I can confirm this on my Thinkpad T40 on ubuntu edgy. This problem was not present in edgy knot 3, or in ubuntu dapper. I must also go to a console and back to X to return the display. This behaviour only occurs when I close the lid on the laptop. It does not happen when suspending to ram or to disk, nor does it happen when gnome-power-manager blanks the screen after inactivity. However, last I checked, if I hibernate and bring the computer back, and close the lid again, the behavior no longer occurs (however it is annoying to have to do that to make it work). Is there any way to have ubuntu switch to a console and back to X automatically when the lid is opened?
