[Bug 250488] Re: WinFast DTV2000 H rev. J not recognized

2008-11-14 Thread VladimirCZ
Was this fix applied also to the 64-kernel?
Is this fix included in the final release of 8.10?

Note: I cannot tune any analog broadcasting in the TVtime ...

[Bug 346187] Re: Screen blinks to desktop when OSD message appears over fullscreen window

2009-06-16 Thread VladimirCZ
OK, "manzur" I think we share the same vision of targets. I just wanted
to point out that dropping compiz might be waste of much work and
resources, but I am frank to admit to know only a bit about the OS
architecture, thus perhaps taking over (or better integrating) of
cleaned compiz code into gnome is not technically possible and the
alternative branch of development should be prefered. As I said my
remark was mainly economic by its motivation. Anyway, thank you for your
replies.

[Bug 48412] Re: Disk detected as unallocated

2009-06-24 Thread VladimirCZ
I have the same problem in Ubuntu 9.04 64bit.

I am booting from /dev/sdb1 ... BIOS (hd0,0)
The drive reported as unallocated is /dev/sda... BIOS (hd1,0)

In fact the /dev/sda is partitioned as:
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 16527524280967 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda26920 38912 256983772+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/sda56920 1932099610969+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda3 19332 38912 157284351 83 Linux
And I can happily access both linux partitions sda3 and sda5 via Nautilus
automounting (line a "removable drive").

What is wrong?

2009-06-16 Thread VladimirCZ
Cleaning and merging of compiz code is a good idea. But let me know that
one of the most criticized feature of KDE 4 is their compositing which
is far behind compiz. Gnome has other area where they should aim their
capacity, e.g. management of mime types and association of applications
to them, merging cluttered settings apps in Preferrence and Appearance
etc.

[Bug 379119] [NEW] file-roller does not recognise windows cp1250 encoding

2009-05-21 Thread VladimirCZ
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

Recognition of windows cp1250 encoding fails at archives compressed
under MS Windows into .zip or .rar format of compressed container, but
works well with .7z archives.

Examples attached:
1) Latina.7z ... compressed with the latest 7-zip software under MS Windows XP
SP3
2) Latina.zip ... compressed with the latest 7-zip software under MS Windows XP
SP3
3) Latina.rar ... compressed with WinRar 2.5 (no unicode support) software
under MS Windows XP SP3
The file-roller for
1) 7z: works well
2) zip: extraction done properly, but accented characters are replaced with "?"
2) rar: extraction produces unusable files, when there is an accented character
in the path or in the filename of such files.

Detected under:
Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit with non-free unrar installed.

Thank you for sorting out this problem.
Let me ask you about the performance with the ".zip " file:
Have you made some special settings that could effect recognition of encoding

[Bug 351510] Re: me-tv unusually slow, often freezes

2009-04-25 Thread VladimirCZ
I am still using the version 0.8.6 and after some experimenting it works
well.

The problem with freezing for a long time happened after installation at
first start when I imported a config file containing 25 channels and the
database was being filled with the EPG data. Then the EPG and Sqlite
caused the me-tv being irresponsive and grayed. After a minute or so
about I killed me-tv. Then I had to purge the ~/.me-tv/ folder etc.

As Michael Lamothe was indicating he could not reproduce this behaviour
and he is the developer I decided to install libsqlite3-dev
(development) package and started the me-tv again. This time I let it be
grayed for a few minutes. Then I minimized and unminimize it. After that
the me-tv gui returned to colour mode and since then I can use it. It is
hard to say what helped: the development package or subsequent long
waiting for the initial database filling ...

When I started the me-tv first time today it grayed for about 10 seconds
(updating the database I guess) and since then it works without a
problem.

[Bug 281949] Re: no bluetooth after kernel update to 2.6.27-7-generic

2008-10-23 Thread VladimirCZ
1) In my first message was a small inaccuracy. In fact my USB bluetooth
with KY-BT100 chipset worked well in original intrepid beta installation
but lost its full functionality after upgrading to newer kernel.

2) I can pair mobile phones to my PC, but only when I start pairing from
a phone to be paired. Unfortunately after pairing there is no "mounted
phone icon" on a desktop / in nautilus and I cannot browse the mobile
from PC even neither through the bluetooth applet "browse" option.
Instead a message appears always with some delay - please, find it
enclosed.

3) The reset=1 does not work for me.

