[Bug 373660] [NEW] Restricted Drivers Disppear
Public bug reported: After a fresh instal of 9,04 the alternative restricted driver, which works, appears for the Atheros AR5007 wifi. After the first updates, and then a reboot, wifi stops working, and any entires in restricted drivers disappears. This is an HP G50-133US. This computer, along with the last 2 laptops I've had, is the 3rd one where wifi doesn't work "out of the box" under Ubuntu. The most madening this is, EACH of these computers is low end! AND each of these involved the Atheros wifi. Stuck with NO wifi. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: atheros drivers restricted -- Restricted Drivers Disppear https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373660 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
RE: [Bug 44407] Re: Samsung clp510 not working

The only way to get it working are closed-source drivers provided on Samsung's web site (or perhaps also included on the printer's driver CDs). This driver cannot be included in most distros due to copyright reasons. It also needs often special tricks to really work with the desired distribution. See http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Samsung-CLP-510 I am currently working with standardization of printer driver interfaces in LSB 3.2 and automatic driver download from the internet. This should make live easier in such situations. See http://www.freestandards.org/en/OpenPrinting/SummitLexington http://www.freestandards.org/wordpress/?p=224 https://features.launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+spec/printerdriverautodow nload -- Samsung clp510 not working https://launchpad.net/bugs/44407 Driver from samsung site does not work for me. After searching online, this driver works for sum, but not for tohers. Printer was sold a STAPLES office supply, and should be fairly common. Really needs to be supported.
