[Bug 113426] No video output when playing avi files in Kubuntu

2007-05-08 Thread Ramesh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mplayer

Description:

Cannot play Microsoft Windows files with .avi extension in any of the
players in Kubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn).

Observations:

I have installed all non-free and Windows codecs using Automatix2. All
the following media players are available in my system: Kaffeine,
KMPlayer, Totem, VLC Media player and RealPlayer.

I can play the following audio files: ogg, mp3

I can also play DVDs and VCDs with audo and video.

Problem:

However, when I play .avi files using any of the above players, I get
only the sound from the file. I do not see the video output.

Possible Causes:

All of these players use "mplayer" as the backend program in my Feisty
(I guess). So, I guess, it is a problem with my mplayer. I do not know
how to reconfigure all these players to use another backend, such as
xine.

Additional observations:

I never faced this issue in Ubuntu Dapper 6.06. After I have moved to
Kubuntu Feisty 7.04, I face this problem. It may be that it is a new
bug.

Kernel version (uname -a):

Linux lramesh-laptop 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Sun Apr 15 07:36:31 UTC
2007 i686 GNU/Linux

** Affects: mplayer (Ubuntu)

thanks, it works perfect.
But it consumes 156MB of HD space where normal Kopete takes only 20MB.
libmsn 0.2 is for MSN, right?
Is it a mandatory component for GTalk Audio to work?

[Bug 279102] Re: Unreliable network connection with B44 driver

2009-09-24 Thread ramesh
Facing similar problem: Dell Dimension C521, Ubuntu 9.04 64bit, Fresh
Install.

Linux DELLC521 2.6.28-15-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 18 19:25:34 UTC 2009
x86_64 GNU/Linux
04:07.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX (rev 02)
00:05.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation C51 [GeForce 6150 LE]
(rev a2)

Happens only during heavy file transfer && (( moving windows ) || (
scrolling in Firefox ))

Transfering large iso files across using scp. scp reports "stalled" but
continues. No md5sum errors detected in the transfered files!

"Cool and Quite" (suggested above) did not help.

"Sleep and Wakeup" (suggested above) did not help. The computer never
woke-up.

"Turning off Compiz" (suggested above) seems to help. Unable to
reproduce behavior after this.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 908310] Re: Harddrive Bad Sound on Shutdown

2012-01-05 Thread Ramesh
I tested with the latest mainline build v3.2-rc7. The bug still exists
and was reproducible 5/5 shutdowns. On the 5th restart the disk checker
started up showing an error in '/' and had to be fixed before being able
to boot into the system.

I have also removed the tag 'needs-upstream-testing' and added 'kernel-
bug-exists-upstream' and changed status to 'Confirmed'

As a side note after the error in '/' was fixed the system time
defaulted and windows 7 on first boot was unstable and needed a couple
of reboots to be stable.

Hope this helps.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 908310] Re: Harddrive Bad Sound on Shutdown

2012-01-07 Thread Ramesh
Clarification to #4 above. 'similar problems' means after testing the
kernel mainline build v3.2-rc7.

NOTE: All the points noted below are unrelated to my original bug.

1. my clock in bios is messed up (sometimes it defaults to 2010 and sometimes
2018 )
2. my clock in windows7/ ubuntu runs either fast or slow or resets!!!.

[Bug 908310] [NEW] Harddrive Bad Sound on Shutdown

2011-12-23 Thread Ramesh
Public bug reported:

I have a DV6T 6b00 with i7 processor and 750GB 7200rpm hard drive. I am
running 3.0.0.12 generic kernel. I have noticed that upon shutdown my
harddrive produces a bad noise. I have dual boot with Windows 7 (It
doesnt produce the noise => problem with ubuntu).

I installed both the i386 version and amd64 version on my drive and both
produce the noise upon shutdown (not restart).

I have read multiple threads where this problem was due to SATA drives
and that this problem was fixed in 2.6. kernels. I also tried
creating S00hdd-shutdown-workaround fix. It doesnt work. [Apologies that
i couldn't point out in this bug report all the threads that i read to
come to this stage]

Hence this bug probably is new because of some new hardware?

Seek your help as i am not able to do clean shutdown due to fear that
harddrive would go bust on this new system. Hence the workaround i use
is reboot into windows 7 and do a clean shutdown.

Appreciate your inputs or help with this regards.

