[Bug 212176] Re: Firefox loses font hinting after reboot

2008-07-09 Thread litemotiv
As this does not seem to be a Firefox bug but rather a Xubuntu / Xfce4
one (xfce-mcs-plugins?), could someone with some insight please attach
it to the appropriate package and/or maintainer? I fear it might get
lost in the stream otherwise when it stays in limbo.

Thanks,

[Bug 250769] [NEW] Firefox opens new popup window when leaving any page with swfdec content

2008-07-22 Thread litemotiv
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Intrepid Development
firefox-3.0 3.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu1

When leaving any page containing swfdec rendered content, Firefox opens
a new popup window containing the flash object. In some cases, trying to
close this popup results in a Firefox crash/shutdown.

[Bug 247984] Re: Intrepid: ia32-lib conflict with nvidia-glx-177

2008-07-16 Thread litemotiv

I currently have no better solution to offer by lack of insight, but i do
expect a lot of criticism from the community for automatically pushing 32bit
libs on 64bit systems, also because it's quite a large install.

I and many others don't use flashplugin-nonfree since it's proprietary
and requires ia32, so we resort to swfdec instead which doesn't involve
those.

[Bug 179399] Re: bluetooth-properties crashed with signal 5 while adding HID device

2008-04-08 Thread litemotiv
It works fine now here, following these steps:

- remove existing device (if present) with bluetooth-applet
- add device under services -> input service
- press pairing button on keyboard
- select found device
- enter passkey on main keyboard [enter] -> enter passkey on bluetooth keyboard
- wait 2-3 seconds and all is set

Rebooting the computer also produces a working connection.

The only problem remaining is that the connection is dropped when the
system goes into standby. I need to manually disconnect the keyboard
under Bonded Devices and press connect again to regain function.

[Bug 193224] Re: VirtualBox freezes, unfreezes after window resize

2008-04-30 Thread litemotiv
I believe i can confirm this on Hardy with Virtualbox 1.5.6. I don't use
MS Word myself, but Adobe Photoshop CS3 exhibits similar behaviour.
Usually the window in question whitens out and displays a "not
responding" text, though i can 'revive' it by opening a new Windows
Explorer instance. In rare cases (about 1 in 10), resizing the guest
window brings it back online.

I am using Shared Folders on the Hardy host which i think might have a
role in the time out / not responding.

[Bug 212176] Re: Firefox loses font hinting after reboot

2008-04-27 Thread litemotiv
Toshio, that's not really a solution but a workaround for people who
don't mind not using any font hinting. I personally prefer slight
hinting for best screen readability vs. smoothing.

With hinting set to true and hintstyle to hintslight in .fonts.conf,
Firefox still applies medium/full hinting (can't tell which), other
programs including Thunderbird do apply the correct hinting.

My only workaround here is to manually select slight hinting in the UI
prefs after each reboot or X start.

2007-09-08 Thread litemotiv
some additional info:

the script fails because the pidfile-path it parses from /etc/mpd.conf
contains a relative path ~/.mpd/pidfile on my system. as it can't find
that directory with an internal lookup it tries to mkdir it:

MPDCONF=/etc/mpd.conf
PIDFILE=$(sed -n 's/^[[:space:]]*pid_file[[:space:]]*"\?\([^"]*\)\"\?/\1/p'
$MPDCONF)

PIDDIR=$(dirname "$PIDFILE")
if [ ! -d "$PIDDIR" ]; then
mkdir -m 0755 $PIDDIR
chown $USER:audio $PIDDIR
fi

also, it might be better if the script looked for the file
/home/username/.mpdconf first for settings, before trying /etc/mpd.conf.
mpd itself looks in ~/.mpdconf for configuration first.

thanks. :-)

[Bug 175436] Re: Hardy LiveCD fails to identify nVidia 8400M GS on Sony Vaio SZ

2008-02-05 Thread litemotiv
i am experiencing the same problem with a 8400GS on a Dell XPS M1330.
what i see here, is that the wrong kernel module is loaded for this
videocard. even after manually installing nvidia-glx-new, this error is
thrown:

"Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 71.86.01, but
this NVIDIA driver component has version 169.09."

this error is persistent, doing a:

rmmod nvidia
modprobe nvidia_new

solves it for the current session, it falls back to legacy however after
a reboot.

