[Bug 113426] No video output when playing avi files in Kubuntu
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mplayer Description: Cannot play Microsoft Windows files with .avi extension in any of the players in Kubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn). Observations: I have installed all non-free and Windows codecs using Automatix2. All the following media players are available in my system: Kaffeine, KMPlayer, Totem, VLC Media player and RealPlayer. I can play the following audio files: ogg, mp3 I can also play DVDs and VCDs with audo and video. Problem: However, when I play .avi files using any of the above players, I get only the sound from the file. I do not see the video output. Possible Causes: All of these players use "mplayer" as the backend program in my Feisty (I guess). So, I guess, it is a problem with my mplayer. I do not know how to reconfigure all these players to use another backend, such as xine. Additional observations: I never faced this issue in Ubuntu Dapper 6.06. After I have moved to Kubuntu Feisty 7.04, I face this problem. It may be that it is a new bug. [Bug 908310] Re: Harddrive Bad Sound on Shutdown
I tested with the latest mainline build v3.2-rc7. The bug still exists and was reproducible 5/5 shutdowns. On the 5th restart the disk checker started up showing an error in '/' and had to be fixed before being able to boot into the system. I have also removed the tag 'needs-upstream-testing' and added 'kernel- bug-exists-upstream' and changed status to 'Confirmed' As a side note after the error in '/' was fixed the system time defaulted and windows 7 on first boot was unstable and needed a couple of reboots to be stable. Hope this helps. Clarification to #4 above. 'similar problems' means after testing the kernel mainline build v3.2-rc7. [Bug 908310] [NEW] Harddrive Bad Sound on Shutdown
Public bug reported: I have a DV6T 6b00 with i7 processor and 750GB 7200rpm hard drive. I am running 3.0.0.12 generic kernel. I have noticed that upon shutdown my harddrive produces a bad noise. I have dual boot with Windows 7 (It doesnt produce the noise => problem with ubuntu). I installed both the i386 version and amd64 version on my drive and both produce the noise upon shutdown (not restart). I have read multiple threads where this problem was due to SATA drives and that this problem was fixed in 2.6. kernels. I also tried creating S00hdd-shutdown-workaround fix. It doesnt work. [Apologies that i couldn't point out in this bug report all the threads that i read to come to this stage] Hence this bug probably is new because of some new hardware? Seek your help as i am not able to do clean shutdown due to fear that harddrive would go bust on this new system. Hence the workaround i use is reboot into windows 7 and do a clean shutdown. Appreciate your inputs or help with this regards. [Bug 338982] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV during MAPI authentication
I am as annoyed about this as anybody else; this is the *single* feature that I cared about in Jaunty and in fact I upgraded my main desktop from Intrepid to Jaunty as soon as Evolution 2.26 was "released" just for this functionality. That having been said, it seems more appropriate to direct our frustration at upstream. Ubuntu hasn't invested in evolution or evolution-mapi at all and they're just taking what GNOME claims to be giving them; the evolution team meanwhile should be raked over the coals for claiming this thing works when it's little more than a cruelly painful joke right now. That having been said, if you guys are going to drop it from Jaunty, you should do so explicitly rather than letting users find out for themselves that it doesn't actually work. Right now there's all kinds of nice fluffy press coverage about how evolution-mapi lets Linux users talk to Exchange; this cookie cuttery copy is all clearly written by people who don't even use Exchange (and probably don't even use Linux), and who clearly have not tried out the feature before touting its availability. -- evolution crashed with SIGSEGV during MAPI authentication https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338982 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 67059] Re: X does not resume after opening laptop
I can confirm this on my Thinkpad T40 on ubuntu edgy. This problem was not present in edgy knot 3, or in ubuntu dapper. I must also go to a console and back to X to return the display. This behaviour only occurs when I close the lid on the laptop. It does not happen when suspending to ram or to disk, nor does it happen when gnome-power-manager blanks the screen after inactivity. However, last I checked, if I hibernate and bring the computer back, and close the lid again, the behavior no longer occurs (however it is annoying to have to do that to make it work). [Bug 151168] Re: Memory leak in nvidia-glx-new's GL_EXT_texture_from_pixmap
Matt, I fail to see how this is strictly NVIDIA's fault. Many of the people who have commented on this bug (including myself) had working Compiz setups in Feisty, and they have now regressed to an unusable state in Gutsy. I was running the exact same NVIDIA driver (100.14.19) in Feisty as I am in Gutsy. Compiz worked in Feisty, Compiz blows in Gutsy. To me, that's a regression on the Ubuntu/Compiz side. The black window bug had a workaround: compiz --use-copy. [Bug 151168] Re: Memory leak in nvidia-glx-new's GL_EXT_texture_from_pixmap
Does the Xgl X server *still* not support XKB? That was a blocker for me in the past (plus a source of frustration - why the heck would you want XKB in your regular X server but not Xgl?!). I believe nvidia-glx-new *is* required for some cards, including (I believe) my NVS 285 Quadro. I tried nvidia-glx instead but the stupid lrm-video script wouldn't let the module actually load and refused to tell me what was going on; I didn't bother to track it down. [Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards
This happens for me all the time with the Gutsy RC: screen freezes up *except* the mouse cursor, and the machine is still alive but I have to power-cycle it. I have the same hardware as MikeMLP: T42, Mobility 9600 (M10). I'm running the stock Gutsy configuration, and free/oss ati/radeon driver, with all desktop effects enabled. I should also add that the amount of memory leaked appears to be (somewhat unsurprisingly) proportional to the size of the window. [Bug 151168] Re: memory leak with ring
Is it possible to change the title of this bug? Something like "compiz leaks memory with NVIDIA proprietary driver" (or similar)? I just filed a new bug about compiz leaking memory and I ignored this one because the title said it only affected the Ring plugin which I never use. On my machine, it's *really* bad. I see resident memory usage increase by ~3MB each time I open a window. *Sigh*. So I can't run Compiz on my work machine, because it leaks memory like crazy with NVIDIA cards. And I can't run it at home, because it locks up my laptop with an ATI Mobility 9600. Are Intel cards the only ones that can actually run this damn thing? Public bug reported: Binary package hint: acpi-support Im having a problem when opening the lid in a freshly installed Ubuntu Feisty Herd 4, updated as of Feb 16 on my IBM Thinkpad T40. I have gnome-power-manager set to blank the screen upon closing the lid. When I open the lid, the screen is on, however nothing shows up on the screen. I have to use Ctrl-Alt-F1 and then Ctrl-Alt-F7 to get my display back. I have seen a few bug reports similar to this, like Bug #83320, however there is one thing occuring for me that I have not seen on other bug reports yet. If I hibernate or suspend to ram, I no longer have to use Ctrl-Alt-F1 and Ctrl-Alt-F7 when I close and open the lid to get my display back. It seems to come back without me doing anything at all. This only lasts until the next reboot, and I have the same problem again. I will attach the logs of lspci -vv, lspci -vvn, dmidecode, and lshal -m as stated in the other bug reports. I will also attach dmesg and Xorg.0.log before I suspended to ram, and afterwards (note: there is no kernel log activity after I suspended to ram and tried closing and opening the lid). Judging from the logs, it seems like Xorg has more activity before I suspended to ram than after when I close and open the lid.
