[Bug 139564] Re: Unable to drag file from nautilus into gnumeric
It does seem to work ok now. Using Ubuntu 8.0.4.1 dragging images, text files, even html opens them in Gnumeric. Dragging an xls file didnt work though, I got an error message Unrecoqnised file format. Oddly, if I try and open a normal .xls file in this std version of gnumeric, I got the same error message, wheras in gnumeric-gtk, it opens fine, AFAIR. Interesting, if you install gnumeric-gtk (NOT the default option in Ubuntu), then dragging and dropping doesnt work. -- Unable to drag file from nautilus into gnumeric https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139564 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 367769] [NEW] freeradius init script not consistent with radiusd.conf
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: freeradius I'm running the latest stable, Ubuntu 9.04. I installed the package freeradius and freeradius-mysql, along with its dependencies. It took me 8 hours to figure out why freeradius was not working! I kept getting following errors: Failed binding to socket: Address already in use /etc/freeradius/radiusd.conf[236]: Error binding to port for 0.0.0.0 port 1812 r...@delta:/etc/freeradius# /etc/init.d/freeradius stop * Stopping FreeRADIUS daemon freeradius * /var/run/freeradius/freeradius.pid not found... This made me think that freeradius was not running, and I wasn't able to start it since the port was already in use, but could not figure out where. Eventually, I noticed that /etc/freeradius/radiusd.conf was using /var/run/radiusd/radiusd.pid, while the init script was using /var/run/freeradius/freeradius.pid I changed the radiusd.conf file to use /var/run/freeradius/freeradius.pid, which resolved the issue. I'm impressed with all that is happening here in trying to get our ATI cards to work. [Bug 32853] Re: installing NVIDIA non-free binary package requires manual configuration
look at the livna fedora RPMs to see how this can be solved ideally (for the user): "The Livna Nvidia and ATI driver RPMS come with a small python script, which works as an extension to system-config-xfree86. It does all the editing of the Xorg configuration file for you while installing/activating the driver. […] Also, you do not need to drop out of X to perform the installation. [Bug 19749] Re: SATA HDD not recognized during Breezy Colony 4 install or Dapper Flight 3 or Edgy Eft or Feisty Fawn
I've just tried to install for the first time Kubuntu 7.10 Final (never tried any Ubuntu/Kubuntu dist so far) and I stuck on the same place. I'm not able to complete instalation due unrecognized SATA HDD. My laptop is Toshiba Tecra S3 with Intel's ICH6. I can confirm that ata_piix mess up the hole thing. If I run sudo rmmod -w ata_piix sudo modprob -r ahci and after that: sudo modprobe ahci sudo modprobe ata_piix in system log (dmesg) I can see my hdd correctly detected (/dev/sdb3 in my case). However this is possible only if I quit X session (interrupt installation), but after that I get a lot of ugly messages that breaks squashfs mount. Anyway I've never had a such problems with my previously installed distro (Slackware 12) and I don't know what to do to workaround this issue, because I can't complete installation of Gutsy. If I try "text mode installation" and run "bash console" in installer menu then I can perform from console above (modprobe) commands and continue with installation (exit in console) - then it detects my SATA HDD and seems installs some core apps, but after first reboot that installer ask from me seems that installation is not complete (for example if I issue "sudo lsmod" I get an empty list!). [Bug 19749] Re: SATA HDD not recognized during Breezy Colony 4 install or Dapper Flight 3 or Edgy Eft or Feisty Fawn
Ok, here is my workaround: 1. Download Alternative CD or complete DVD image 2. Chose text install -> press F6 and add (space separated) new option: ata_piix.blacklist=yes 3. Install (K)ubuntu as usual (in text mode). Note: above command will add ata_piix module in (/target)/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.local which means that after installation ata_piix will continue to be NOT loaded (blacklisted). 4. After installation, be good and add ata_piix at the end of /etc/modules on a single line, so this module will be loaded after the normal boot. 5. Fix /etc/fstab to use /dev/scd0 instead of /dev/hda Normally ata_piix (on my machine) handle CD/DVD drive as /dev/scd0, but while installation and because ata_piix was blacklisted CDROM drive was auto detected as /dev/hda, so in order /media/cdrom to become available just fix fstab as I've noted. [Bug 19749] Re: SATA HDD not recognized during Breezy Colony 4 install or Dapper Flight 3 or Edgy Eft or Feisty Fawn
