[Bug 218499] Re: after fsck, bootchart -> rsvg-convert makes computer slow
I just got hit by this. Between trackerd and rsvg-convert my dual core processor with 2GB of ram was rendered useless for over 10 minutes. It took me that long just to figure out wtf was going on. I had to reboot since rsvg-convert was un-interruptible. I have / on one partition and /home on another if that matters. The /home partition contains 188GB of data. [Bug 64905] Mp3 metadata (ID3 tags) are corrupt
Public bug reported: I'm using Sound Juicer 2.14.4 on Ubuntu Dapper and when I rip mp3s the ID3 tags are corrupt. I have viewed the files in various tag editors. Ex Falso/Quod Libet shows the correct metadata but with binary characters at the beginning of each field. EasyTAG doesn't show any metadata at all. Audio Tag Tool is able to show both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags for a file and it does not show any metadata either. I have viewed various mp3 files in a hex editor and the metadata is there, at the beginning of the file (so this means they are ID3v2?) and the fields all have 1 or 2 characters at the beginning. The first character, if present, varies but the character just preceding the actual metadata is always '03'. I have also reported this bug on the Sound Juicer bug system but please backport Sound Juicer 2.16 to Dapper because 2.14 is barely functional. ** Affects: sound-juicer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Mp3 metadata (ID3 tags) are corrupt https://launchpad.net/bugs/64905 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 37671] Re: rhythmbox need support for easy-codec-installation
This feature is still very much needed. I just updated my laptop to Gutsy beta and pulled up Rhythmbox to play some music shared on my desktop computer with avahi/firefly. Playing an mp3 doesn't even show any message at all but if you examine the song properties then there is a message about codec support. I think the argument that users will only browse with nautilus and double-click music files is naive at best and avoiding the real issue at worst. This is with gedit 2.18.1 in Feisty. I'm not sure what you mean about attaching an example. I attached a screenshot. Do you mean a sample text file? I'm playing with creating a sample now and have discovered a few things. 1. Around 4100+ characters (on a single line) the text becomes invisible for a while. It does not wrap but simply is cut off in the display. The cursor still moves through it though so it must be there. 2. Around 40K characters switching syntax highlighting is a huge mistake (the entire desktop froze so long I thought it was hung). -- Very long lines wrap on themselves becoming unreadable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113246 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 113246] Re: Very long lines wrap on themselves becoming unreadable
This sample does not show the wrapping problem shown in my screen capture but does demonstrate 2 other symptoms. 1. Sample line 1 is 4225 characters long. Pressing the 'end' key on that line will show no text at the cursor but moving the cursor back to 4100 something will cause the text to suddenly appear. 2. Sample line 2 is 29569 characters long. Moving the horizontal scrollbar will show the text of this document truncated at a certain point and repeated with large gaps of nothing inbetween. I have an SQL sample with only 9K characters on a line which is showing the wrapping symptom but it is in french and contains a lot of accented characters so I cannot be certain if that is a factor. Syntax highlighting does not seem to be the main cause because I see the problem with no highlighting and with any other syntax though it does suffer under these conditions. ** Attachment added: "Sample text file" http://librarian.launchpad.net/7687360/sample.txt -- Very long lines wrap on themselves becoming unreadable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113246 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 202243] [NEW] Web monitor should use modified headers
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: specto I'm using Specto 0.2.2 in Ubuntu Gutsy. According to the google specto docs, the web monitor uses file size (presumably the "content-length" HTTP header but perhaps it checks the string length internally) to know if a page has changed. Ideally, the "Last-Modified" HTTP header should be used to determine if a page has been modified. This is because pages which contain, for example, a table of data which doesn't change in size but changes in value may not have a different content length but should be returned with a proper "Last- Modified" header. Further, it is recommended to use the "If-Modified-Since" header to minimize data transfer. Use of the ETag header may be necessary for cases involving proxies and caching servers. [Bug 111061] Re: Wine use Windows colors instead of Ubuntu colors
I'm going to step out on a limb here with some opinion. The theme that Linus, or even Mark Shuttleworth, is irrelevant. So is discussion about Kubuntu or any other *derivative* distribution. The default theme in Ubuntu is "Human" and apps that do not support metacity/gnome themes (like Wine and Qt) should have some similar themes added to at least make an effort to integrate well with the default theme. I've had this problem since Fiesty release. Bootup takes about 4 minutes. I keep hoping the next kernel update will fix it but no dice. I've tried adding "irqpoll" to the menu.lst boot options but that has no effect for me. Bug 96826 seems to be related to a cdburner but my computer does not have a Lite-on burner, only a regular cdrom. MB: Asus P4S8X HD: Western Digital 320GB IDE (on primary IDE interface) (I recently upgraded but had same issue with last HD) CDR: Aopen CD-952E (on second IDE interface) In addition to trying the irqpoll boot option, I've tried disabling the cdrom and turning off the "Plug and Play OS" bios option (workarounds reported in other bugs). If there are other workarounds I haven't found them. I was hoping yesterday's kernel update would be the one to fix this problem but instead it just broke my menu.lst. It completely removed my windows dual-boot menu option, changed the Ubuntu root back to hd0,0 but it's now on hd0,1 since the hard-drive upgrade, and the UUID is back to the pre-upgrade volume ID. It seems like it replaced some backup version of the menu.lst file to what it was after install but how can it do that? Anyway, that's all off-topic but it pisses me off just the same.