[Bug 157773] Re: X Server is crashing with "nvidia" driver on Geforce 8xxx series cards in Ubuntu Gutsy

2008-02-05 Thread litemotiv
Timo, i can confirm this bug still exists in Hardy. Tested on a Dell XPS
M1330 (Nvidia 8400m gs) with the latest updates.

After enabling the driver (jockey output shows that nvidia-glx-new is
installed) and rebooting, lsmod lists a 4.5mb (legacy?) module being
loaded instead of the 11-12mb nvidia_new module.

rmmod nvidia & modprobe nvidia_new loads the right module and enables X
again.

[Bug 132403] Re: Cpu frequency scaling is limited to stock speeds

2007-12-09 Thread litemotiv
Hi Leann,

I have tried 2.6.24-1 as you requested. The new kernel gives a lot of
problems at this stage (i can't get X starting properly for instance),
so i did some preliminary tests from the command line.

So far it seems like the bug still exists: cpufreq says the hardware
limit is 2.39ghz, even though the processor did get properly detected as
3ghz by the kernel during boot. Apparently cpufreq uses the stock-values
reported by the cpu rather than the actual speed that was detected by
the kernel?

Best regards,
-lite.

[Bug 201342] [NEW] Compiz uses single refreshrate with separate X screens

2008-03-12 Thread litemotiv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

When using 2 separate X screens with Vsync on, Compiz should honor each
screen's refreshrate independently. Instead it pushes a single refresh,
causing tearing on one of the screens when both screens are not in
perfect sync.

Ubuntu Hardy
compiz-core 1:0.7.2-0ubuntu1

Dell XPS M1330 laptop (Intel Core2Duo T7500, 2GB ram, Nvidia 8400M GS,
internal monitor and external Dell 2405FPW)

Steps to reproduce:

1) Use a dual-monitor setup with 2 separate X screens
2) Start Compiz with Vsync enabled
3) Move a window around both screens

You will find that screen 0 shows no sign of tearing, screen 1 will show
a single large tearline running down the screen, timed at the clock
difference between both screens.

A bit more information taken from a post to Nvidia corp.:

[question]
i have a twinview setup with 2 lcd's: nvidia-settings says screen 1 has a
59.99hz refreshrate, screen 2 has 59.95hz.

as a result, with vsync on (without is undoable), one of the screens
always has one major tearline running down very slowly. the other one is
smooth. depending on which screen i make primary, the other one starts
to tear.

so i guess that sort of makes sense, as the screens are slightly out of
sync, but isnt there a way to make both screen vsync correctly? i tried
running 2 separate x screens but that doesnt seem to be the solution
(compiz is still only using 1 global refreshrate).

[answer]
In TwinView, there's only one video memory surface for the screen, so it's only
possible to sync to one or the other. To sync to both at the same time, you'd
need to wait for the refreshes to line up again, which happens every 1/(59.99
Hz - 59.95 Hz) = 25 seconds = unacceptable. One thing you could try is to use
identical mode timings for both screens, if your display devices can handle it.

With two separate X screens, you can swap each one independently so you
should be able to get tear-free swaps on both screens. If Compiz can't
do it, that sounds like a bug in Compiz.

-AaronP, Nvidia Corporation.

[Bug 212176] [NEW] Firefox loses font hinting after reboot

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

With font hinting set to slight, Firefox produces smooth screen fonts.
However, after a reboot this setting is lost, and hinting has to be set
again to regain smooth fonts.

System used:

- Xubuntu Hardy
- Compiz 1:0.7.2-0ubuntu2
- Firefox 3.0~b4+nobinonly-0ubuntu1

Steps to reproduce:

2. Start Firefox, check that screen fonts are smooth
3. Reboot
4. Start Firefox, see that screen fonts are not smooth
5. Reset Slight Hinting, Restart Firefox, fonts are smooth again
