[Bug 232087] [NEW] Resolution wrong on laptop when unpluging external monitor

2008-05-19 Thread irv
Public bug reported:

I am using a no name laptop with a 15" LCD screen. Also a external 22"
LCD monitor. Everything work fine. Both displays are right But when I
unplug the laptop to use without external monitor the resolution on the
laptop is wrong. the only way to correct it is to change resolution to a
lower setting and they re-set it back again. This will fix the problem.
I believe the bug is that the detection of the disconnection external
monitor is not seen. It thinks that I still have the external monitor
connected. I am not sure if this was the case in 7.10 but it is the case
in 8.04. I am using GNOME desktop ver 2.22.1 and Metacity.

I tried the:
sh -c "sleep 15; exec hp-systray"

I changed 15 to 45, and it fixed the problem.

[Bug 335662] Re: [jaunty] hplip status service cannot find system tray

2009-06-09 Thread irv
This error occurs every time I startup. The problem started after
upgrading to 9.04 of Ubuntu. I just close the error dialog and
everything seem to work OK. I just don't have the icon in the system
tray. If I un-install hplip the error goes away. When I reinstall it it
comes back so it is in this package.

[Bug 29399] Re: change of screen resolution does not work

2006-10-19 Thread irv
I had Dapper installed on my desktop and it worked great but I had some
problems with my Hard drive so I wiped and did a clean install of Edgy.
My computer came up in 1600 x 1200 resolution at 86Hz. I wanted to drop
down in resolution, but it hangs for about 15 seconds then give me the
login screen. I can login and everything work fine, but there is no way
to change resolution. I have a Dell Trinitron Monitor and a SiS vidio
on-board that worked great in Dapper. From looking at all the bugs out
here, there is something different from Dapper that is causing this. I
thought I would just add this to this bug report.

ok my bug report had different issues.

* missing translation in system settings (screen shutdown ..."never") is fixed
* system getting in suspension mode if leaved unattended is fixed
* inability to set the screen to shut down "never", still not working. Marking
this last one as duplicate of 863038, because its the same, except here is an
amd-64 system.

[Bug 1035737] Re: [ati rs690m] Can not install 12.10 Alpha3 because of Graphic problem

Yes, I tried again on 9/23/2012 with the daily built. No change since the
9/1/2012. Graphics are still corrupt even on the live OS. We are getting closer
to the final release I hop this problem will be fixed or this will be the first
release I won't be able to use. I will have to stay with 12.04.
I was wondering if any one knows what was changed in 12.10 to bring on this
problem?

[Bug 1027724] Re: [nvidia] Xorg freeze

2012-07-26 Thread irv
Rich, does this mean you can't use Unity for a desktop? I have had a similar
problem, but I get a lockup using Firefox or Chrome browser, but I am not sure
it is even that. I can make it lockup by just moving the scroll bar in any
windows. Then again I try to lock it up and it won't lock. Sometimes it will
lock a couple of times a day, then it goes for days without locking up. I have
read the syslog and it really does not tell me anything. It is always
different. It seems to be a kernel thing.
even when it lock (and I can't get anything to respond to keyboard or mouse
clicks, it will go to a prompt when I hit the Ctrl/Alt F2, from there I can run
sudo shutdown now, and it will shut down. This gets me away from just hitting
the power button and corrupting some files.
It seems in the graphic mode I can't do anything but at the prompt I can.
I installed a new SSD 180gig, reinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 and it still lockup. But
it ran about three days before it did.
I am using a Dell Inspiron 1521 with the AMD 64bit. Running Ubuntu 64bit
version. I do not have a nvidia graphics card.

[Bug 1035737] [NEW] Can not install 12.10 Alpha3 because of Graphic problem

2012-08-11 Thread irv
Public bug reported:

The only way I could get this bug report filed was to run in 2D. The 3D screen
is corrupt. Also could not run in Live OS off DVD or USB. Could not install
from either DVD or USB. Had to do an install of 12.04 then do an upgrade to
12.10. For more information please see this thread on the forum @
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2039669&page=1. Please read all the
post I made under user name irv. I will not add any screen shot yet but will
try to include them in the comments. You can see them on the forum also.
There was another bug report filed but it was from 12.04 and the problem was in
12.10. You can either delete that bug report or mark it as a duplacate of this
one.

