[Bug 150989] Re: Wrong resolution for HD widescreen in Gutsy with nvidia
I have a similar problem with a Samsung widescreen LCD. I also have an Nvidia video driver - I think that is the common problem. If I disable the restricted driver - a pain at 600x600, for sure - I have to reboot, and then it tries to set up 1680x1050. It almost works (shifted left, and wrong size), but the nv driver has some problems with non-vesa modes (I think) - so I set my resolution to 1600x1200 or 1600x1024. It's fuzzy, of course, but usable... I, too, have used the restricted manager to set up the nvidia driver under 7.04 -- Wrong resolution for HD widescreen in Gutsy with nvidia https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150989 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 156073] Disabling gdm-login kills X instantly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: system-services Using systemAdmin/services, if you disable gdm, the X-server is killed instantly, and you drop back to a console prompt. Also if you have logged in from the console prompt -- since you disabled gdm -- and then do a startx - because you want to test your fix...and it works, so you want to re-enable gdm... then services tries to start a new X right away It would be better in both cases to just change the init links, letting the change happen on the next boot ** Affects: upstart (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Disabling gdm-login kills X instantly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156073 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 156073] Re: Disabling gdm-login kills X instantly - Wishlist
Thanks, Scott, that looks like the right package. Also, I'd say that wishlist might be the proper priority. It's not really vital, just nicer behaviour. [Bug 150989] Re: Wrong resolution for HD widescreen in Gutsy with nvidia
Digging through _all_ the xorg logs, I found one where it had tried to start the nvidia-glx-new driver... It failed because the nvidia-kernel module wasn't loaded. I'm not sure who should have set that up when I enabled the driver, and I don't know how to force it after I enable the driver and before I restart the system... I'm happy to help sort this out, I just don't know what else I can do... -- Wrong resolution for HD widescreen in Gutsy with nvidia https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150989 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Mine is connected through the analog VGA connector :-( the only one this MB has. That does seem to make a difference to the code, doesn't it.
