[Bug 163432] Re: XPRESS 200M 5A42: x turns backlight off, freezes keyboard, post 7.04->7.10 upgrade
This eliminates the symptoms, so should I or should you update the status to "fixed"? Also, is there anyone else I should tell so that this note can be added to appropriate release notes? And, I may down grede to the previous ubuntu anyway due to other problems, so if there are other settings or changes that you would like me to try, it would be good to mention them soon. There is a contact form at http://www.mv.com/ipusers/ke1g/ if marking the bug as fixed means that this communication path will be closed to us. [Bug 148630] Re: Wired not available in NetworkManager after wireless is used (Gutsy)
I haven't tried wired, but I may have another manifestation of this, or I may have something unrelated, so I ask, are you able to switch locations when they use different access points? When I use network-manager to select and apply another location, for the purpose of connecting the the AP that I'm now near (roaming never worked for me in feisty), I get the song and dance, but no IP address on the interface (ath0, atheros in a Toshiba). If I then reboot, the interface comes up fine with the newly selected AP. If you're experience doesn't match, I'll perhaps open a fresh bug. But it strikes me that the problems might be related. -- Wired not available in NetworkManager after wireless is used (Gutsy) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148630 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 141355] Re: Atheros AR511 not connecting to networks
I don't know how related, but the Atheros in my Toshiba Satellite (lspci reports AR2413) connects, shows other networks in network-manager properties SSID list... (It has problems switching AP without a reboot, but that sounds like a separate issue.) -- Atheros AR511 not connecting to networks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/141355 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 148630] Re: Wired not available in NetworkManager after wireless is used (Gutsy)
I found the long cat-5 cable and plugged in. Maybe I wasn't patient enough, but the interface didn't come up on its own. It was suitably checked, and DHCP was selected. I can bring it up with sudo ifconfig eth0 down followed by ...up , but I also have to bring the wireless down with ifconfig before the routing gets changed to use the wired (I have a slide switch to shut off WiFi, again, maybe I didn't wait long enough). I'm not sure what to try in order to confirm what. I can cycle things in various ways if it helps in the search (though this will be my last playing for about 18 hours). Just make a detailed suggestion. -- Wired not available in NetworkManager after wireless is used (Gutsy) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148630 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 163432] x turns backlight off, freezes keyboard, post 7.04->7.10 upgrade
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd Today I upgraded my Toshiba Satellite M45 from an up to date Feisty to Gutsy. All appeared to go well. I let it drop the no longer supported packages that it suggested. Upon reboot, splash screen and progress bar run, but when X server starts, the screen goes black. Not just dark, but black, so I presume the backlight is being shut off. I tried blind switching to a virtual terminal and logging in to reboot (root is enabled on this box, so that's easier than might be), but with no effect. I am able to ssh into the box, run ps, run emacs (which runs fine on the X display of the system I'm sshing from), issue sudo shutdown, etc. The X server appears to be running. When I try logging in on the consold keyboard by using, say, CTL-ALT-F2 to go to a virtual terminal (there is a suitable getty running) and log in blind as either myself or root, no extra bash shows up in ps alx, so I presume that the keyboard isn't working, or the X server is too wedged to let the virtual terminal switching work. It has an ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M, which isn't mentioned in bug 132716, but I tried the device option "LVDSBiosNativeMode" "false" suggested in the last post there and in the release notes. This does NOT produce a workaround. The laptop is now NOT USEFUL under Ubuntu (and we could argue as to whether it's useful under XP), so I'm hoping for some help finding a workaround. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- x turns backlight off, freezes keyboard, post 7.04->7.10 upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163432 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Aditional: X server consumes 99.9% CPU according to top. radeontool light on doesn't turn the light on. Config file is attached. There is no change from what worked on Feisty's server other than the workaround option line mentioned in the release notes. ** Attachment added: "xorg.conf" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10473140/xorg.conf -- x turns backlight off, freezes keyboard, post 7.04->7.10 upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163432 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

And the log file from a fresh start is attached here. I'm happy to try downgrading the server, etc. I'll need a certain amount of instruction as to what versions to try, any required sources changes, command line command (though I can probably run Synaptic remotely), since I'm no apt/deb expert. ** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10473157/Xorg.0.log -- x turns backlight off, freezes keyboard, post 7.04->7.10 upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163432 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 163432] Re: x turns backlight off, freezes keyboard, post 7.04->7.10 upgrade
And looking at the log, I'm not convinced that radeonhd is involved. I figure that it's just the ati server (though I don't really know). Since I don't know how to "retarget" this against just xserver-xorg-video-ati, I'm guessing that adding that package is as close as I can come. ** Also affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- x turns backlight off, freezes keyboard, post 7.04->7.10 upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163432 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 132106] Re: [gutsy] keyspan serial adapter not detected
I dusted off my USA-19HS today, because I needed it, but since I've upgraded to gutsy, I wound up here. I tried Denis's .deb, but, although it's still 2.6.22-14-generic, some even lower level version number moved from 46 to 47, and the package doesn't install. Ok, so I set up to build kernels, then tried to follow the instructions referenced above, but with limited success. Probably I don't understand where all I have to edit to re-enable the keyspan driver. I tried debian/config/i386/config.386 since the recommended "oldconfig" invocation seems to build up config from the config.* files in the arch directory (but I later noticed that it then seems to delete the config thus generated), but still no keyspan stuff. (The last time that I configured a kernel I used make menuconfig, which worked fine. But the kernel build system is already complex without adding the debian layers around it, and I'm fairly lost) So, Denis, if you're listening, can you give me a pointer as to which files to edit? (And did you have to add the execute bit to the stuff in debian/scripts/misc in order to run the oldconfig script?) I figured that I'd comment here, rather than asking in a forum (just yet) to add my voice to the chorus saying that disabling the user's hardware over an abstract licensing tif, and not providing an obvious and simple way for the user to make the opposite choice, is a less than fully correct thing to do. -- [gutsy] keyspan serial adapter not detected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132106 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 676624] Re: Panel applets randomly fail to start.
This still occurs in 11/04. I don't remember it when first installed, so recent updates may have re-introduced this (if it was ever gone). This is on an Acer Aspire 5517 (AMD 64-bit) with the classic interface. As reported, re-logging in seems to bring things back. My gut suspicion is that on the first login after booting, something hasn't fully finished starting up, and the applets or the panel trips over it, or possibly something is very busy, and the panel's applet launcher or some call the applets all make times out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/676624 Title: Panel applets randomly fail to start.
