independent system with /etc/alternatives as Ubuntu does, since it works

[Bug 238304] [NEW] Grub: menu.lst isn't generated correctly

2008-06-08 Thread rohdef
Public bug reported:

When I installed Kubuntu the installer detected a disk that was disabled
in the bios causing the real hd0 to appear as hd1 (and my system not
being able to boot). I'm not sure the actual problem lies with grub, but
more likely with the process that detects my disks and detects the disk
that is disabled in the bios.

[Bug 238304] Re: Grub: menu.lst isn't generated correctly

2008-06-08 Thread rohdef
I don't have the disk that made the error occur anymore, so I guess the
output would be useless? Or should I still generate it?

The system at the time being was:
IDE 1, primary master, Seagate 120 gb fluid disk (not in my box anymore)
IDE 3 and 4 DVD-drive and burner
Sata controller 1 + 2, Seagate 500 gb fluid disk

Motherboard: Abit IC7-Max3 (Intel 875p chipset)
CPU: Pentium 4 2.8 ghz with hyperthreading enabled.
Bios: If I remember correctly Award Bios (I'll check at next reboot)

System: Kubuntu 8.04

IDE 1 was disabled in the bios.

If the messages is still relevant, please say so, and I'll get them for
you, and if anything else could be used please do hesitate to ask.

[Bug 348109] [NEW] Vuze/Azureus openjdk hardcoded to executeable

2009-03-24 Thread rohdef
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: azureus

There is a bug in the vuze and azureus startup-script. They default to
openjdk and totally ignore whatever I have set with update-java-
alternatives

When I try to run it I get:

roh...@elysia:~$ vuze
exec: 11: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/java: not found
roh...@elysia:~$ azureus
exec: 11: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/java: not found

and I'd hardly blame it since I completely removed openjdk

Please make those files refer to the Java in /etc/alternatives as it
should.

For others who like me doesn't want/can't work with openjdk, the current
modification (has to be done with root) can be done to /usr/bin/azureus:
#!/bin/sh
## JAVA='/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/java -Xmx1024M'
JAVA='/etc/alternatives/java -Xmx1024M'

[Bug 349418] [NEW] Huawei e220 either appears double in network manager, don't appear at all or disappears after a while

2009-03-27 Thread rohdef
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

First of, part of this bug relates to, and some parts might be fixed along with
these.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/342775
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/290177

First of, I confirm the first bug, but I got some additional behaviour.
When I try to connect one of the modems they sometimes disappear. If I
actually get a successful connection it disconnects and the modem
disappears.

The first behaviour is IF the modem appears first. Although this was
mostly fixed by removing the password it still happens once in a while.

Regarding bug nr 2, there is additional bad behaviour in Jaunty, since
it's impossible to get the modem to show at all in the network manager
if it's pincode-protected and I give it the pin-code. Only way to make
it work is make it accept the pin, reboot and then try to connect, where
I mostly end up with the behaviour above.

I'm not sure what information that would be helpful, but I ran a dmesg
and only interesting bit is what happens when I successfully connect:

[ 465.988387] option1 ttyUSB1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now disconnected
from ttyUSB1
[ 465.999094] option1 ttyUSB0: GSM modem (1-port) converter now disconnected
from ttyUSB0
[ 466.430997] option1 ttyUSB2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now disconnected
from ttyUSB2
[ 466.431600] option1 ttyUSB3: GSM modem (1-port) converter now disconnected
from ttyUSB3

Please provide me what I can do to help finding the problem(s?).

[Bug 413485] [NEW] Huawei E220 won't finalize connection

2009-08-14 Thread rohdef
Public bug reported:

I've had this problem for a while now. When I try to connect to 3
(Denmark) with my Huawei E220 on Karmic, it seems it can't finalize the
connection.

The network manager sends pin as it should (the color on the diode
changes to indicate that the pin is accepted), it shows that there is a
connection and while connecting the diode changes from blinking to
constant glowing (to indicate it's connected). But here the problem
comes, because the network manager keeps working like connecting, I
don't get a usable connection and it just keeps working. Basically it
looks like it doesn't get the IP and DNS informations as it should.

I have called my provider, and according to them there's nothing changed
in the setup, so it sould work as it always has, and it worked
flawlessly in 9.04 and fine in 8.10.

I've checked the settings in the network manager and they look identical
to 9.04, I've tried deleting the setup and reconfiguring the modem,
without luck.

Don't hesitate to ask if I can do something to provide better debugging
info.

Part from dmesg regarding modem:

[Bug 227292] [NEW] The chosen java doesn't work

2008-05-06 Thread rohdef
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openjdk-6-jre

Ubuntu 8.04

When I use Java-applications such as Eclipse, Azureus etc etc I expect
my programs to work like they do on every other platform I used them on
including former releases of (K)Ubuntu.

What happens is that the programs are buggy, they crash and in some rare
cases some of the functions don't work.

