can't make it start.

[Bug 1645056] Re: [Asus UX360UA] Unable to boot

2017-03-09 Thread tjiagoM
The CTRL+ALT+F1 workaround that I mention, it seemed just coincidence. Now I
just reboot and reboot again until it boots, without hitting the keyboard.
The kernel I has now is 4.4.0-66-generic

Taihsiang, as no one seems to be interested in solving this, at least
there is a workaround which worked for me, go with the upstream kernel.
