[Bug 252213] [NEW] kchmviewer won't open files when file path includes media:/... or system:/...
Public bug reported: I've tried opening chm files in both Konqueror and Dolphin via kchmviewer and when the path to such files includes a media:/ or system:/ , it can't open them. It will however open files when the actual path to the files such as /media/sda5/ebook/chmfile is used. I think that this could be a regression that has appeared in Kubuntu 8.04 (KDE 3.5.9) as there's a similar bug #29738 at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kchmviewer/+bug/29738 which has been marked fixed. uname -a Linux 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Fri Jul 11 23:41:49 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux -- kchmviewer: Installed: 3.1.2-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 3.1.2-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 3.1.2-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status -- konqueror: Installed: 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.2 Candidate: 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.2 Version table: *** 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.2 0 500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7 0 500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages - ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: hardy kchmviewer kio regression -- kchmviewer won't open files when file path includes media:/... or system:/... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252213 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime
Mark Shuttleworth responded to a question from somebody who obviously was aware of this issue and brainstorm idea http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/15153/ [Canonical And Dell Should Issue Official Statement About Hard-Drive Killer Bug] on the #ubuntu- classroom IRC channel on Freenode today. [jcastro aka Jorge Castro was moderator. sabdfl is aka Shuttleworth]. Pasting the transcript here for commentators: -- 15:39 jcastro QUESTION: Does Canonical ever make "Official Policy Announcements" on contentious issues? Two recent controversies were the hard drive wear issue and the issue with the Intel network cards being bricked. Are there official guidelines on what should be done when Ubuntu can possibly damage hardware? 15:40 sabdfl yes, we have a process for handling emergencies and screwups 15:40 sabdfl including making sure that we communicate clearly about what the situation is 15:40 sabdfl unfortunately we have that because there have been emergencies, and we have in the past occasionally screwed up 15:40 sabdfl but i think the policies are good 15:41 sabdfl i don't think such an issue is contentious - if we make a mistake, we need to sort it out, and keep people briefed -- I think we should be pretty optimistic about hearing an official statement soon! wuhoo! :) PS: couple of other hardware compatibility questions were relevant too such as: -- 16:25 jcastro QUESTION: The hardware database mentioned earlier seems limited to certifying whole machines. Yet few wireless vendors would see the point in submitting their hardware for certification unless there were already a database to be added to. [Bug 190168] Re: Please rebuild kmplayer with NPP support
This workaround does the job very well. It's not perfect though. For example, playing flash radio on last.fm doesn't work. There's another problem too. Maximizing flash videos to full screen is buggy. :- 1.Go to youtube.com 2. Open up a video 3. Maximize video to full screen. 4. It works Now do the following: Repeat steps 1 and 2, then before step 3 click on the KDE Panel. The KDE Panel covers the lower portion of the video. A workaround for this problem is to enable hiding the KDE Panel by: 1.Right Click KDE Panel 2.Goto Configure Panel 3.Choose the appropriate hiding settings from the Hiding section None of these problems occur with Firefox. -- Please rebuild kmplayer with NPP support https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190168 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 174343] Re: Flash player 9.0 r115 crashes nspluginwrapper in Konqueror
I have Kubuntu 8.04 LTS (KDE 3.5.9) . Konqueror handles flash video erratically. Flash works flawlessly on some sites but on others like dailymotion or youtube, all I get are grey boxes with sound. Is this possibly related to http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdebase- runtime/faq/webbrowser.html#id2558174 ? [QUOTE] 9.13. Why does Konqueror display a plain grey square when I try to view flash animations, even though the flash plugin is installed? [Bug 186312] Re: kaffeine doesn't use mplayer even if it's installed
@zolle: In Kaffeine's Handbook on Kubuntu 8.04 LTS look at Chapter 2. "Player Parts" . Apparently Kaffeine can either use xine or gstreamer . [Bug 184149] Re: [hardy]xembed and flash support patches doesn't work for konqueror

[Bug 184149] Re: [hardy]xembed and flash support patches doesn't work for konqueror
@ Rashad: My Kubuntu 8.04 LTS is the 32 bit version. I just discovered something quite interesting about youtube videos. When I view them through http://video.google.com , flash plays perfectly - there is both picture and sound. The same videos on youtube.com however, come up as grey boxes with sound but no picture. Maybe something to do with the way youtube (and dailymotion, etc.) embed flash videos on their sites? Also I happened to stumble upon this from KDE docs:- http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdebase-runtime/faq/webbrowser.html#id2558174 ? [QUOTE] 9.13.
