rebooting will not fix the problem. it is between cups and whatever is printing. I thought the newer hplip drivers would solve this, they only delay the enivitable. the HPLIP drivers do allow for full photo color support, by default this is broken as well. I have better luck with pdf files and OOfice to get the system to print,. otherwise I get : operand stack: nostringval on the printout and cups just stops printing with an error. apple has similar issues with cups, even though it is THEIR code base, however, I have yet to NOT print correctly for Tiger or Leopard.[except for the photo color issue] -- Ubuntu 8.10 printing is broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/326949 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 228233] Re: All GL applications flicker when Compiz is being used
this may be related to the nvidia flicker issue.THIS , although said it was fixed, has not been. changing the theme [from ORANGE] DOES NOT fix this. the issue seems to be with compiz, which by default is enable as 'desktop effects'. is there a permanent way to disable these effects? i like the bouncy window and all...but I really like a stable OS, and looking at my titlebars. another thing: for mplayer, set your refresh to other than 75 or 60 if possible.the mplayer flicker goes away.mplayer has a sync issue with sync at 60 and 75 native refresh rates.I noticed this when I was watching MI-3 and thought it was a poor rip.the issue went away when I adjusted my rate in the gnome panel.[not the nvidia panel] seems this may be a OpenGL issue as well, but I don't see it myself. Now I have adjusted my rate, so try that first. Its the same issue on debian. -- All GL applications flicker when Compiz is being used https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228233 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[assuming because the keyboard handler code is overwridden, as well as video] this is a SERIOUS BUG. it affects both QEMU and BOCHS, as they use the same video bios code base. NO, I'm programming weird shit in assembler. I'm building Project FPOS, which uses proper IRQ and interrupt table settings, as any NORMAL OS would. this only affects the said system if key is pressed during the grub loading process during normal PC boot. ** Affects: qemu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Visibility changed to: Public ** Summary changed: - int 10 not wired correctly + qemu and bochs video and keyboard not wired correctly -- qemu and bochs video and keyboard not wired correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 51573] Re: Please update HPLIP to 1.6.7
This file (attached) was pulled from HPLIP's website it is the latest. Ubuntu ibex is a full release version BEHIND. Reason I mention this is I was on the email with HP for about 3 hours trying to diagnose the issue with my older than dirt 932c that still runs.. seems the issue is that graphix from any source, as I'm printing at default resolution, not photo quality[although it prints the same either way] dithers the image down to 16 colors [or less] and creates a moire striped pattern that is hard on the eyes. photos seriously look worse than ass. the internal printer test page comes out fine. Windows prints NEAR photo quality. updaing to latest HPLIP fixed the problem. Now linux once more[I dont know where the bug is, linux HAD this kind of quality before] prints photo quality and prints graphics properly. OSX suffers as well because of out of date and misconfigured CUPS.This isn't an issue an end user can solve, well up until now it wasn't. Now if apple could get off thier asses and fix this, that would be wonderful. please keep ubuntu as up to date as possible, its bleeding edge and all, but this is a printer I have had for close to 10 years and nothing but the CUPS issue has caused it to mis-print.It would seem that somewhere along the line older printers got abandoned.I'm sure I'm not the only one with an older HP lying around. I don't have an issue with build or install with Ibex. Current drivers have usually been the issue with Linux's not the other way around.I really don't understand what caused this issue. My printout SHOULD look as good as my screen, if not better.I can get lab quality 'wet' prints out of this machine if I wanted to.I have a photo of the same hanging on the wall from a few years ago. the ink notification isn't working with this version, but seemingly as the photos come out ok, I really don't care. I can tell when I'm out of ink. ** Attachment added: "HPLIP current drivers" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/22917425/hplip-3.9.2.run -- Please update HPLIP to 1.6.7 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/51573 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 332241] Re: nautilus "folder sharing" fails to share a directory
you still probably need samba installed. every should work out of the box. I KNOW. try the nvidia drivers . do you get 180 yet? samba is linux' file and printer sharing. without it -it doesn't work. it doesnt matter how many GUI apps you make, they all rely on samba package being installed. install the server, not the client. that WILL solve your problem. configuration is in the admin drop-down menu under system. sorry, but this is the way it always has been. some things never change with *nix boxes. -- nautilus "folder sharing" fails to share a directory https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/332241 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

8.10 doesn't have it yet. at least on base install, which is were you see it most often. Jackalope still shows partially as Ibex, so I never bothered with installing it[fully]. from what I can tell, it DOESn't find it either. it is IN the repos and DOES install, but you have to dig for the answer. do us all the favor and put a note in the release for 8.10 and re-submit the ISO. shouldn't take but a few minutes to do. building the ISO I mean. compiling always takes a while. :-) -- Titlebar incorrectly drawn with geforce 5/6/7, compiz and human-theme https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/99508 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 332258] [NEW] ubuntu default permissions on install set wrong
