[Bug 299900] [NEW] nm-connection-editor throws tons of errors
Public bug reported: Hi all! I have upgraded from hardy to intrepid, i saw there that the old network-admin has been replaced by nm-connection-editor, which obviously has some serious flaws: first of all i get no network applet in the menu bar so i cannot pick a network there allthough iwlist scan shows them. so i have to MANUALLY add a wifi connection in nm-connection-editor, after that i have the applet and in it i see all of the surrounding nets. but then all of a sudden i can ONLY connect with the wifi connection as all of a sudden the wired connection does not recognize any nameservers anymore unless i MANUALLY add them to a completely empty /etc/resolv.conf. i have to directly add them to /etc/resolv.conf as i get an error in nm-connection-editor when attempting to add a second nameserver that it is being executed read only. and there is no unlock button anywhere in sight as in network-admin. my wired connection has static settings and wifi is dhcp. further if i execute nm-connection-editor from a shell with sudo (i was hoping to so circumvent the read only problem) i see the following errors in the shell: ** (nm-connection-editor:17762): WARNING **: No connections defined (nm-connection-editor:17762): Gtk-WARNING **: GtkSpinButton: setting an adjustment with non-zero page size is deprecated and when trying to edit the namesservers in the nm-connection-editor i get this for every single character that i type: ** (nm-connection-editor:17762): WARNING **: Invalid setting IPv4 Settings and then after clicking ok comes a error message window stating: updating connection failed: nm-ifupdown-connection.c.82 - updating connection not supported (read only) i consider this to be major bugs so please be so kind and fix this asap! thanlks in advance! ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- nm-connection-editor throws tons of errors https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/299900 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 383084] [NEW] autofs doesn't start on boottime and "ghost" option is being ingnored on HP machines
Public bug reported: hi folks! I have the problem that autofs just doesn't start during system startup. There is no what so ever error message in none of the logs and I can start it without any problems with "/etc/init.d/autofs start". Autofs has a link in /etc/rc[0-6|S].d, I have tried to put those entries to way higher values than ldap and networking but to no effect. This problem ONLY occurs on Hewlett Packard machines, i.e dx2400 and dc7900. Our Fuji-Siemens Workstations f.ex. have exactly the same setup and there it works just fine. Further (also only on the HP machines) the "ghost" option is completely being ignored; as far as i understand this option the folders that are supposed to be mounted should be shown but only mounted on access. They do NOT show, but they are there, including content if you access them f.ex with ls -l /backup/office, but ONLY if you use the full path. ls -l /backup returns "total 0" Please let me know what further information you want me to provide in order to be able to solve this! [Bug 347788] [NEW] OpenVPN client does not recognize WLAN connections
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openvpn Hi folks! This seems to be a common sight according to several threads i found on google, and btw. since several Ubuntu versions: OpenVPN client connects perfectly as long as there is a cable attached to the computer. If you try to use the WLAN connection that doesn't work. According to OpenVPN's documentation the operation system should take care of the selection of connections, and basically this works for almost every application, like for example Firefox. Unfortunately it doesn't for OpenVPN. Please fix this as soon as you can as it is really crucial for road warriors... [Bug 347788] Re: OpenVPN client does not recognize WLAN connections
ok, i am starting to understand, what you meant by "more information on the configuration": i have defined the LAN connection during installation of intrepid, and of course i can see it in network-manager as eth0. checkbox "system setting" is enabled there. the vpn is not configured in network-manager as i am using pkcs12 (ie. *.p12) certificates which are currently not supported by network-manager. the vpn is not being established automatically during system startup, but i have installed openvpngui, which is a very simple to use taskbar applet that uses the config files in /etc/openvpn and that allows to select between several different configs. this implies that all routes should practically be there, as i of course gnome needs to be running in order to use openvpngui. btw. the wireless connection is also not being started automatically during system startup, but i connect manually through the network-manager taskbar applet. the reason for this is that i run from one institute to another and all of those of course have differen networks... please see the attachment for information on the daemon.log ** Attachment added: "log.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24326067/log.txt -- OpenVPN client does not recognize WLAN connections https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347788 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 383084] Re: autofs doesn't start on boottime and "ghost" option is being ingnored on HP machines
