[Bug 139271] Re: Brother MFC does not allow setting 2nd tray paper size independently

2008-10-22 Thread theducks
Unable to get 8.10 to install (video bug) on my Toshiba laptop.
Was unable to get 8.10 to upgrade on a Abit based desktop (may have been flaky
RAM).
Had not retried since RAM error was cleared (memtest86+ to the diagnosis).
Loaded Live CD 8.10 beta (no updates)
Installed Networked Printer, Brother MFC 8820D

Options indicate 2 trays (This may also be incorrect. I have the
standard flip down MP/Manual feed tray, and a standard cassettee (loaded
with "Letter") AND I have an OPTIONAL extra cassette loaded with "Legal"
That is 3 separate settings in "Windows"

but Job Options only have (Tray1?) default.
Brothers are stupid in that you need to tell each "Windows" PC the paper size
installed in each tray (un-like HP where the tray setting tells the printer
what it is set for and it communicates this to the driver).

Test 1 print test page on "letter" set in job options.
Passed
Test 2 print test page on "Legal" set in job options:
Failed: Printed on Letter

Test 3 tried to print 3 page example document. Many failed: retries
Printed Duplex, Fit page width. Failed: page came out with image tiny on Left
edges (3 sides, 2 sheets), with some of the Logo trimmed more than on screen.

[Bug 139271] Re: Brother MFC does not allow setting 2nd tray paper size independently

2008-10-22 Thread theducks
Retried test 3 with Gutsy (8.04)
Printed Single sided, Ignored Duplex No Tumble setting.
Ignored "Legal" setting.

There may be "Operator Error" on Intrepid.
There is a place to set Paper size AND specify a TRAY.
My question:
If I select Tray 1 and Letter. Apply
Tray 2 and Legal. Apply
MP Tray and Comcl-10. Apply

are all 3 stored? When I click OK.

Do applications like Evince Viewer printing read which tray to use by
paper size selected?

[Bug 156907] Re: Gutsy Alternate install CD informs of "package download time" even if user opts for CD upgrade only.

2007-10-24 Thread theducks
To add
I saw the progress bar jump about in both directions.
Download times (when displayed) were all over the board even though the files
were (supposed to be) from the alternate CD (valid Network was present).

Even if this is a very low priority, it presents a *messy* looking appearance
to users.
Overall progress bars should only increment, otherwise it appears as 1 step
forward, three steps backwards.

[Bug 139271] Re: Brother MFC does not allow setting 2nd tray paper size independently

2009-09-06 Thread theducks
Re-tested on 9.04 normal patches up to date.

Using Print test page: prints on Letter even though "Tray 2" selected and Media
size set to Legal. <<
and there appears to be a scale issue with the image missing (off the page) the
top and right side
CUPS V1.3.x indicated on the test page (when set to print on Letter), truncated
after the 1 when set to Legal.

Printing from Firefox 3.0.13: (FF Page setup) US Legal, used Legal paper
but formatted on page as "Letter".

Notes:
Postscript Level 3
Version 3010 (864)
GPL Ghostscript
Serial 42

Note: May be related
The first print job to this printer after a Windows computer prints, from
Ubuntu 8.x or 9.4 results in an error page (attached). Sending the job again
prints.