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: Binary package hint: coreutils please set default permissions on /bin /sbin and /lib in such a way to prevent new users or installs from damaging CORE files needed to keep the OS alive. I used chattr +i , which is like attrib -w in dos, but done as root. I also temporarily reset permissions on updates, as some packages need access. I have yet to see the system crash from doing this, but by not doing this you run a heavy risk. Even the most experienced user can take down ubuntu in seconds from a careless mistake. This setting prevents such actions. maybe proper chmod permissions would do, this is just MY personal fix, as I often have to use sudo to do things. if you drop a file in the wrong place, you can take down a debian or related install in seconds, and there is NO UNDO. windows will at least WARN you, if not undo itself on next reboot. save us all some headache, please. not all of us are home users. Just because I am, does not make this MY problem. I'm sure a lot of net admins or small businesses would be thankful. True this has been a problem for some time, but since UBUNTU has one of the more larger user bases, growing by the day, it would make sence to put some end-user safeguards in place. Re: [Bug 492914] Re: pulse audio and skype dont work
Whats even MORE annoyming is that yall assume that if it works for ONE it works for ALL, and Im sorry to say that the entire linux userbase is rather upset due to the piss poor state of pulseaudio. At least for canonocals' sake it would be prudent to look into it. I dont have an 'in' jack on my notebook. otherwise I might use the 'normal' headset. Both of these were working before, so I really dont get what was changed. Like I said, it works with previous releases. I said I couldn't quote 64 bit as I wasn't running it.some 64 bit users have had issues. i know its not the usb headset, as it works with anything before 9.10.[so do the ps2 headsets, though I DO recall a moment in time formatting my drive for OSX due to the inherent USB audio glitch permanently disconnecting the Playstaion2 USB headset. something about only slot available is configured, but it wouldn't work. required a reformat to fix. I think it has something to do with one of the updates above IBEX. I dont remember which one exactly it was, as i had to jump to Koala, as I couldn't get a stable Jackalope PPC build working.] Yeah, for some reason it jumps forwards in time with Koala when recording. > Well, that's weird. [Bug 260722] Re: Please update virtualbox-modules for 2.6.24-21 (copy to updates together with kernel)
this is affecting qemu as well. I do OS development and am halted due to this. OSX is also affected by this. will try to update my cross linker tools for OSX, but if I cant emu test stuff that triple faults without taking down the OS(host) I CANNOT solve the problem within mine so it doesn't triple fault. Drivers seems to be affected by this as well. My usb audio (ps2 headset) got knocked off and wouldnt come back due to 'forced' updates for the kernel. True users have an option of not upgrading, but who wants to leave a security hole wide open? I agree on the debian is more stable, but for some reason, I keep getting enviroments like 486-linux instead of 686-linux and cant build anything from scratch.(and I have the dev tools installed properly). I have limited bandiwdth (5GB) I cant DL the debian repos every time i need a stable OS. Im using both a mini(ubuntu 8.10) and a PC(OSX). *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 120834 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120834 THis has NOTHING to do with RSS FEEDS! Which LAME brain came up with that IDEA? Furthermore.what is with the attitudes here on this forum that COMMUNITY BUG REPORTS with VALID DATA are being treated as garbagevery unprofessional I might add. I dont care what language you program in. If you dont like your day job... find another. that out of the way This is a INTEL MESA BUG. The updates, I get from ppa from crack-coders and it updates ok several times a week..better some 3d than no 3d, but the 3d/mesa drivers dont work. Better to go software in this case, which unfortunately requires a reinstall of xorg and ubuntu-desktop packages and on intel systems and SEVERELY DEGRADES performance. With a nVidia or ATI(mind you both have proprietary 3D acceleraltion packages), software rendering is not an issue, but a performance hit. On notebooks such as these(and my Gateway/Acer LT21) this software mode makes rendering next to impossible. It is the DRI/Hardware acceration modules of MESA/OpenGL that crashes X11. If you enable the x11 ctrl-alt-backspace keyconfig and kill xorg with 'top' as root you can weasel your way back to a working system on the Gateway/Acer. The keyconfig is under the system gnome panel. I dont understand... Why cant everyone use a darm VESA 3 API and just get over it? The specs are out and I have them. something to do with maverick. Stay with 9.10 or 10.04. i seem to have the best like with my usb 305 lightning here. The issue is NOT dialing for me. I can dial. It took some diagnoses and a pppd script to get some info. You can start by copying the /etc/ppp folder to your normal mounted drive from the live cd. CHmod it 777 for now. (I dont feel like messing with groups) That said. I tried it three ways. 1) Throught the wifi menu on top of gnome...flat out fails and disconnects. 2) sudo pppd call gsm (with some slight modifications) ...get strange error saying ppp headers turned on and disconnecting... 3) gnome-ppp ...this works until after it dials, when it needs pppd to work. I've tried copying pppd and the libs and the config files all from the live 10.04 disc, which works. I get the same place. on 10.04, I added in the driver from sierra wireless and it seems to work ok. apparently the kernel only provides half the driver on 10.04. ls usb: Bus 001 Device 007: ID 1199:68a3 Sierra Wireless, Inc. see here is my problem. this worked before. Can someone update the status on this? gst-launch v4l2src ! xvimagesink and derivatives like it work. Its cheese that hangs. I have a gateway LT21 with Chicony (internal) Electronics webcam. Noticed that 640x480 is maximum input, 320x240 is standard setting.(well in windows 7 anyway, which has been removed) Maybe cheese sets this too high on startup??