[Bug 652497] Re: NFS share mounting problem

2011-03-07 Thread Ramesh
Been having the same issue but proto=udp did not work for me. My server
is running a uclibc compiled unfs3. No issues with ubuntu version of
unfs3. On a whim, I tried to install a natty nfs-common package
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/amd64/nfs-common/download) using dpkg.
Got an error: "nfs-common depends on portmap (>= 6.0.0-2ubuntu3)", but
interestingly, mounting nfs now works! Version of nfs-common installed
is now 1:1.2.2-4ubuntu4.

[Bug 28479] Re: firefox32 for amd64 => support 32-bit plugins on amd64

2008-07-31 Thread Ramesh Dharan
Agreed with Mahdi, icedtea simply doesn't cut it for Java, and
nspluginwrapper is unfortunately still quite broken in Hardy. It stops
working after about 10 minutes, or anytime you have multiple tabs open
using Flash simultaneously.

Just take a look at how many views and questions there are on the forums
from people trying to do the chroot thing (which sucks too - I lived
that way for about a year and it was awful).

Please don't tell us that the plugin simply "works well", when what you
really mean is that it works well for you in a five minute sniff test.

[Bug 338982] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV during MAPI authentication

2009-04-14 Thread Ramesh Dharan
I am as annoyed about this as anybody else; this is the *single* feature
that I cared about in Jaunty and in fact I upgraded my main desktop
from Intrepid to Jaunty as soon as Evolution 2.26 was "released" just
for this functionality.

That having been said, it seems more appropriate to direct our
frustration at upstream. Ubuntu hasn't invested in evolution or
evolution-mapi at all and they're just taking what GNOME claims to be
giving them; the evolution team meanwhile should be raked over the coals
for claiming this thing works when it's little more than a cruelly
painful joke right now.

That having been said, if you guys are going to drop it from Jaunty, you
should do so explicitly rather than letting users find out for
themselves that it doesn't actually work. Right now there's all kinds of
nice fluffy press coverage about how evolution-mapi lets Linux users
talk to Exchange; this cookie cuttery copy is all clearly written by
people who don't even use Exchange (and probably don't even use Linux),
and who clearly have not tried out the feature before touting its
availability.

[Bug 67059] Re: X does not resume after opening laptop

2006-11-10 Thread Ramesh Krishna
I can confirm this on my Thinkpad T40 on ubuntu edgy. This problem was
not present in edgy knot 3, or in ubuntu dapper. I must also go to a
console and back to X to return the display. This behaviour only occurs
when I close the lid on the laptop. It does not happen when suspending
to ram or to disk, nor does it happen when gnome-power-manager blanks
the screen after inactivity. However, last I checked, if I hibernate and
bring the computer back, and close the lid again, the behavior no longer
occurs (however it is annoying to have to do that to make it work). Is
there any way to have ubuntu switch to a console and back to X
automatically when the lid is opened?

[Bug 151168] Re: Memory leak in nvidia-glx-new's GL_EXT_texture_from_pixmap

2007-10-25 Thread Ramesh Dharan
Matt, I fail to see how this is strictly NVIDIA's fault. Many of the
people who have commented on this bug (including myself) had working
Compiz setups in Feisty, and they have now regressed to an unusable
state in Gutsy.

I was running the exact same NVIDIA driver (100.14.19) in Feisty as I am
in Gutsy. Compiz worked in Feisty, Compiz blows in Gutsy. To me, that's
a regression on the Ubuntu/Compiz side.

The black window bug had a workaround: compiz --use-copy. Though people
didn't seem to be aware of it.

Does the Xgl X server *still* not support XKB? That was a blocker for me
in the past (plus a source of frustration - why the heck would you want
XKB in your regular X server but not Xgl?!).

I believe nvidia-glx-new *is* required for some cards, including (I
believe) my NVS 285 Quadro. I tried nvidia-glx instead but the stupid
lrm-video script wouldn't let the module actually load and refused to
tell me what was going on; I didn't bother to track it down. I'll give
it a shot again.

[Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards

2007-10-15 Thread Ramesh Dharan
This happens for me all the time with the Gutsy RC: screen freezes up
*except* the mouse cursor, and the machine is still alive but I have to
power-cycle it.

I have the same hardware as MikeMLP: T42, Mobility 9600 (M10). I'm
running the stock Gutsy configuration, and free/oss ati/radeon driver,
with all desktop effects enabled.

I experience the hang quite regularly with both the stock 2.6.22-14
kernel as well as my hand-built 2.6.23.1. I'm happy to run any tests or
provide logs or whatever else is needed if it will help resolve this
problem.

