[Bug 515904] [NEW] popfile_1.1.1.orig.tar.gz contains Debian changes

2010-02-02 Thread phobie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: popfile

The uploaded popfile_1.1.1.orig.tar.gz has been modified!
Additionally to the files from the upstream popfile-1.1.1.zip it contains all
files from the popfile_1.1.1-0ubuntu1.diff.gz:
debian/
debian_wrappers/
Makefile

Please upload a fixed upstream tarball!

BTW.
It might be useful to strip out windows newlines with repacksrc.sh and name it
popfile_1.1.1+dfsg.orig.tar.gz

for curfile in `find $TMPDIR -type f -regex ".*\.p[lm]"`; do

about build regression, security issues and other problems. As other
players such as xine and mplayer do also support it's formats,

[Bug 539440] Re: gtkwidget.c:5636: widget not within a GtkWindow

2010-12-04 Thread phobie
I can confirm this bug on maverick and found a way to reproduce it.

It only occurs with fglrx and not with ati as graphics driver. (Radeon Mobility
5650)
It only occurs on gnome and not on kde.

After fglrx 2:8.780-0ubuntu2 I tried 8.780 from ati.com with the similar
results.

How to reproduce:
Install and start the qt-designer
$ sudo apt-get install qt4-designer
$ designer-qt4
Open a QWidget window: File -> new -> Widget -> new
Add a QTabWidget
Select the QWidget and chose a layout (i.e. QVBoxLayout)
Click and hold the lower right corner of the QWidget Form and increase the
window size.
Gnome/X crashes and shows the gdm-greeter.

It seems every Qt/KDE-application containing a big, resizeable tab-widget can
cause a Gnome crash on my notebook.
For now Gnome is unusable for me and I have to use KDE...

[Bug 1281286] [NEW] ruby-arel >= 4 breaks ruby-activerecord-3.2

2014-02-17 Thread phobie
Public bug reported:

This bug results into a non-working "/usr/bin/rails"!

The package of ruby-activerecord-3.2 claims to depend on ruby-arel ">= 3.0.2~"
but the ruby source states "~> 3.0.2"
which means ">=3.0.2 <<4" in Debian syntax!
See
/usr/share/rubygems-integration/*/specifications/activerecord-3.2.13.gemspec !
Since saucy ruby-arel 4.0 is in Ubuntu but this version is only supported in
rails 4.0.

The best solution might be to offer a new (old) ruby-arel-3.0 package in
parralel on saucy and trusty.
For trusty it might be a good idea to upgrade to rails 4
(ruby-activerecord-4.0).

If that is not possible before the release we need to downgrade ruby-
arel to 3.0!

As a workaround I installed ruby-arel 3.0.2-3 from raring.

[Bug 1281300] [NEW] missing dependencies or recommends for default environment

2014-02-17 Thread phobie
Public bug reported:

ruby-railties-3.2 which contains /usr/bin/rails should depend on or at
least recommend packages needed in a default environment!

Most users will use the "rails new /somepath" command, but this command
depends on several packages which does not get installed automatically:
bundler ruby-rails-3.2 ruby-jquery-rails ruby-coffee-rails ruby-sqlite3
ruby-sass-rails ruby-uglifier

If "rails" is executed in the newly created workspace the following
packages are needed: bundler ruby-coffee-script-source ruby-execjs ruby-
coffee-script ruby-coffee-rails ruby-jquery-rails ruby-rails-3.2 ruby-
sass ruby-sass-rails ruby-sqlite3 ruby-uglifier

Since ruby-activerecord-3.2 seems to have a missing dependency on ruby-sqlite3
we might not need to list it here.
See
/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/active_record/connection_adapters/sqlite3_adapter.rb

Where to find the dependencies:
- ruby-jquery-rails
  used by template
/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/rails/generators/rails/plugin_new/templates/Gemfile
- ruby-rails-3.2, ruby-journey, ruby-sass-rails, ruby-coffee-rails and

  used by templates:

/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/rails/generators/rails/plugin_new/templates/Rakefile

/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/rails/generators/rails/app/templates/config/boot.rb

How to replicate:
remove ruby*
install ruby-railties-3.2
execute "rails new /tmp/test1"
cd /tmp/test1
execute "rails server"
rm -rf /tmp/test1

[Bug 102436] Re: feisty: console setup hangs without splash

2013-02-13 Thread phobie
I have the same problem on precise, but I have to press CTRL+c to continue
booting!
vt-is-UTF8 calls is_in_UTF8_mode from testUTF8.c.
In this function a fscanf tries to read from the tty and this read might block.
I set the mode of the tty to NONBLOCK and this fixes the issue form me.
This might result into problems detecting the encoding, but at least it does
not freeze.

