I know this fix is not supported officially, but I thought I'd at least report that upgrading to the packages in lucid-proposed caused the laptop to run in low graphics mode when booting the new kernel that uses the fix.
The laptop was running the Nvidia proprietary driver for a NVS 3100 before the fix.
