Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 8.10, I experience serious problems with Freemat (installed from official repository). The application starts OK, but when I open the script editor, message about improper font pops up. When I change the font in the setting, the freemat just freezes when exiting the editor (the editor window stays opened, but does not react, and so does also the main freemat window). If font settings are not changed, exiting the editor results into the infinite loop of wrong-font-setting-warning dialog. I tried to change font setting in the freemat conf files, but i did not fing the proper place. I can confirm this happens also with Battle for Wesnoth and FloboPuyo (fglrx + compiz enabled). Almost surely it is a compiz related issue. I have disabled the desktop effect off and the unprompted swithching of "games" to windowed and back to the fullscreen does not occur any more (i have again tried flobopuyo and wesnoth). i think i have the same problem but with the wired interface and i'm running ubuntu 9.10 karmic. I tried everyone of the solution proposed except for the kernel patches wich are not specific for my hw. please fix this soon i often use suspend and is very annoying to have to reboot eachtime to be able to use ethernet. I have a similar problem with the same ethernet controller (Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 15)). It happens that after resume from suspend my ethernet adapter stops working and i can rely only on wireless networking. i have tried everything from ifconfig to reloading the kernel module sky2 but with no succes. I have to reboot to bring my ethernet up again! I'm running ubuntu 9.10 karmic; had no prob with 9.04. I upgraded from 16lts to 20lts by reinstalling over / and maintaining my /home after booting everything works fine, but after installing my usual programs and a further restart touchpad did not work anymore so I am forced to use an external mouse via USB. actually touchpad is alive at login but stops a couple of seconds after starting. I reinstalled ubuntu 20 again but the same happened. I have the same issue: the tablet works but is not detected by System Settings. Is there a workaround, should I wait until the bug is fixed, or do something else? [Bug 1630526] [NEW] Desktop Pager sets layout depending on panel size + icon size
Public bug reported: The workshop layout is controlled by the default Desktop Pager Item. They way it works is that it checks the size of the lxpanel and the icon size, and sets the workshop layout accordingly. Thus the workshop layout in Lubuntu, as long as no other pager is present, depends exclusively on the panel size and its icons. This is not only counterintuitive, but also unhelpful since the workspace layout should definitely be independent on what the size of the panel and icons are. Since the code that controls the layout seems to be pretty simple (it should be in the `on_realize` function within the `pager.c` file), it would be cool if one could control orientation and rows manually via configuration of the pager, rather than from lxpanel layout. Whether the workshop representation is useful or not if shrinked to fit is not really important, since that is the responsibility of the user to find out a configuration that he/she likes. I see this is still filed as Importance: Undecided and it is yet to be assigned. I'd like to make the case that its importance is quite high, in that it makes the chat component of pidgin-skype unusable. In some instances, when the conversation is just starting, one notices that the chat window has opened empty, and if one knows about this bug, one can ask the other party to re-send their previous message. While this is highly inconvenient, and leads to all sorts of questions that usually end up making Linux look bad, it's not necessarily always critical. In other instances, however, where the window is already open, one has no clue that a message has been lost. The uncertainty this creates makes it necessary to resort to the chat window in Skype itself. It also means leaving the Pidgin window open too (otherwise it will spring open constantly), thus perpetuating the uncertaintly cycle. Please take this view into consideration and raise the level of importance. Then, do: $ cat /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method to check what method you're machine is using It will very probably answer 'profile' If so, you can change the content of /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile to low, mid, auto and see what happens. I did that two days ago, and it's worked very well so far. I haven't modified the necessary config files to make the change persistent through reboots, though. I mean, this method is like putting a ball & chain on your leg to keep you from running, and I'd like to do some experimenting first, perhaps even dynpm, once I understand a bit more of how that might affect things. I can confirm this bug in a fully updated 11.10. I've spent a few minutes testing it and found the following: 1. Any document created from within LibreOffice gets represented correctly in both Launcher and AL+TAB. 2. Some pre-existing documents do NOT appear in the Launcher or ALT+TAB and do not use the global menu when their window is maximised. This behaviour is the same regardless of how they are opened, from within LO, directly from Nautilus or from an attachment in Thunderbird. 3. It appears that whether or not this happens depends on the provenance and age of the file itself. Not all .docs are created equally. Same here, Dell Studio XPS 16, HD Radeon 5670: Under 11.10 open source driver works very well except for extremely high temperature and constant, unbearable fan noise. Thanks to try to help me, I am usuary useless level and one crowds to me. I have a HP-Compaq-6735s, with processor AMD Sempron SI-40. The antenna is a 4312 Broadcom BCM 802.11b/g LP-PHY. The installed version is Ubuntu 11.04 Before the last update the antenna worked with privative controller, but after updating and reinitiating the antenna does not ignite and in the controllers it does not appear to me nor like option. I believe that with the actulización one has changed to 64 bits, because I cannot either see videos, requests me that it updates pluguin of adobe flash and when going to the update is the one of 64 bits. As I wrote here on comment #31 I was able to remove tearing enabling the Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint, the Sync to Vblank options on nvidia server settings and setting the compiz fusion icon to start at boot with indirect rendering disabled( I think this works as the compiz --replace comand suggested in the workaround on comment #45). I have a laptop with a geforce 8400m g nvidia graphic card and I always had this tearing problem. In Maverick I've managed to partially solve it enabling Sync to VBlank both in the nvidia settings and compiz then ,always in compiz, i enbled the undirect fullscreen windows (I think it's called like this), installed the compiz-fusion icon and set it to start at boot with indirect rendering disabled. With all this I didn't have tearing with moving windows or compiz cube. There was also no tearing when watching videos at full screen. I tryed all this on natty ( with 270.41.06 nvidia drivers) but tearing on videos was still there, the only thing I found out that solves the problem is to enable the "Force full screen redraw (buffer swap) on repaint" option in the workaround settings ( always in compiz). Probably it's not the best solutions since the description tells: "Forces the entire screen to redraw every repaint. Use with care, this will cause a massive increase in GPU and CPU usage.". Unfortunately I can't run the command you suggest; or more precisely I can but the system I am on is no more the same as it was when the bug was created. This bug is several years old and applies to lxpanel before LXQT, it may be possible that it's not interesting anymore.
