Your printer is not very well supported. The only way to get it working are closed-source drivers provided on Samsung's web site (or perhaps also included on the printer's driver CDs). This driver cannot be included in most distros due to copyright reasons. It also needs often special tricks to really work with the desired distribution. See http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Samsung-CLP-510 I am currently working with standardization of printer driver interfaces in LSB 3.2 and automatic driver download from the internet. This should make live easier in such situations. See http://www.freestandards.org/en/OpenPrinting/SummitLexington http://www.freestandards.org/wordpress/?p=224 https://features.launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+spec/printerdriverautodow nload -- Samsung clp510 not working https://launchpad.net/bugs/44407 Driver from samsung site does not work for me. After searching online, this driver works for sum, but not for tohers. Printer was sold a STAPLES office supply, and should be fairly common. Really needs to be supported.