The solution, throw openjdk and icedtea out, and use Sun's working
environment. To be honest I can't see why it can be in anyones favor to
use a buggy environment.

And if some agency from UK, US, Afganistan or whereever you might think

[Bug 434477] [NEW] network-manager: no dns recieved with mobile connectio (Huawei E220)

2009-09-21 Thread rohdef
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

When connecting in Karmic to my broadband connection the DNS
informations isn't received around 70-80% of the times I connect, so I
need to disconnect and reconnect until the info is received. (Confirmed
by /etc/resolv.conf being empty except for a comment by the network
manager)

I don't know if this relates to the same problem, but I also some times
have a problem accessing pages after a while, like it somehow decided to
block all signals. (resolv.conf still has the info and the modem shows
it's connected)

I hope there's information enough to fix it, otherwise please instruct
me on what to do to help debugging.

[Bug 434477] Re: network-manager: no dns recieved with mobile connectio (Huawei E220)

2009-09-22 Thread rohdef
I have a hard time seeing that they don't send it, since it should have
trouble in windows too then.

But it even though it's true I agree the network manager should detect
that it haven't got any DNS info and try to recover.

Problem with that approach might be that some might not need them (for
what reason I don't know or care), but that can easily be solved with a
checkbox option.

Ok, it's updated to be gecko-sharp2, but that package isn't there
either, it would be really nice to get that package added soon.

[Bug 435057] [NEW] Huawei E220 random disconnect and connection loss

2009-09-22 Thread rohdef
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

The E220 behaves very strange at the moment with the network manager.
Besides from the DSN-problem reported in another bug, the connection can
do random disconnects, and even loose the connection while still showing
to be connected. I checked with another wire just to make sure it isn't
a bad connection. I have no idea of what info I can provide that can
help, so please guide me if more is needed :)

Ok I tried searching isn't it only the source that's called gecko-

just as long as I can compile monodevelop from svn.

[Bug 434477] Re: network-manager: no dns recieved with mobile connectio (Huawei E220)

2009-11-04 Thread rohdef
Weird, I can confirm a bit different behavior. I discovered it gives a
different dns ip, if the one from my ISP isn't received (I presume
that's what's happening, since I haven't seen that IP before).

About the rest, yes you should make a new bug on this or rather search
existing bugs. I think I have bugreported behavior like that before, but
I'm not sure, haven't had the time to report much lately. But to me it
seems rather random from different networkmanager/modemmanger versions,
some of them you had to boot it with the modem, some plug the modem in
after boot, and currently I experience that booting with the modem then
rebooting works best.

[Bug 419771] [NEW] Missing symlink/misplaced file in libqyoto4.4-cil

2009-08-27 Thread rohdef
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libqyoto4.4-cil

One of the files needed for Qyoto development is either places in a
wrong place or there's a missing symlink, the relevant file is
libqyotoshared.so which in the package is placed in /usr/lib, but the
Qyoto binding looks for it in /usr/lib/cli/kde-bindings-4.4, the error
can be seen below.

I fixed this on my system with a symlink, I didn't symlink
libqyotoshared.so.1 or libqyotoshared.so.1.0.0 so and it works, so I'm
of the impression they don't need to be linked.

The package I have is the current one from the Karmic repositories.

[Bug 430557] Re: libgecko2.0-cil missing in karmic

2009-10-30 Thread rohdef
I got one, not so good one, but it works. Actually I also got a modified
one that is more appropriate for 9.10.

First one (got one minor problem, described in a moment):
Download the file from the package-system from 9.04, this is found at:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/libs/ and is currently down, so I can't give
the exact link, but you can find it there.

Second option, which I also prefer is:
Use a hacked version of the file. Problem with the one at the repository is
that it forces xulrunner-1.9, but since I like to have support for everything,
such as Moonlight (so I can use homepages with Silverlight), I hacked mine to
force xulrunner-1.9.1 in stead, so everything works :)

My hacked version is for 64-bit systems, and should be downloadable
here: http://www.mediafire.com/?19ym9nn3ydj

[Bug 464828] [NEW] Complaint about VERY bad handling of a bug

2009-10-30 Thread rohdef
Public bug reported:

I would make a VERY strong complaint about the handling of this bug.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gecko-sharp2/+bug/430557

I reported it over a month ago. The most important part of the solution
only requires the inclusion of one file in the repository. I might
hardly need to say that this should a a very small task that should be
doable in a few minutes.

Second part, which I unfortunately didn't see to earlier is that the
dependencies should be fixed is also a minor task which is also doable
in few minutes.

How can a but that is fixed with so little work be allowed to be
ignored?

I would really like to see a "bug fix", so bugs so small and simple get
fixed.

Btw. before anyone says something about the package has been renamed, I
just want to point out that I checked and can't find the new or the old
name, and I have also checked for other names, the package simply isn't

Worked for me to install it, but it's a bit unintuitive to do so.
Couldn't this be moved to a separate package? Seems unlogical to install
