[Bug 363808] [NEW] Upgrade tool crashes if using different versions of python

2009-04-19 Thread Noe Misael Nieto Arroyo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

My laptop had Ubuntu 8.04, later upgraded to 8.10, then upgraded to
Jaunty using 'update-manager -d'. All the download process was fine upto
the package installation and configuration process.

On Intrepid I installed python 2.4 alongside 2.5. I need it for python
development such as zope, plone etc. Jaunty installed python 2.6 but for
some reason /usr/bin/python symlink was removed (it was pointing to
python 2.5), but never restored to the adequate path
(/usr/bin/python2.6). Since /usr/bin/python was not available, a lot of
scripts failed.

I managed to solve this issue by manually creating the /usr/bin/python
(to 2.6) symlink and reinstalling ubuntu-desktop package. That solved
the problem completely.

[Bug 363808] Re: Upgrade tool crashes if using different versions of python

2009-04-20 Thread Noe Misael Nieto Arroyo
I took a quick look at the logs in /var/log/dist-upgrade/. It says
something about no space left on disk.

I was running low in disk space. Actually attempted the update once and
failed (update-manager refused to do the update).

After that I cleaned up HD a little. Then update-manager agreed to
continue with the free space left.

[Bug 459919] [NEW] Changing the computer name is no longer posible using only GUI tools on Karmic

2009-10-24 Thread Noe Misael Nieto Arroyo
Public bug reported:

I recall that going to System-> Administration -> Network and then
selecting the "General" tab was the way to go to change my laptop's
hostname. But for some strange reason, now that I upgraded to Jaunty,
the "general" tab appears no more.

Has this option just "vanished" on Karmic?

I know that you can edit /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts and then you are
all set. But this is a no-go for non-tech/ubuntu/linux-savvy users: for
example my boss or my syster, my mother and so on..

I don't know if this is a bug or a feature. I am also doubtful if this
is specific to Ubuntu or to gnome.

Kind regards.

Noe.

Information:

Ubuntu Karmic last updated on October 23.