2012-08-14 Thread irv
Tried the Alpha 2 on the USB with same results. Tried the DVD with Alpha 3 same
results.
Now the only way I could get Ubuntu installed was to first install 12.04 on
spare HD do the updates and then install 12.10. I was able to get it to boot in
2D so I could run the bug report. I have never had to jump throw this many
hoops before to get an OS to install.

[Bug 863324] [NEW] system settings -> screen -> shuntdown after ... cant be set at "never"

2011-09-30 Thread irv
Public bug reported:

oneiric fully updated, amd-64, system language in spanish

Leaving the pc unattended, it gets in suspension mode. Checking
preferences (system settings -> screen) you can set when the pc should
shut down (after 5 mins, 1 hour, "never" ...). The option "never" is not
translated to spanish (should be "nunca") and if you try to use that
option, the screen start to fade. So the maximum time you can set your
pc to work unattended is one hour.

This worked perfectly until yesterday so I guess is a regression.

Add this to the One Hundred Paper Cuts Project to allow for more

Sorry, but I have changed the hardware in this computer since I reported
this, so I can't post and thing of any relevance right now. I think I
still have the hardware, so I may be able to change it back and try it
in 8.10, I have a copy of he Beta from a few weeks ago, will that be
okay?

If you don't see anything from me in a week then consider this a dead
issue, since I probably will have either forgotten or didn't have the
time to try it.

[Bug 237215] [NEW] B43 and Nvidia Drivers will not work together

2008-06-03 Thread Het Irv

 169.12+2.6.24.12-16.34 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/restricted Packages
3)Expected

Install Wireless Restricted Drivers using a wireless bridge to access
the internet, then Install Nvidia Drivers. Reboot to a working computer
with 3D acceleration and Wireless access

4)Happens

Install Wireless Restricted Drivers using a wireless bridge, check the
drivers to confirm they are working properly (they are). Install Nvidia
Drivers and reboot. After rebooting, wireless is slow to authenticate
with the AP, and if and when it does, the connection is not stable and
rarely goes above 100Kb/s (normal = 500Kb/s).

No security is employed on the wireless card, and the only other clues I
have found is a line in /var/log that says "Old device 'wlan0'
activating, won't change." and alot of bad packets are shown in
Wireshark (more than 1/3).

I seriously doubt that there is anything wrong with the card because if
I reinstall the OS and only install the Wireless Drivers, it works
perfectly. Unfortunately disabling the Nividia Drivers after installing
them does not solve the problem.

have found is a line in /var/log that says "Old device 'wlan0'
activating, won't change." and alot of bad packets are shown in
  Wireshark (more than 1/3).

I seriously doubt that there is anything wrong with the card because if
I reinstall the OS and only install the Wireless Drivers, it works
perfectly. Unfortunately disabling the Nividia Drivers after installing
them does not solve the problem.

[Bug 214882] Re: klauncher crashed with SIGSEGV in XCloseDisplay()

2008-04-18 Thread Het Irv
Happened today while I was trying to rebuild top panel, it was deleted
on purpose and I was adding the Volume Control Icon to the panel, Gnome
froze when I clicked on the add button while VC was selected (it worked
for everything else I put on the panel, clock, menu, icons). I
restarted the Xserver and I would not come back up, so I had to do a
hard reset.

2008-03-13 Thread Het Irv
Desktop CD, I also noticed it when using the Xubuntu Live CD, on each I
chose the option to install directly to the Hard Disk without going to
the Live CD desktop. I haven't checked Ubuntu Live CD yet, but I have a
feeling that it is there to.

I would appreciate if you could check with your brother-in-law to see
what these errors may mean.

Your feedback would be appreciated.
