[Bug 70077] Re: Random hangups
Hi Brian, I also reported this problem long time ago. I made a lot of investigations, cause it seem this problem is not strictly related to ubuntu, but can be found in other distros also. The "nice method" i used to fix this problem in ubuntu was to add a kernel panic reboot 3 secs (if kernel panic, than reboot in 3 secs). Exactly same problem i had with centos (tested on same machine). The freebsd 6.1 works perfect on that machine now, and i quit using ubuntu on it. The problem apeared when the server had high trafic/load than it would trow a random kernel panic, it was never same kernel panic, fhurther more i assume it may be an apache problem, installed/reinstalled/recompiled apache several times with different options, still the same. Changed ram from non-ecc to ecc, still same problem. While in freebsd it worked like a charm from the early begining. With ubuntu server uptime was near 10-15 max days, with freebsd it is now 70 days. Thanks for your time. -- Random hangups https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/70077 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 70077] Re: Random hangups
I also have random hangups. PC: p4 830 (dual core, 2mb, 64bit) 4gb Kingston ECC (tested several times for problems, also it is the replacement of old TwinMos not-ecc RAM) Asus P5WD2 Premium Mb 2xMaxtor SATA 1xDVDRW Asus. The errors apear from the early begining of the server, first was CentOS 4.3 distro installed, that crashed without any error message. Then i got to fedora core, same (crasehd 2 times a day), then i got to Ubuntu 6.06LTS, same thing happen, but with a nice kernel panic message at the end (i cannot find any clear message in the logs). It ends with a kernel panic message, and random info (the info vary each time, some times it say it is a apache2 problem, other times i get the notsyncing and so). Till now, i have replaced (or tested with replacements) for all the hardware components. Right now my only ASSUMPTION is that there is a conflict/bug into kernel 2.6.15 (this was used most of the times). If i go older kernel i lost a lot of functionlity required for my server. So the only hope is that some of kernel experts from here can have a look. Right now I have it working for about few days (2-7). -- Random hangups https://launchpad.net/bugs/70077 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
