[Bug 400515] [NEW] kdm starts well but it crashes when trying to restart
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdm I'm running a kubuntu jaunty amd64 in a thinkpad t61p with nvidia drivers. When I boot the laptop everything goes ok but when I try to restart the X, it crashes. I tried with /etc/init.d/kdm restart, in the kdm menu and by ctrl+alt+backspace, and the result is that X crashes and I have eventually to reboot the system. ** Affects: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - kdm start well but it crashes when trying to restart + kdm starts well but it crashes when trying to restart -- kdm starts well but it crashes when trying to restart https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/400515 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 400515] Re: kdm starts well but it crashes when trying to restart
Actually, I had to downgrade to nvidia 180 because nvidia 185.18.31 had a bug in my laptop and X didn't start at all. However, nvidia had another bug for this driver and X crashed for some applications like smplayer, kaffeine, kdevelop... whenever, for instance I opened the open file window, among others. Such two bugs have been already fixed with the new nvidia 185.18.36, but the original situation descripted here came back again. So now everything is working properly but when I try to restart X. When I do that X doesn't restart and I have to reboot the system. Do you know any way to avoid this? Is anyone suffering the same or is it just me? I mean when I try to move between folders or when I try to select a particular file, the process is extremely long, and I would say it is something related to the kde theme. [Bug 444637] Re: systemsettings crashed when choosed language region
I have realized that kde4libs is related to: kdelibs-bin, kdelibs5. But they depend on kdelibs5-data which won't be installed (>= 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu1~ppa1~jaunty3). The same happens to me with plasma- widget-networkmanagement, which depends on network-manager (>= 0.8~). I guess I have to wait a little bit... [Bug 351222] Re: KDM cannot be started with the nvidia driver
I have realized that what I said before is not completely true: "It's something weird because when I reconfigure the kernel and then reboot it works but only for the first time, then the problem comes back again, what I don't understand why". Actually, either I don't understand what is going on or this is a random error that only happens around half of the times, but reconfiguring the kernel doesn't seem to help. -- KDM cannot be started with the nvidia driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351222 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 351222] Re: KDM cannot be started with the nvidia driver
Thanks Bruce for your feedback! I will open a new bug Tomorrow. Today I spent some time testing what could be the source of the problem, so I decided to install gdm to check if this issue also appears, or not, using gdm. After testing that, what I can say is that it seems that there is something wrong in kdm while interacting with X and nvidia drivers (maybe only in 64 bits?) because this is not happening at all in gdm (gdm works like a charm in my kubuntu karmic 64 bits with nvidia 185 driver). As a kde user, and fan ;), I would rather prefer to use kdm than gdm, which requires to install a lot of gnome packages that otherwise I wouldn't need, but I am afraid that I will have to use gdm for a while until this bug is fixed. As I said before I will open a bug to see if this problem can be fixed as soon as possible, but using gdm can be a good temporal workaround. -- KDM cannot be started with the nvidia driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351222 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 420411] [NEW] vpn connection handshake times out too soon
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager-openvpn NetworkManager only waits 40 seconds for the VPN to come up. This is too short when using a slow connection as for instance a 64kbps GPRS connection. Calling openvpn manually also timeouts sometimes with the default timeout (60s?), but I am able to override it using the "connect-timeout" option in the configuration file and solve the problem. [Bug 396058] Re: [needs-packaging] libnet-ssh-perl-perl
Net::SSH::Perl was removed from Debian a long time ago because of its dependency with libpari that has a non-free license. Anyway, Net::SSH::Perl is an old and unmaintaned module with lots of bugs. You may like to use Net::OpenSSH instead which is already available in Debian/Ubuntu, and maybe with the Net::OpenSSH::Compat adapter (also available) which is compatible with Net::SSH::Perl at the API level. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/396058 Title: [needs-packaging] libnet-ssh-perl-perl To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/396058/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1425121] [NEW] plink fails to signal connection errors
Public bug reported: When plink fails to connect to the remote host and authenticate successfully, it not always exists with a non-zero return code. Happens in both the version packed in Ubuntu (Dec 13 2014 17:09:53) and the git master branch. This bug is important for people using plink in automated scripts as myself as it is impossible to differentiate between the case where the remote command executed correctly and the case where there were some kind of failure.
