2008-11-11 Thread Matze
Confirmed at Hardy -> Intrepid Update.
I had this on 3 different Systems, all of them rendered useless.
Workaround when it happened was to enter shell (strg-alt-F1) DO NOT BOOT THE
MACHINE
dpkg --configure -a
apt-get remove amarok amarok-engine-xine

and continue with

apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

after another
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
i rebooted.
Then a final apt-get update/dist-upgrade
and finally
apt-get install amarok

killall -TERM gpsd
rfcomm release /dev/rfcomm0
hcitool scan
rfcomm bind /dev/rfcomm0 00:1C:88:00:8E:7E

gpsd /dev/rfcomm0

* The script is startes with 'sudo ./start_gps.sh'
* xgps is started in a Terminal with the "normal" user.
* The Output in the Terminal is:

[Bug 555673] Re: xgps crashed with IndexError in set_satlist_field()

2010-04-11 Thread matze
Hi Bernd,

I was only able to reproduce the problem once. The other tools were
woorking well and xgps crashes even when gpsd is started with the -b
switch. (see the short log at the end).

Now I have recorded the output of my gps several times with gpscat and
I replayed it with gpsfake. But xgps won't crash again.

Maybe the bug has disapeared. ;-)

[Bug 1877039] [NEW] gnome-terminal maximize then un-maximize behaves odd

2020-05-06 Thread Matze
Public bug reported:

If I open a new terminal ('ctrl-alt-t' or from the run menu), then maximize and
un-maximize i get odd behavior. maximize does fine, but then clicking the
'un-maximize' does restore the terminal window to the previous size *minus* 1
pixel in each horizontal and vertical.
If i repeat that, each time the terminal size shrinks by 1 pixel.

I'd expect that it return it to the size it was before maximize.

[Bug 1774950] Re: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47)

2018-06-12 Thread Matze
@pHeLiOn: Thanks for putting in the effort! Seeing that this is not resolved
yet, I figured that though I'm not a kernel-hacker/sysadmin-guru by a long
shot, I'll throw my tidbits in, in the faint hope that someone gets onto the
right track.
(For rememberance: Acer Aspire E13, Intel Celeron N2940, 4GB RAM, changed
standard HD for a 250G SSD)

1.)
The 'other' bug I mentioned above was (I believe) resolved by adding the
statement intel_idle.max_cstate=1 in the grub configuration file. However, my
first inquiries into the problem (System freezes, not resolvable by anything
(didnt try remote access, though)) pointed me to a potential problem with the
SSD HD. Now, I cannot, for the life of me, remember what it was, exactly, but
it was something along the lines of Point No. 6 on this site:
http://bernaerts.dyndns.org/linux/74-ubuntu/250-ubuntu-tweaks-ssd
I remembered this because you narrowed it down to some CPU types PLUS SSD, so,
maybe there's a hint somewhere.

2.)
In my above Post, I mentioned that my problem was 'fixed' in 18.04 by
downgrading the kernel, as mentioned.
Well, it IS fixed in a way, but there remain some oddities - for example: After
Boot, the cooling fan is on (running at a moderate pace at first) no matter
what, even after a cold boot. It takes putting the system into suspend and out
again (which, as mentioned, works now!) so that the fan is turned off
completely - and, somewhat worringly, stays off. I've not tested running the
system at full power to see if the cooling fan comes on again, when required -
so as of now, I take it a bit on 'good faith' that it will :)

These are my further observations - hope it helps somehow!

2018-06-06 Thread Matze
I'm affected by this bug, too.
System is Acer E13 Laptop with 250G SSD, Intel Celeron N2940, 4GB RAM
Initial and only install on this system was Ubuntu 16.04(where I had to insert
a parameter into GRUB to prevent another system freeze bug to occur), uprgaded
flawlessly to 17.10 and then to 18.04. And since the upgrade to 18.04, this
bug, as extensively described above, with the same symptoms, was present.
I fiddled a around a lot, with some hints directing me to either the fishy
power management of the cpu (the above-mentioned, different bug, ostensibly
originated from there) or the still-faulty new graphics driver, albeit I don't
really know if that nouveau Graphics driver is even compatible with my Intel
cpu graphics.
What finally solved the bug for me was the above-recommended downgrade (via
ukuu) to kernel 4.14 - so no I'm running 18.04 with Kernel 4.41.41 with this
bug no longer occuring

What's left to do now, I believe, is to klick away the kernel upgrade
notifications and hoping for a fix in a newer kernel :)

[Bug 1247371] Re: scanner only works once Canon LIDE 110

2013-11-02 Thread matze
I found a workaround with the following settings in the USB
configuration of the ASUS Z87-K mainboard

legacy USB support: enabled
Intel xHCI Mode: disabled
EHCI Hand-off: disabled

Now the scanner works perfect and I am not aware of negative effects.
Maybe because I don't have any USB3 devices.

[Bug 887613] [NEW] Annotation Symbol is on wrong place and not clickable.

2011-11-08 Thread matze

If i add an anotation in an pdf, sometimes the annotation symbol isn't there,
where it should be. On the "correct" place I can click the area and the

and i can't click on it.
In the case the bug happens, all annotations, also old and new annotations in
this pdf are on a wrong place. The bug is not on all pdf's but on some. Sorry i
don't know why it happens on a pdf and on not on an other pdf.

[Bug 42947] Re: postfix: fatal: /etc/postfix/postfix-script: No such file or directory

2011-05-21 Thread matze
I think this bug still exists in 10.04 LTS!
I had the problem like
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postfix/+bug/42947/comments/12 and
the workaround from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postfix/+bug/42947/comments/27 worked
for me.

Is there a reason that this bug isn't fixed?

[Bug 512994] Re: Banshee freezes on start trying to look for network share on previous network

2010-10-16 Thread matze
The bug also affects me.
When I start banshee in the terminal, the following error occures:

[Warn [...]] Failed to load media-player-info file for
 ** (Banshee: [...]): CRITICAL **: itdb_get_control_dir: assertion `mountpoint'
failed #

After this I deactivate the daap support and delete the
Banshee.Daap.dll Banshee.Dap.dll Banshee.Podcasting.dll
data, like Jeff above me wrote.
So, banshee is running!
But I need the Pdcasting support in Banshee, which I can't use at the moment.

This bug can be a duplicate of Bug #646482, but there they wrote about media
device support, which doesn't affect this here.
See: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/646482

I user Banshee 1.7.6 on Ubuntu 10.10!
