[Bug 566978] [NEW] quickcam pro 4000 works on hardy but not karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cheese This is a bug in v4l2, not cheese, but I couldn't find the appropriate package. Can you redirect it? [Bug 451305] Re: Changes xorg.conf when driver installation fails, no warning
I suspect there's another bug, but perhaps not in jockey. I installed linux-headers-generic-pae and did a dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-185-kernel-source But I got the "Module build for the currently running kernel was skipped since the kernel source for this kernel does not seem to be installed" error (even though the headers were there). As the earlier poster commented, I had to apt-get remove --purge linux-headers-2.6.31-15 And then, when I did an apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.31-15-pae it automatically rebuilt (successfully) the nvidia.ko. -- Changes xorg.conf when driver installation fails, no warning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/451305 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 487352] [NEW] xorg crashes on login with PAE kernel + nvidia
Public bug reported: Machine (Dell T1500) seems stable with stock karmic kernel. Switched to PAE kernel, installed headers so driver can recompile, came up to gdm login okay. But autologin fails instantly, dropping me back to the login screen. Logging in fails about 90% of the time -- screen flashes and I get dropped back to gdm. Once in a while it actually logs in okay, at which point it seems to be fine. /var/log/gdm/:0.log.1 shows SIGSEGV in nvidia_drv.so. (will attach). BTW, ubuntu-bug sucks for reporting xorg problems. [Bug 580780] [NEW] don't die just because root can write /etc/sudoers
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: sudo it's harmfully and excessively paranoid for sudo to bail if /etc/sudoers has the write flag for root set. if the sudo maintainers insist on misfeatres like that, ubuntu should turn them off. [Bug 358793] Re: UNR jaunty: Slow interface, high CPU load
My Dell Mini 10 (inspiron 1010) is also affected by this bug. netbook- launcher takes many seconds per action and eats 100% CPU. Switching to the traditional ubuntu menu system fixes it (System... Preferences... Main Menu.) -- UNR jaunty: Slow interface, high CPU load https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/358793 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 358793] Re: UNR jaunty: Slow interface, high CPU load
After switching from the default VESA drivers to an accelerated driver, the netbook-launcher works okay on the Mini 10 (inspiron 1010). Also, my previous workaround was incorrect. The correct way to disable netbook-launcher is Preferences... Switch Desktop Mode. -- UNR jaunty: Slow interface, high CPU load https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/358793 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 418337] [NEW] "Administer the system" for new user requires reboot
Public bug reported: UNR 9.04 (jaunty). gnome-system-tools version 2.22.2-0ubuntu4. Create new user with "Administer the system" right. Log out. Login as new user. Try to use "Users and Groups" tool. Fails. Reboot system, login as new user. Succeeds. Also, the new user creation dialog is confusing: it asks whether the new user should be a user or an administrator, but I couldn't figure out what "administrator" meant. And there's no indication from the existing user (or root) properties to suggest whether they're administrators or not. ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- "Administer the system" for new user requires reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418337 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 452840] [NEW] disabling netbook-launcher breaks window manager
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: netbook-launcher jaunty UNR, fresh updates as of 16 Oct 2009. Asus EEE pc 900. Slow netbook-launcher, as expected. Changing to the classic mode using "Switch Desktop Mode" works fine. But then when I logout or reboot, the window manager doesn't come up. I can right-click on the desktop and the context menu comes up, and I can do things like changing the desktop background, but I don't get any task bars top or bottom, and windows that appear don't have any decorations. The only way I found to fix it is to sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop, delete everything in my home directory (rm -rf .?* * # use with care), then /etc/init.d/gdm start. That returns me to the netbook-launcher, and all its attendant CPU-hogging and slowness. (See an alternative workaround in the link below) Also tried simply switching to another window manager. But apparently wifi is now tied to the gnome session (WTF?!), so I don't get any internet access unless I'm logged into the gnome session. (Perhaps there's a magic iwconfig incantation or something, but no idea where I'd find that; it saw my AP but wouldn't connect to it. Something about the MAC not being supplied by the gnome app, perhaps?) Apparently I'm not the first to see this wm problem: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1176929 netbook-launcher sucks SO BAD. I've had to work around it on every single UNR install I've done, across 3 different types of netbook. Please make it go away. ** Affects: netbook-launcher (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- disabling netbook-launcher breaks window manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/452840 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 452844] [NEW] broken redirects to ReportingBugs wikipage
Public bug reported: Yes, I read the ReportingBugs page. No, the other options don't work for me. So I tried to submit by hand on launchpad. Searched for package netbook-launcher. Click to report a bug. Get redirected back to the ReportingBugs page. Making me type the package name in the URL? Very annoying. I'm staying up late to write these bug reports because I care. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- broken redirects to ReportingBugs wikipage https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/452844 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 602972] [NEW] Please sync googlecl from debian unstable (main)
Public bug reported: I read the wikipage ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/NewPackages ) on how to request getting packages into maverick after the DIF, but it doesn't indicate what package to report the bug against (or how to do that from launchpad's web interface), so I have no idea if this is going to end up in the right place or not. We tried to get googlecl (a nifty command-line interface for using google services) into debian in time for Maverick, but we missed it by a few days. People have already packaged it for almost a dozen other OSes, and we'd hate to see maverick miss out.
