[Bug 306344] Re: intrepid static ip address reverts to dhcp after boot

2008-12-08 Thread cornbread
Steps to encounter the problem: set static ip in network-manager, used
computer then put into suspend mode. Next day I take out of suspend and
network is either not connected or says it's connected and isn't really.
can't ping anything.

Behavior expected. I expected it to save my static ip settings.

Behavior encountered: Reboot and static ip is gone and it's set to
dhcp.

unbearable. Reminds me of dialup days but for local transfers.

[Bug 156177] Re: offer to create a separate /home partition

2009-06-23 Thread cornbread
@Evan

There is no need to determine size for /home and for /

You simply offer to create 10 GB for root and if there is between 512MB
and 1.5GB ram you offer to double that for swap and if there is 2+ you
offer to equal the size for swap and just make those values changeable.

EX:
"Ubuntu recommends creating a separate /home partition, typically a user would
only need 10GB space for / and XGB for swap. Would you like to use the
following configuration?"
(make these user changable)
[10 GB] /
[X GB] Swap

Very straight forward and won't confuse a newb as it is ubuntu
recommended.

In fact I would first greet with an option to:
1. Keep existing OS and install Ubuntu along side (as dual boot)
2. Just install Ubuntu (you will have the option to migrate your data if you
choose this setting)

VERY SIMPLE AND EASILY UNDERSTANDABLE
IMO less confusing than being greeted with a large bar that is all one color
and options that people don't understand. JUST TELL THEM WHAT IS RECOMMENDED
FOR THE TYPICAL USER

This guide has worked every time i've seen this issue:

IMO it should be done by default with a simple Fix Video Drivers button

hmm... I think there needs to be a connector to the hardware DB that
people post fixes for individual laptops. Then you can choose which
laptop you have and download all the fixes.

We could have trusted community hardware testers for the fixes and when
you first boot up it will tell you that you are running a laptop and to
click here to see if there are any enhancements for your laptop.

[Bug 139648] Gutsy edubuntu ltsp clients having compiz-fusion issues

2007-09-14 Thread cornbread
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Buckle your seatbelt for the explanation:

I have an x60 tablet that runs compiz-fusion fine with gutsy on the
local installation. I have a Gutsy edubuntu ltsp server that I want my
x60-tablet to use. I have gotten ltsp to run fine and my client logs in
and works great as far as I can tell.

I have told my x60 thin-client to take it's previous xorg.conf setup by
making a file for xorg and telling my
/var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf to make my client use that
xorg.conf file as its own.

When I log in it properly uses my xorg.conf from my verified compiz
friendly xorg.conf. After typing compiz --replace to run compiz I
receive this error:

grep: /var/log/Xorg.6.log: No such file or directory
grep: /var/log/Xorg.6.log: No such file or directory

I am doing this to test my server for my office setup where I have 6 nicer
computers with verified compiz-fusion friendly hardware that I would like to
run compiz-fusion on via ltsp.
in #ltsp ogra and sbalneav are familiar with my scenario.

Thank you for the hard work.

[Bug 138204] Re: ltsp-build-client

2007-09-18 Thread cornbread
i think i'm having the same problem. Running edubuntu gutsy at the end
of ltsp-build-client --arch i386 on an amd64 box it will sit
indefinately at "Info: updating inetd config" until i press enter a few
times then this happens:

Use of uninitialized value in string eq at
/usr/share/perl5/Debconf/FrontEnd/Passthrough.pm line 109, line 1.

info: LTSP client installation completed successfully

but inetd.conf never gets updated.

[Bug 133262] Re: brightness stays at 100% when plugged

2007-08-23 Thread cornbread
This stays 100% when using the brigtness buttons even though the meter
goes down. But will never go down below about 20%. When i open the power
managment preferences it changes however it goes back to 100% when i
close PMP.

I can fix this sometimes by unplugging and plugging back in the power a
few times when pushing brightness down buttons.

[Bug 135420] brightness does not stay bright/dim

2007-08-28 Thread cornbread
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Brightness does not stay at selected brightness level. Level always
reverts to what is set in gnome power manager after x minutes.

IE if i dim my screen brightness to lowest possible using buttons and in
gnome power manager it is set to 100% on batteries it will resume 100%
after unspecified amount of time. (dim when idle is unchecked)

The same happens when the settings are reversed. (still leaving the dim
when idle unchecked)
