[Bug 665796] Re: Intel Core i7, nVidia proprietary - Timer interrupt freezes, system becomes sluggish
I think i have found a fix for my interrupt timer freeze, but need more testing to be sure. After having tried several kernel boot options without succes (irqfixup, irqpoll, noapic) i ran into this 2 year old thread: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8300 which suggests clocksource=acpi_pm in the last post. After booting with this option dmesg noted: Override clocksource acpi_pm is not HRT compatible. Cannot switch while in HRT/NOHZ mode, and cat /sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/current_clocksource still returned: tsc But strangly enough it did seem te fix the problem. I ran the system for 2x1.5 hours without problems with heavy io and audio/video, which would normally trigger the problem within 15 minutes. I compared dmesg's and 2 mem ranges seem to be slightly different. After digging up some more information about clocksource i changed it to hpet, since my bios supports 64bit hpet. And this also seems to work. Running for 3+ hours atm. Seems to be the best option anyway since my bios supports it. I also tried to disabled hpet in the bios and boot without clocksource, but the problem was still there, but i guess without the option it is not using it as timer as default (yet?). ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #8300 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8300 -- Intel Core i7, nVidia proprietary - Timer interrupt freezes, system becomes sluggish https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/665796 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 665796] Re: Intel Core i7, nVidia proprietary - Timer interrupt freezes, system becomes sluggish
Problem still occurs with clocksource boot options, it just doesn't seem to get triggered by my testcase. With clocksource option it takes about 5-6 hours before it first occurs with testcase running, however after the first occurence my testcase seem to trigger it very fast again (under 5 minutes). Well anyway since my testcase is a real world case for me it, it's some progress. But i guess it's not really useful for anyone else. The problem also doesn't exist in newer kernel's btw. But my system has problems with several crashes with 2.6.36 mainline, 2.6.36 natty sauce, 2.6.37-rc1 natty sauce. [Bug 1242217] Re: package mumble-django 2.9-2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1
Same for me, had a working install on unbuntu server 13.04. Even purging the package fails, i had to comment the db_purge from the postrm script to be able to purge it. But even after purge/debconf purge/removing related python packages it will still give an error on reinstall and needs db_purge to be commented again to be able to be purged again. It does however install just fine on a other servers upgraded to 13.10 which never had mumble-django installed. And my servers are puppet managed so there should be no difference between installs. [Bug 865686] [NEW] 11.10 libvirt-bin upstart script doesn't shut down vm's
Public bug reported: 11.10 has an updated /etc/init/libvirt-bin with code to shut down VM's. However it seems that upstarts doesn't wait for the script to end and just reboots the machine while the VM's are still being shutdown. Others who use a custom vm shutdown script already noted this problem with upstart, however i couldn't get their solutions to work: http://askubuntu.com/questions/36855/upstart-pre-stop-killed-during-shutdown http://sebastian.marsching.com/blog/archives/112-KVM-and-Graceful-Shutdown-on-Ubuntu.html I tried setting a kill timeout as suggested in the first link, but that seems to be ignored. The first link also recommends using "stop on starting rc RUNLEVEL=[016]", but this is already set in the new version of the upstart script. So why is it being killed? ** Affects: libvirt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/865686 Title: 11.10 libvirt-bin upstart script doesn't shut down vm's To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/865686/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 865686] Re: 11.10 libvirt-bin upstart script doesn't shut down vm's
I already reinstalled the test systems with 11.04 so i can't send logs anymore. acpid was installed on the VM's and shutdown was confirmed by both the shutdownlog and visual confirmation of the VM's shutting down. One test VM was a ubuntu 11.04 desktop install that pop's up the gnome shutdown dialog with a 60 second timeout. The host reboot/shutdown would happen without the timer actually decreasing. I tried to run the script manually, after commenting out the first runlevel check, and the shutdown worked fine and waited for all VM's to be shutdown before exiting. (After setting a higher timeout, as 30 seconds is not enough for the 60 second gnome timeout). But after some more testing i got the idea it was actually a general upstart problem as it