Yes, kernel tells that this is invalid boot option, but as you may know unrecognized options are passed through the chain.. According documentation on the install disk ( /media/cdrom0/doc/install/manual/en/ch05s02.html ) Section "5.2.1.3. Blacklisting kernel modules", you can read: "You can blacklist a module using the following syntax: module_name.blacklist=yes. This will cause the module to be blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.local both during the installation and for the installed system. Note that a module may still be loaded by the installation system itself. You can prevent that from happening by running the installation in expert mode and unselecting the module from the list of modules displayed during the hardware detection phases." So, if I add on the boot line: ata_piix.blacklist=yes and after boot I quit text mode installer and type: lsmod |grep ata_piix I don't see this module loaded which confirms that module is blacklisted. I can try to dig more, but currently at least I have working Kubuntu after all this. -- SATA HDD not recognized during Breezy Colony 4 install or Dapper Flight 3 or Edgy Eft or Feisty Fawn https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/19749 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 245794] Re: [Errno 5] Input/Output Error during Live CD Installation
I wanted badly to contribute with my feedback regarding this stressing bug. First of all, I've never seen such issue before (7.x, 8.x). Recently I decide to download and burn Ubuntu 9.04 (DVD), sweep old installation and install the new one from the scratch. I've burned the dvd on Verbatim DVD+R (then I've tried also Sony DVD+R too, on slow speed) - in both cases dvd image burned ok (md5 sum is ok too). I've used check disk integrity (via Ubuntu menu when you boot from the DVD) and I get *no* errors. Then I've tried to install the OS, but I've got the same error every time on the same place (34% in my case when you goes in graphical mode) and then I can't do anything than start installation from the scratch. Once I've tried to install in text mode (via text menus) and everything was ok (i.e no errors like those) but I wasn't able to configure after installation the OS to start in graphical mode (it seems too much work to do the proper settings, what I normally receive with graphical installation, so I give up and installed without any issues the old version 8.10). So, on the bottom of this story I'm pretty sure that the DVD media is burned ok (proved with text mode installation), but it seems that graphical mode installer has some glitch that prevent at some point proper installation. I really need badly that this bug will be fixed in future releases (9.10?). Maybe reading method (DVD driver) does not try to use crc1/crc2 to recover. I mean that you can read anywhere this disk on any OS without read errors, but not in the installer. -- [Errno 5] Input/Output Error during Live CD Installation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/245794 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 431863] Re: Does not connect to WEP or WPA2 Enterprise networks anymore
Got this one sorted. Connection to network is fine with both Network Manager and WICD if you select a static IP. The fault would seem to be not with either package but elsewhere in Ubuntu unless they contain the same bug which seems highly unlikely. My setting are in IPv4. address: 192.168.1.50 (three Ubuntu machines at 50, 51 and 52 to keep out of the way of the dynamic IP stuff which are always in the 30s) netmask: 255.255.255.0 (setting taken from the forums) gateway: 192.168.1.1 (the IP of my router) DNS server: 192.168.1.1 (again) search domains: blank (you may have to put something in, then remove it to be able to click "apply") WICD also needs DNS1 which is 192.168.1.1 again. This is probably obvious stuff to you guys but for someone like me for whom 9.10 is the first step into Ubuntu, it was by no means so obvious. -- Does not connect to WEP or WPA2 Enterprise networks anymore https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/431863 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

You can try download swt 3.6M2 for linux-gtk-[your_arch] from http://www.eclipse.org/swt/ uncompress the downloaded file and exec on a terminal: export CLASSPATH=/Folder_Where_Is_SWT/swt.jar tuxguitar The problem with the splash screen may still be there, but the other issues will be solved. -- not everything is display correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/455615 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 445829] Re: Text on "Games" menu is outside of window
This bug is not limited to the Games menu. It affects all menus. I have a Compaq Mini 110c and the following menus are affected: Accessories Education Games Graphics Office Sound and Video System Tools This is particularly problematic because the "desktop switcher" was deprecated and so it's no longer easy to access the normal gnome desktop unless you turn off the menu altogether. For new users it would add other problems. My "root" and "terminal" icons were not available because they were pushed below the accessible range of the menu. To work around that I simply used the "Main Menu" tool under System -> Administration and moved the "terminal" icon to the "Sytem Administration" menu so I could access it. Of course, if the "main menu" tool was made inaccessible it would be a bigger PITA. I think it should have a higher priority. It appears that the problem is caused when the menu allocates a large amount of space below one or more icons and this pushes the other icons below the accessible window. If I was a coder I would be glad to help, from all appearances it looks like the rendering algorythm creates a visible window based on the number of icons in a given menu and then renders the icons in that menu and if the procedure that creates the spacing of the icons allocates too much space and pushes the other icons down then the available window is not adjusted for this problem and the program icons become unavailable. -- Text on "Games" menu is outside of window https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445829 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 455615] Re: not everything is display correctly