Dear Chuck! Here's what i can do for you: As mentioned above i put a line "/etc/init.d/autofs start" into /etc/rc.local but this did not work anymore since some updates last week, so I put a "echo 'ifconfig` >> /tmp/bla.txt infront of that line and i saw from that that the ethernet interface did not have an ip-address at that time, of course the ldap communication then does not work so good... As I haven't concerned myself with upstart yet I cannot tell how to solve this properly, however I have a quick and dirty solution to this, I put the following line into /etc/rc.local; (while [ ! -f /var/run/autofs/_home.pid ]; do /etc/init.d/autofs start; sleep 10; done) & As you can see this while-loop tests if the pid-file for autofs exists and if not it keeps trying to start it in 10 seconds steps. [Bug 383084] Re: autofs doesn't start on boottime and "ghost" option is being ingnored on HP machines
Hi Chuck! All of these machines run Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 and are configured to use dhcp ips where the lease is configured to never expire and the machines also have a reserved ip, meaning always the same one. So from a technical point of view it is dhcp but practically the ips are static... @ghost option, basically yes, but you believe that the ghost problem won't go away when the autofs problem is fixed? thanks and your's, firebug -- autofs doesn't start on boottime and "ghost" option is being ingnored on HP machines https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/383084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Dear Steve! I know, it is hard to get a proper documentation on the paramters in /etc/pam.d/common-password, but according to what I found, for example here: https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/C/user-management.html the max= switch should do EAXACTLY what I described above, and what you described should be accomplished by the maxlen= parameter. Hi Steve! Well... I can even attempt to set a six character or eight charakter password, it won't accept it. It did not accept it BEFORE I MANUALLY installed libpam-cracklib, which was NOT installed per default. If i set the min= Parameter to for example 4 I still cannot enter a six digit password. And after all not only the length is being checked as it appears but also what charakters it contains. On ceretain occasions I get things like 'password strength is "weak"' and so it won't set the password. But as far as I can see that does not come from pamlib-cracklib as I installed that manually after some googling in the hope that I could influence the password criteria then. Currently libpam-cracklib is NOT set in /etc/pam.d/common-password and it still completely ignores the min=4 parameter! [Bug 675475] [NEW] display resolution for external monitor cannot be set to anything higher than 640x480
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Hi guys! I have a Fujitsu E8460 Laptop infront of me with an Nvidia graphics card. If I try to switch to an attached beamer by pressing Fn+F10 I do get a picture on the beamer except it is completely blown out of proportion. Apparently I do have a 1360x768 resolution in a 640x480 pane, meaning that i have to scroll the picture arround in this pane. Within nvidia-settings in the menu item "x-server display configuration" I can set the resolution for the external monitor to 480x320 or 640x480 or auto or off. that is it. And in "Panning" I can put whatever I want... Also the driver does not recognize the externeal device at all, as it is being called "CRT0", it is a Panasonic PT-LB55NTE Beamer. I guess this is why I don't get to see any other resolutions? How can I circumvent this? For example by setting the values' range manually? We would be very grateful if you could look into this as soon as possible as we are talking about a productive device here that is being required urgently! [Bug 671332] Re: changing pwd strength criteria in /etc/pam.d/common.password takes no effect at all
Dear Steve! I am afraid I overlooked the 'obsure' completely... It really did the trick! PLEASE accept my apologies for having caused this fuzz completely needlessly... BUT - to my defence - the documentation and help pages on the net really confused me (remember the maxlen= switch? I meanwhile found that one in /etc/login.defs...) AND still, the max= option seems to be completely ignored when obscured is set... not useful to set these two in combination... Please feel free to set the thread to "RTFM more carefully" or anything alike now! Thanks once more! [Bug 634839] Re: package postfix 2.7.0-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Hi Clint! Nope, none of the above, /etc has completely normal acces/ownership attributes and no hardening, no SELinux or what so ever. Bad thing is I have been tinkering around so much meanwhile that i don't recall with 100% certainty if it was due to the file not existing at the time... If i recall this correctly after purging sendmail /etc/aliases and /etc/aliases.db were gone, and after "touch"ing it manually and reinstalling postfix it worked. I hope that gets you further? excuse me chuck but why would this be invalid? do you consider postfix to "behave properly" if it just crashes over a non existing /etc/aliases? I am just saying that it requires about one line of code to fix this, something like if [! test -f /etc/aliases]; touch /etc/aliases; ... (or so i am not familiar with bash scripting...)? your's firebug -- package postfix 2.7.0-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/634839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