didn't wait for corosync to shutdown as well. The system shutdown happends about 20 seonds after issuing the host reboot/shutdown command, which seems to be some upstart timeout. (And i did test without a corosync/pacemaker/drbd setup to make sure it also happens with libvirt/kvm only). Maybe something went wrong with the update from 11.04. The conversion to /run was also not done right by the upgrade and i had to fix that manually. So maybe it's related to that. The systems where pretty fresh though. They where installed with 11.04 last week and fully updated. After i ran in to some issue i tried the upgrade to 11.10 to see if it would help and ran into this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/865686 Title: 11.10 libvirt-bin upstart script doesn't shut down vm's To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/865686/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 921609] [NEW] virtio_net hangs guest on reboot
Public bug reported: I've had this bug for some time now. From ever since i started to use KVM on 10.04 until now 11.10 and all versions in between. Also on numerous hosts with different hardware. And with both linux and windows guests. VM's are working fine, but on reboot they hang. They have to be running for some time though. VM's running for 10 days or more have a 90% possibility of it happening. But it almost never happens on freshly booted VM's. Also when a VM hangs in boot, 1 core on the host goes to 100% cpu and virt-manager can not connect to the host anymore. When already connected to the console of a linux guest with virt-manager (since you can't connect anymore when it's hanging), you can see the kernel boot hang right before virtio-pci would normally load virtio_net: [0.865019] virtio-pci :00:03.0: irq 42 for MSI/MSI-X [0.865044] virtio-pci :00:03.0: irq 43 for MSI/MSI-X [0.865069] virtio-pci :00:03.0: irq 44 for MSI/MSI-X 00:03.0 is indeed the virtio_net: 00:03.0 Ethernet controller: Red Hat, Inc Virtio network device Sometimes after a long wait time the VM does boot, although i can't really confirm that now since it's been a while i actually waited and not just kill it right away. But we're talking about hours. Fastest i've ever seen it happen was more then 30 minutes. And i've seen cases where a (non critical) windows server that got rebooted by windows update hung for more then 1.5 day before i killed it. [Bug 448095] Re: resolvconf starts after ifupdown, does not pick the dns-nameserver and dns-search lines up from /etc/network/interfaces
Bug present in 11.04 natty aswell. Most of the times resolv.conf is empty expect for 2 remarked generated-by-resolvconf lines. Only about 1 of 10 reboots resolv.conf will get filled correctly with dns-* data from the interfaces file. Please fix this, correct dns info is pretty important for servers which do not use dhcp-client. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/448095 Title: resolvconf starts after ifupdown, does not pick the dns-nameserver and dns-search lines up from /etc/network/interfaces -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly
#68 worked for me as well, also on ssd. Strangly enough though the problem did went away for me at some point, not sure when though as i used a kill/restart gnome-settings-daemon startup application and harly use nautilus. I just noticed that right click was right again and disabled the start script. Then when i installed the 260.19.12 nvidia drivers last week the problem came back. -- Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/649809 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 658379] [NEW] Maverick AMD64 Theme settings not recalled
Public bug reported: Theme settings are not recalled / unstyled themes after installing nvidia-current on a fresh 64-bit 10.10 installation with a nvidia 8800GTS 640. Tried twice to make sure: Install, reboot, wait for hardware driver popup, install nvidia-current, reboot. Also reported on forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1587238 (see screenshot) http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1588909 I also had the same problem on 10.10 beta/rc after the xorg 1.9 update. Only about 1 of 25 boots the settings would load. Thought i fsck'ed the xorg update and was not expecting to see it again in the 10.10 final. [Bug 641174] Re: xorg.conf.d mouse acceleration options ignored
To clarify, i do not use any other package of the x edgers PPA. I only got the newer version of xserver-xorg-input-evdev from that PPA to see if it would fix the problem, which it did. I also tested it on an up-to-date Lucid install with xserver-xorg-input- evdev 2.3.2-5ubuntu1, and found the same problem. Seems like xorg PointerAcceleration is missing from the 2.3.2 version(s), and was added in 2.4. -- xorg.conf.d mouse acceleration options ignored https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/641174 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