[Bug 288287] [NEW] False copy dialogue in Gnome commander

2008-10-23 Thread VladimirCZ
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-commander

When I want to copy a file between two root locations of two different
partitions (none of which is the Ubuntu system partition) there appears
a false dialogue asking whether I want to create the destination folder.
Both partitions are properly mounted as "removable medias" and fully
accessible in Nautilus (I mean read / write is enabled for the current
user). This happens only when I want to start copying by pressing F5 or
clicking the "F5 Copy" button. Drag and drop copying method works well
without this dialogue.

[Bug 230811] Re: virtualbox does not redraw background in seamless/compiz mode

2008-06-10 Thread VladimirCZ
I can confirm the same with virtualbox-ose (1.5.6) on 64bit hardy.

In addition to it: When I minimize any MS Windows application its window
stay on screen and its title bar is dim (windows is inactive). When I
scroll to another workspace and then back the orphaned window residuum
is not there anymore.

!!! After I switch off compiz effects the Virtualbox seamless mode works
without problems. !!!

I have tried to switch off only some compiz elements via CompizConfig
Settings Manager (like Fading Windows, Animations), but with no positive
effects - I mean both above mentioned failure modes have not
disappeared.

[Bug 268502] Re: Bluetooth association no longer works

2009-02-03 Thread VladimirCZ
I can confirm that there is no improvement after all upgrades and
everything I wrote in the bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/281949 is still
valid:

My USB bluetooth adapter worked well under Hardy.

Under Intrepid the Bluetooth manger can only detect connectible devices
in neighborhood, but any attempt for pairing them (when pairing is
started from PC) is unsuccessful - there appear no dialogues for "key"
both on my PC and mobiles. But I can pair mobile phones to my PC, when I
start pairing from a phone to be paired. Unfortunately after pairing
there is no "mounted phone icon" on a desktop / in Nautilus and I cannot
browse the mobile from PC even neither through the bluetooth applet
"browse" option.

I have tried to connect two Nokia phones 6021 a 6310i. (Note: under
WinXP it still works => no hardware failure)

2009-03-18 Thread VladimirCZ
Brian & Stefan,

Thanks for your work.

Brian's proposed patches and a test kernel based on them work well with

Details:

OS Ubuntu 8.10 beta 64-bit (2.6.27-11-generic)
Patches from at http://people.ubuntu.com/~smb/bug268502/

Notes - what I did (I am not much experienced user ...):
1) Installed the right .deb of the patched Intrepid kernel.
2) rebooted
3) reinstalled all bluetooth related packages via Synaptic.
4) rebooted and profiled my kernel
5) rebooted

I have no problems with timeouts. Everything works as it used to in Hardy.

[Bug 230811] Re: virtualbox does not redraw background in seamless/compiz mode

2008-09-08 Thread VladimirCZ
I have found a work-around effective even though the Compiz is running.

The principle (for M$ Windows running in the seamless mode under
VirtualBox):

"As long as you keep some M$ Windows application window open you can
minimize and restore other Windows applications without any problems
with their proper redrawing. "

To reproduce that you may try and install e.g. the following little analog
clock into your Windows virtual machine:
 http://www.gljakal.com/clock/index.php
The clock will stay running and visible on the Gnome workspace where you have
the seamless desktop. An all other apps windows will work right.

Perhaps, this can also help to track where this bug has its cause.

[Bug 158309] Re: [gutsy] ntfs usb hdd not mounted in kubuntu

2007-12-05 Thread VladimirCZ
I remember I faced the the same problem after having installed the
Kubuntu 7.10. If I am not mistaken this was the complete procedure how I
reached a good solution:

1) I Plugged in an USB drive formatted ntfs and waited till the drive's icon
appeared on the desktop.
2) Then I Right clicked the icon, chose Properties -> Permissions and
unchecked Mount as user (=No) and Mount automatically (=No) and saved the
changes.
3) Then I safely removed the USB drive and plugged it again.
4) The icon appeared on the Desktop and in all applications like Konqueror,
Krusader ... (the icon of unmounted USB drive)
5) When I left clicked on it for the first time in any of the above mentioned
programs it was mounted read-write for me as user.
6) When I safely removed the drive its icon did not disappeared but only
changed back from "mounted drive" to the "unmounted drive".

This mounting behaviour described in points 3 to 6 is stable from then.

(It would be interesting to know if it works for other users in the same
way.)

