Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netbook-launcher

jaunty UNR, fresh updates as of 16 Oct 2009.
Asus EEE pc 900.

Slow netbook-launcher, as expected.
Changing to the classic mode using "Switch Desktop Mode" works fine. But then
when I logout or reboot, the window manager doesn't come up. I can right-click
on the desktop and the context menu comes up, and I can do things like changing
the desktop background, but I don't get any task bars top or bottom, and
windows that appear don't have any decorations.

The only way I found to fix it is to sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop, delete
everything in my home directory (rm -rf .?* * # use with care), then
/etc/init.d/gdm start. That returns me to the netbook-launcher, and all
its attendant CPU-hogging and slowness. (See an alternative workaround
in the link below)

Also tried simply switching to another window manager. But apparently
wifi is now tied to the gnome session (WTF?!), so I don't get any
internet access unless I'm logged into the gnome session. (Perhaps
there's a magic iwconfig incantation or something, but no idea where I'd
find that; it saw my AP but wouldn't connect to it. Something about the
MAC not being supplied by the gnome app, perhaps?)

Apparently I'm not the first to see this wm problem:

netbook-launcher sucks SO BAD. I've had to work around it on every
single UNR install I've done, across 3 different types of netbook.
Please make it go away.