@Onkar, No i don't have idea at what SVN revision was it fixed. I can only tell you that the bug is fixed at GC class: org.eclipse.swt.graphics.GC.java, At "initCairo()" method where cleary, there is an IF condition checking if GTK version is lesser than 2, 17, 0 I have tested override this methood content to 3.5 version of SWT, and the problem was gone. However after write this post, i saw that there are other problems than graphics, ( also fixed on 3.6 ) but not sure where are they fixed. These other problems, are also reproducible in eclipse (not only in tuxguitar). some buttons just don't works with mouse clicks. ( yes with keyboard ) In tuxguitar you can reproduce the problem: * Menu: Tools -> Plugins * Select any plugin, and click "Info" button. It only gain focus, but listeners are not fired, but if you press SPACE or ENTER listeners work. In eclipse ( may depend the version, i don't have it from repositories ) * Just open a source file, and press "Ctrl + F" * Type a search text, and click "Find" button.. I found problems on some other eclipse buttons too. but it's hard to give you steps to reproduce them. I had planned to release tuxguitar 1.2 this weekend but now i don't have idea what to do with this problem.. It seems that SWT versions lesser than 3.6, just can't coexist with new GTK versions. @MasterProg, The splash screen sometimes works but sometimes don't, even in 3.6 i don't know exactly the reason, but i was able to fix it from tuxguitar code calling an update inmediatly after the windows opens. and this fix yes works for lesser SWT versions of GTK. -- not everything is display correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/455615 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1868502] Re: Synchronization with earlier Ubuntu versions or a recent Debian version fails
So I also found a workaround that works for me so far. It is also downgrading to the bionic versions. First of all, I downloaded the packages from bionic and installed them manually (only unison and unison-all, though) as suggested by Sebastien Koechlin and Helge Meinhard said. Then, I created a file to pin it to that version so it will not get upgraded, i.e., in /etc/apt/preferences.d/unison I have: Package: unison Pin: version 2.48.4-1ubuntu1 Pin-Priority: 1000 Package: unison-all Pin: version 2.48+2 Pin-Priority: 1000 The other problem is that unison does not like to use the old archive files. You can try running unison with the `-ignorearchives` flag. If unison runs then, you have to remove the old archive file. If you have only one archive, you can just delete your ~/.unison directory and then run unison afterwards without any flags and it should be fine. If you have more archives and you do not want to rebuild them all, you have to find the proper file. I did this in a stupid way by copying them out one-by-one (both the arXXX and the fpXXX). The, I check if unison still reports an error and if so, it was the wrong archive and I copy it back. If I found the correct archive, I just stop. Maybe there is somebody who knows a flag which can tell you the archive file directly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1868502 Title: Synchronization with earlier Ubuntu versions or a recent Debian version fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unison/+bug/1868502/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 970517] Re: Change sound volume using keyboard multimedia keys while screen is locked
I have the same or similar issue: If I set up to "Do nothing" in Power settings when I close the lid of the laptop it actually locks the screen and then I cannot use the hardware knob of my external USB DAC to increase or decrease the volume. When I say "do nothing" it ignores the request by locking the screen. The second issue is that there is nothing wrong in using hardware buttons or the knob of external usb dac - if those (hardware) buttons/knobs are not phisically protected then I guess it is normal to be available. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/970517 Title: Change sound volume using keyboard multimedia keys while screen is locked To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/970517/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1099115] Re: Can't change brightness while screen is locked
I'm affected too. Basically I'm trying to use physical volume knob of external USB DAC to manipulate the volume of the sound. But since the screen is locked the knob is not working.. till I unlock the screen. The things become even more frustrating when I use the Power settings and set "Do nothing" option when you close the lid of the laptop. However when I close the lid what's happen is lock the screen (it turns it off, which is OK) but it also disables the external control. It would be great if sound control is allowed while the screen is locked and also some of the FN+key controls. P.S. Let me know if there is known workaround (like adding some udev rule, permission or configuration). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1099115 Title: Can't change brightness while screen is locked To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1099115/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