[Bug 862302] [NEW] Quickly fails if gedit is not installed

2011-09-29 Thread phobie
Public bug reported:

$ quickly edit
crashes if gedit is not installed.

This problem can be replicated with 11.04-0ubuntu1.1 on natty and
11.10-0ubuntu1 on oneiric.
It is not a duplicate of #483917 because there is no dependency problem.

$ EDITOR=gnome-text-editor quickly edit
works without problems if kate is installed...

quickly edit should chose a alternate editor if gedit is not present,
use /etc/alternatives/gnome-text-editor instead of gedit or
the package needs to depend on gedit directly instead of "gedit | editor".

It might also be a good idea to introduce /etc/alternatives/x-editor or
/etc/alternatives/x-text-editor .

[Bug 862302] Re: Quickly fails if gedit is not installed

2011-09-29 Thread phobie

11.10-0ubuntu1 on oneiric.
- It is not a duplicate of #483917 because there is no dependency problem.

- use /etc/alternatives/gnome-text-editor instead of gedit or

[Bug 1069549] Re: package linux-image-3.5.0-17-generic (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess neues pre-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 1 zurück

2012-10-22 Thread phobie
"This kernel does not support a non-PAE CPU."
Ubuntu dropped support for non-PAE CPUs with 12.10.
They suggest to use 12.04 on such hardware.
It is possible to use a 12.04 kernel on a 12.10 system or to compile your own
kernel without PEA support.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EnablingPAE

IMHO a better solution would have been to add a new linux-generic-nonpae
package to the main repository.
Now someone needs to set up a PPA...

On my very old Pentium-III-500MHz PAE is supported, but on my much newer
Pentium-M-1.8GHz it is not!

The code of the exception is not part of upstream 3.x.
So we could mark it as fixed upstream.
Though with the latest version of luma it is impossible to add any new item
because of problems with the templates.

[Bug 346850] Re: /var/log/cherokee/cherokee.access Not created during deb installation

2012-06-06 Thread phobie
I ran into the same problem because I use tmpfs for /var/log and
/usr/sbin/cherokee fails if one of the log-dirs does not exist.

[06/06/2012 18:00:00.123] (error) logger_writer.c:304 - Could not open
'/var/log/cherokee/cherokee.error' for appending | This is probably related
to the file permissions. Please make sure that it is writable for the user
under which Cherokee is run.

IMHO the correct solution would be that the cherokee binary checks for
logdir existance and tries to create missing ones.

As a workaround I inserted
'''if [ ! -d /var/log/cherokee ]; then mkdir /var/log/cherokee; fi'''
into line 31 of /etc/init.d/cherokee
(Just before the "start-stop-daemon --start" call)
This is only a hack because custom log-paths can be configured in
/etc/cherokee/cherokee.conf !

[Bug 390235] Re: thunderbird does not use the init.d directory in .mozilla-thunderbird

2012-11-12 Thread phobie
A solution to the initial problem:

mkdir -p ~/bin
vim ~/bin/thunderbird

'''#!/bin/bash
echo "executing $0 with: $@"
LC_TIME=nl_NL.utf8 /usr/bin/thunderbird $@
'''

Restart your shell.
Done!

Your ~/.profile will include ~/bin/ in $PATH and your system will prefer
the new thunderbird executable over the one in /usr/bin/.

If not add the following to your ~/.profile
'''# set PATH so it includes user's private bin if it exists
if [ -d "$HOME/bin" ] ; then
PATH="$HOME/bin:$PATH"
fi'''
