Similar problem here. Acer TM 5730G w Karmic desktop, udevadm monitor reports tons of sr0 events. Happens here too using an n455 based netbook (J&W minix m1200) right after login. The power management keeps bugging me with useless notification in an infinite loop. After removing the battery indicator the notifications are gone, but the top still reports high cpu usage caused by upowerd. Happens something similar here. I use eclipse (helios 3.6.2, java EE) most of the time, the window is maximized in a workspace. When i switch to another workspace and back, the keyboard seems to be not working in eclipse. Not always but many times a day. Everything gets back to normal again after restoring the eclipse window As far as i remember, it happened previously too w earlier versions of OS/eclipse after locking/unlocking the screen. In both karmic and lucid the resolution for me was issuing sudo hal-disable-polling --device /dev/sr0 but (dunno if it's related) disks burned with this device are mostly unusable.
