[Bug 267376] Re: [intrepid] Package OpenOffice.org 3.0 for Backports
I wanted to add that my father updated to openoffice.org - 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 today on his kubuntu machine through Adept and is now stuck with the same crash document recovery loop as discussed here. Whether choosing to go with the "Untitled" document recovery or not results in a crash. It is there on the next start and the process continues. I have tried to diagnose over the phone with him, removing the openoffice.org-kde package results in openoffice working but the interface becomes difficult to use. I had him try closing OOo with the OOo-kde integration removed so that it would close cleanly, then reinstall it and re-open it. It immediately starts with the document recovery even though it was closed cleanly. Is there anyway to downgrade to 3.0.0-4/2 or whatever version was previous to -6 which is stuck in this crash loop ? Or are there any recommendations other than removing the kde integration? (His machine is amd64/kubuntu 8.10) Cheers, orGSD -- [intrepid] Package OpenOffice.org 3.0 for Backports https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/267376 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 267376] Re: [intrepid] Package OpenOffice.org 3.0 for Backports
For what it is worth, my wife and mother, who also are using kubuntu 8.10, have 3.0.0-2 from your ppa and it is working brilliantly. I have instructed both to not upgrade at the moment. I suspect that is also the version that was on my father's machine before his upgrade and consequent crashes. I don't know if that helps narrow down what was introduced between 3.0.0-2 and 3.0.0-6 which has introduced crashing under KDE4. I apologize for all of these third party accounts, but I am the odd one out in the family. While my wife and folks run kubuntu, I run gentoo. Thus my experience is somewhat limited. I looked on my wife's laptop and didn't see anyway in synaptic to downgrade to a previous version to walk my father through downgrading from 3.0.0-6 to something which worked. I appreciate your looking into this! [Bug 776999] Re: [Lenovo W520] laptop freezes on ACPI-related actions
I will add that unsurprisingly these problems exist with the dock as well. I have through trial and error been unable to find a good stable solution with 64bit whether integrated or discrete graphics used. I am going to try the bios update before taking more drastic measures. The ACPI ones echoed those of this bug, however with integrated graphics I have had some more difficult to diagnose problems recently as well. I will also add that while googling around for solutions, it seems there are some Windows issues as well: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W520-BIOS-1-25-doesn-t-fix-resume-from-sleep-with-16GB-of-RAM/td-p/444921 My machine does have 16GB of RAM so that may be interesting to investigate. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776999 Title: [Lenovo W520] laptop freezes on ACPI-related actions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/776999/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 776999] Re: [Lenovo W520] laptop freezes on ACPI-related actions
I have found a solution to brightness changing if you have gone the 32bit route to solve the issues in this bug report. In Kubuntu 11.04 32-bit, change to a virtual console, ie: alt+ctrl+F1, change brightness with Fn+brightness to the desired level, then alt+ctrl+F7 to get back to X and the level should be retained. This isn't the most elegant but it is repeatable for my machine. Also for what it is worth, it seems that other distros are not having these problems. I have read reports of very happy slackware and Gentoo users running 64bit gnome and KDE on the w520 with Discrete graphics. I simply haven't had the chance to mess with trying something else yet.
[Bug 576352] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 hangs/locks up often
I just purchased one of these laptops and found this bug report prior to install. Seeing as there has been little activity I thought I would try 10.10 Maverick Alpha 3 to see if by chance in the months since it has been opened, something silently got fixed. Unfortunately the laptop is not usable. With a fresh install of 10.10 Maverick Alpha 3, it freezes randomly and often. This happens with the Nouveau driver (I have not tried the nVidia driver yet) with and without Desktop Effects enabled in KDE. I am running 64bit, and the only non stock thing configuration wise on the laptop is 12GB of RAM. When the machine freezes/hangs/locks up it is the same as the op. Keyboard is 100% unresponsive, no caps lock, mouse movement does continue however. Only solution is a holding down the power button. So the bug is still present and makes this rather nice machine a complete paperweight, at least with (K)ubuntu. I am sympathetic towards the op and dread the thought of having to downgrade to make it run. I am happy to run tests or provide any information that could be useful for anyone interested in helping resolve this bug. Heck I would even be happy to bounty this if it helped! -- Ubuntu 10.04 hangs/locks up often https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/576352 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 576352] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 hangs/locks up often
Thanks FD! A couple of quick questions to see if I can replicate your success under 10.10. Are you using the nVidia driver instead, or are you using the "somehow leftover" nouveau module resulting from after xserver-xorg-video-nouveau removal? Are you successfully running stable after the removal of that package under 10.04 or newer or is this still after your downgrade? Thank you for all your help, I now have a glimmer of hope that I may be able to finally migrate to my new machine! -- Ubuntu 10.04 hangs/locks up often https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/576352 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