2007-10-15 Thread Ramesh Dharan
I very much doubt the AGP aperture has anything to do with it. FWIW, my
AGP aperture has been at 256MB the whole time.

The crashes seem to be entirely unpredictable in nature. Several of the
times it has happened, I have only had one window open, with no wobbling
or cube transitions or anything else crazy going on - e.g. I was just
clicking on an OK button, and it would freeze

[Bug 151168] Re: memory leak with ring

2007-10-18 Thread Ramesh Dharan
I should also add that the amount of memory leaked appears to be
(somewhat unsurprisingly) proportional to the size of the window.

That is to say, if I open and close a new firefox window, I see compiz
resident memory jump by ~10MB. With a smaller terminal window, it's ~3MB
as noted before.

[Bug 151168] Re: memory leak with ring

2007-10-18 Thread Ramesh Dharan
Is it possible to change the title of this bug? Something like "compiz
leaks memory with NVIDIA proprietary driver" (or similar)?

I just filed a new bug about compiz leaking memory and I ignored this
one because the title said it only affected the Ring plugin which I
never use.

On my machine, it's *really* bad. I see resident memory usage increase
by ~3MB each time I open a window.

*Sigh*. So I can't run Compiz on my work machine, because it leaks
memory like crazy with NVIDIA cards. And I can't run it at home, because
it locks up my laptop with an ATI Mobility 9600. Are Intel cards the
only ones that can actually run this damn thing? What gives?

[Bug 154210] Massive memory leak in compiz

2007-10-18 Thread Ramesh Dharan
Public bug reported:

I'm running the Gutsy release bits, with the NVIDIA 100.14.19
closed/proprietary driver and compiz enabled with full desktop effects.

Compiz is leaking 3MB of memory every time I open and close a window.
That is to say, I can see resident memory usage in 'top' (not just
virtual address space) increasing steadily, and every time I open and
close a terminal window I see it jump by 3MB.

I just had to power-cycle my system because compiz.real was using 1.7GB
of resident memory, and it locked up the machine when I tried killing
it.

[Bug 85622] On lid open, screen remains blank on Thinkpad T40

2007-02-16 Thread Ramesh Krishna
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi-support

Im having a problem when opening the lid in a freshly installed Ubuntu
Feisty Herd 4, updated as of Feb 16 on my IBM Thinkpad T40. I have
gnome-power-manager set to blank the screen upon closing the lid. When I
open the lid, the screen is on, however nothing shows up on the screen.
I have to use Ctrl-Alt-F1 and then Ctrl-Alt-F7 to get my display back. I
have seen a few bug reports similar to this, like Bug #83320, however
there is one thing occuring for me that I have not seen on other bug
reports yet. If I hibernate or suspend to ram, I no longer have to use
Ctrl-Alt-F1 and Ctrl-Alt-F7 when I close and open the lid to get my
display back. It seems to come back without me doing anything at all.
This only lasts until the next reboot, and I have the same problem
again.

I will attach the logs of lspci -vv, lspci -vvn, dmidecode, and lshal -m
as stated in the other bug reports. I will also attach dmesg and
Xorg.0.log before I suspended to ram, and afterwards (note: there is no
kernel log activity after I suspended to ram and tried closing and
opening the lid). Judging from the logs, it seems like Xorg has more
activity before I suspended to ram than after when I close and open the
lid. Let me know if you require any other logs or information, and I
will be happy to provide them.

Please mark it un-fixed, baeza is right, this is not the fix, but the
other way to connect to exchange server but this is not much reliable
though my system freezes when i use Exchange-Mapi method. And secondly u
cant use Exchange-Mapi when your exchange server is on different network
or not on internet, or alternatively say, if i want to connect my
exchange via internet through OWA i cant do that by Exchnage-MAPI.

Please consider this..

2010-05-20 Thread Ramesh Kumar
I have tried, but no gain. I have even removed it... but still the condition
remains the same. /usr/share/gconf/schemas/virt-manager.schemas this file is
empty..

2010-05-20 Thread Ramesh Kumar
If u have the virt-manager package installed, then remove it with --purge
option then reinstall it apt-get install virt-manager. I have done this, and
it resolved most of my problems. But still facing lots of issues like my
Dell-Latitude-E5500 Laptop does not shutdown properly after upgrade, it just
hags on "rc init process killed with PID --- " something like that..
