[Bug 210630] [NEW] Gutsy version of NTFS allows improper characters in file names

2008-04-01 Thread carltonh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ntfs-3g

When I rip music to ogg files in ext3, Characters like "?" or ":"
question mark or colon are allowed and fine in ext3, and Ubuntu 7.10
allows these files to transfer as is to an NTFS partition, and they
continue to work as if legitimately named in the NTFS partition while in
Ubuntu. However, Windows XP does not acknowledge these as legitimate
characters, and when the problem is in a folder title, Windows XP is
unable to access the files within the folder.

That said, is a sense if used properly, this might be a feature as much
as a flaw, creating files or folders that Windows cannot access...but I
assume this is not intentional.

[Bug 821212] Re: dropbox crashed with IOError in __init__(): [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/lib/dropbox/dropbox.tar.gz'

2011-08-24 Thread carltonh
This happened on the upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10, on August 5th.
However, subsequent updates have made it work fine in Unity, xfce, and
gnome-shell again. So I think the problem can be marked fixed.

2010-09-24 Thread carltonh
Public bug reported:

On this laptop, with Ubuntu 10.10 beta (though 10.04 was the same) the
wireless will occasionally crash/disconnect under moderate transfer
loads. Then it will not reconnect without a reboot, although sometimes
leaving the wireless switch off for 5-10 minutes before turning it back
on will allow Ubuntu to reconnect. Note that this laptop does not have
the same problem with Sabayon Linux running the 2.6.35 kernel.

One more note, in case it makes a difference: Sabayon working fine is
running KDE, and Ubuntu 10.04 or 10.10 having the problem is running
GNOME.

[Bug 741133] Re: gtk-window-decorator crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_draw_window_decoration()

2011-08-12 Thread carltonh
I believe this bug in Oneiric maybe related to GTK3 or Gnome3 apps. In
most apps, if I hold down Alt then hit F, I pull up the file menu. This
works in Firefox, Seamonkey, and LibreOffice, but not in Evince and
Nautilus. I manually activate the file menu with my mouse and that
works, then I try to move my mouse to the Help menu to choose About to
see what version is currently in Oneiric, and then the popup window that
would show it crashes and only shows the outline of the box.

[Bug 532451] Re: Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 6050 series wireless does not work

2010-06-26 Thread carltonh
I know this fix is not supported officially, but I thought I'd at least
report that upgrading to the packages in lucid-proposed caused the
laptop to run in low graphics mode when booting the new kernel that uses
the fix.

The laptop was running the Nvidia proprietary driver for a NVS 3100
before the fix. I went ahead and installed every update in lucid-
proposed, but still am stuck in low graphics mode.

[Bug 586355] Re: Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version

2010-06-20 Thread carltonh
Agreed, reboot solves the problem. So update should have been marked as
"restart required", but at this point I think the bug should just be
marked resolved.
