Happened today while I was trying to rebuild top panel, it was deleted on purpose and I was adding the Volume Control Icon to the panel, Gnome froze when I clicked on the add button while VC was selected (it worked for everything else I put on the panel, clock, menu, icons). I restarted the Xserver and I would not come back up, so I had to do a hard reset.
