Doing the following solved the problem for me: 1.Uninstall the google toolbar 2. sudo apt-get install libnspr4-dev libmozjs-dev (libstdc++5 wasn't installed and neither were libxul-dev nor gcc-4.1 . I had gcc-4.2 and it worked.) 3. Reinstall google toolbar
