[Bug 262319] [NEW] [Intrepid] Macbook (Pro) Keyboard Layout screwed up

2008-08-28 Thread old_toby
Public bug reported:

On Macbook Pro:

In Hardy, I had the 3rd level chooser on the second key to the right of the
space key (sorry, I don't know the name of it).
In Intrepid Alpha 4 (LiveCD) it is on the arrow-up key, and the right mouse
button is on the arrow-down key, which leaves me with no arrow keys (and
logically without page up/down).

Also, Numlock doesn't work anymore.

I just got the same bug again, but /var/log/cups/error_log is empty (on

Running "sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart" on the server always helps,
but it's annoying.

[Bug 276087] [NEW] amule crashes without report

2008-09-29 Thread old_toby
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amule

On my Hardy Server amule very often (sometimes every some hours, other
times just second after the start) just crashes, but there is never a
crash report - it just quits. But it doesn't really quit, it just stops
running, as if it's just killed.

I had the original hardy version first, now I updated to the binary from
intrepid, but the problem remains.

Unfortunately I have no idea where to find any hints about where the
problem could be, I didn't find any message in any logfile. I hope
someone has an idea where to look for...

[Bug 249852] [NEW] search-as-you-type doesn't always work

Public bug reported:

When I open nautilus and want to use search-as-you-type, sometimes
nothing happens at all, sometimes it works, but it seems very arbitrary.

[Bug 249852] Re: search-as-you-type doesn't always work

2008-07-18 Thread old_toby
ok, I found out something.

Bug is in Hardy Heron with all updates.

How to reproduce:

1. open nautilus (just after the system started or after you haven't used it
for some time, maybe half an hour)
2. type some letters

Expected behaviour:
The typed letters should show up at the bottom right of the nautilus window,
and the first folder/file that starts with the typed letters should be
highlighted.

Actual behaviour:
nothing happens

I just found out that it works if you klick in the address bar and press
enter. It also works then the following times you open nautilus. But if
you don't use nautilus for some time, it stops working again.

[Bug 349437] Re: System policy prevents stopping the system when other users are logged in

2009-03-27 Thread old_toby
Yes, I never had the bug in intrepid, and I hope it won't even be in
jaunty's final release.

Here is the log:

Session1:
unix-user = '1000'
realname = 'Simon Scheiwiller,,,'
seat = 'Seat1'
session-type = ''
active = TRUE
x11-display = ':0'
x11-display-device = '/dev/tty7'
display-device = ''
remote-host-name = ''
is-local = TRUE
on-since = '2009-03-27T09:46:18.998906Z'
login-session-id = ''

When I ran ck-list-sessions the first time (without logging) there was
another session for cron, and after the cron job was finished the bug
didn't appear. So it's probably cron-related.

[Bug 217683] [NEW] after rotating the desktop cube, it doesn't zoom in properly

2008-04-15 Thread old_toby
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

How to reproduce
1. enable "Desktop cube" and "Rotate cube"
2. set some zoom in the "Rotate cube" settings
3. change desk, either with ctrl+alt+mouse or ctrl+alt+left/right

Expected:
it zooms back totally

Bug:
the last steps of zooming in is very slow, sometimes it stops totally and can
only be helped with some mouse clicks, sometimes it moves forward one step
every about 3 seconds. (see screenshot)

[Bug 214591] Re: Hardy Beta: Unable to create new groups

2008-04-09 Thread old_toby
Confirming.

Some more details about this strange behaviour:
When I add the new group it shows GID 1001. The empty group entry has GID 1002.
If I then try to add one more group it will give it once more GID 1002 (which
ends up with GID 1003, of course)
Further, if I go back and try to add a user, it crashes. I'll add some more
information after.

[Bug 205144] Re: users-admin cannot add groups in hardy beta

2008-04-10 Thread old_toby
Here too, empty groups are added. What is even more interesting: When
you add a group, it proposes you GID 1001. When you then click ok and
check the properties of the new non-named group, it has GID 1002. When
you add another group, it tries to give GID 1002 and ends up with 1003
and so on.

But it doesn't freeze, I can just close users-admin and when I start it
again I can play the same game from square 1.

[Bug 208715] Re: nautilus-share: share can not have the same name as a user

2008-03-31 Thread old_toby
So actually we have two issues now:

1. AFAIK there is no GUI which can export the home directories
automatically (you have to do it in /etc/samba/smb.conf). With something
like that my problem would be gone. And also I think there's no
application to see a list of all the shared folders (except in
smb.conf). Would that be possible with nautilus-share? Or what package
would be the right one to assign such a bug to?

2. The error message "'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare
add: share name blabliblabla is already a valid system user name" looks
ugly. It could be changed to something more lisible like "There is
already a system user called blabliblabla. Usershares can't have the
same name as system users." If issue no. 1 is solved you could even add
"Home folders can be shared with system->shared folders" or similar.

I could also work on the second one (the first one is still a bit too
high for me).

[Bug 209770] [NEW] too complicated error message in nautilus-share

2008-03-31 Thread old_toby
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-share

In Hardy Beta (nautilus-share 0.7.2)

1. in nautilus, right-click on your home folder (which normally has the same
name as the user)

4. click "create share"

error message:
'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: share name simon is

[Bug 204613] Re: openoffice.org-l10n-en-us (1072)

I see. Yesterday i searched synaptic for "openoffice.org-l10" in

see it as well. But as you said it conflicts with other packages, namely
all language-support-* packages, all of OOo, all mozilla-firefox-

is broken, and not language-selector.

After upgrading from gutsy to hardy beta, my shared folders aren't
shared anymore, and in nautilus I don't have the option to share a
folder, which I would need because shares-admin has gone.

I installed nautilus-share now, but unfortunately it didn't help me at
all. See Bug #208715 which is a big blocker IMHO.

[Bug 208715] [NEW] nautilus-share: share can not have the same name as a user

2008-03-29 Thread old_toby
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In Hardy Beta

1. in nautilus, right-click on your home folder (which normally has the same
name as the user)
2. choose sharing options
3. check "share this folder"
4. click "create share"

error message:
'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: share name simon is
already a valid system user name

That means, no one can share his own home folder under his username.

[Bug 208715] Re: nautilus-share: share can not have the same name as a user

2008-03-29 Thread old_toby
well, if shares are set up with shares-admin, they are finally shared
with samba. I don't see why it shouldn't be possible to do it with
nautilus-shares, there is no sensible reason for that. and anyway, if
something works in a version and in the next version doesn't, that's
something that should just NEVER happen. setting the bug invalid and
just looking away is obviously not the best solution.

thanks for your great help

[Bug 212396] Re: Hardy Graphical Bug

2008-04-06 Thread old_toby
Well, it's a bit tricky. I'm using the fglrx ati driver, and that
combined with xserver-xgl breaks gnome-settings-daemon. Anyway I
installed xgl but couldn't even use the desktop cube (the rotation
works, but with no cube) and also didn't see any fire.

So unfortunately I can't even try to confirm your bug as long as my
compiz doesn't run correctly...

opacity), so I can try again.