[Bug 558734] Re: OpenOffice Calc crashes at start

2010-04-09 Thread VladimirCZ
I have solved the problem. It looks like that incremental (day-by-day)
updating my installation of Lucid from Alpha 3 up to Beta 2 caused some
inconsistency in configuration.

I have uninstalled (not removed) all openoffice related packages via
Synaptic, then installed basic packages via Ubuntu Software Center and
then added gnome integration files and language support files via
Synaptic.

Since then, no crashing of Calc or any Openoffice application on start.

[Bug 532211] Re: Text Address bar missing in nautilus

2010-03-13 Thread VladimirCZ
Richard Ssekibuule wrote on 2010-03-09:
"Default option is fine, but non-power users should be given the option of
clicking an icon to bring back the address."

I would add that for some tasks it is easier to use the text bar (you
can copy a long address in it) and for some the button bar (when
searching through sub-folders of one folder). Switching the bars via
gconf-editor is not enough flexible, but rather annoying.

I wonder, why for some people a decision that one option will be the
default automatically means that switching to other options is probably
not needed. Similar scheme applies to tabs at bottom (now back on top) -
this should be rather an option in Preferences of Nautilus.

[Bug 532047] Re: Plymouth text-mode splash causes X to crash on first run due to shared tty7

2010-03-07 Thread VladimirCZ
Pressing Enter causes a crash. This effects me too. It happens:

a) At first login after I press the Enter key. Then there is a crash and
I am back at the login screen. Then after the second login the Enter
works properly.

b) After first login when I avoided to press the Enter and used a mouse
click on the Login button instead. Then I am logged and after pressing
the Enter there is a crash and I am back at the login screen. Then after
the second login the Enter works properly.

[Bug 532047] Re: Plymouth text-mode splash causes X to crash on first run due to shared tty7

2010-03-09 Thread VladimirCZ
I followed the Steve Langasek's instructions:
1) purge and install the plymouth package
2) checked the /etc/init/ folder and found a few new plymouth related files
that had not been there before
3) restarted PC and faced the same double loging problem
4) then executed: sudo mv /etc/init/plymouth-splash.conf
/etc/init/plymouth-splash.conf.disabled
5) restarted PC and the workaround works since then = single login

But a questions stays: Why there were not the plymouth related files before?
In Synaptic the package was marked as installed, but the files were missing.
I just installed Alpha 3 64-bit and then updated it several times.
I made no operations via terminal that could remove the files.
So it must have been some installation / update bug ...

[Bug 461358] [NEW] Me-tv ignores a change from dayligh saving summer time

2009-10-26 Thread VladimirCZ
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: me-tv

I live in the Czech republic. Last Sunday there was one hour shift in
time values (at 3:00 am back to 2:00 am). Unfortunately Me-TV EPG
ignores that and shows old time values, the same as before the shift.
When I want to schedule a recording I have to add one hour to the
proposed value of start time. Recording then works well.

I tried to erase all files in the ".me-tv" folder, scanned once again
channels etc. - but with no positive effect on time values.

[Bug 461358] Re: Me-tv ignores a change from dayligh saving summer time

2009-10-28 Thread VladimirCZ
I must apologize. The reported problem is not probably a bug, but a
result of poor time-transition management of one multiplex that
broadcasts at Prague. Switching of EPG values from CEST (Central
European Summer Time) to CET took one day for some stations, but will
take yet a few days for remaining ones. So at present I have in Me-Tv
mix of true and wrong time values depending on station. Luckily this
effects only area at and around Prague; and it is a temporary mess.

[Bug 289939] Re: Gedit encoding autodetection fails on all cp1250 files

2009-10-21 Thread VladimirCZ
I think that I have found the cause.

If you use gconf-editor and navigate to the key
"/apps/gedit-2/preferences/encodings/auto_detected" then you will see a
chain of encodings which are considered during auto detection. When I
did so, I could see that any encodings for the Czech language were
missing even though I had installed complete Czech language support via
System -> Administration -> Language support.

1) Workaroud:
--
a) find the right encodings:
Start gedit -> Open -> Character encoding "button-list" -> Add and Remove. Here
you can add encodings that will be added to the "button-list". Select and add
all that you intend to use. Then press OK and then close gedit.

b) add the encodings to the autodetection key:
Start the gconf-editor, search for
"/apps/gedit-2/preferences/encodings/auto_detected". Under the key
"auto_detected" in the key "shown_in_menu" you will see all encodings that you
added in the previous step. So, double click the key "auto_detected" and add
the same encondings to this key. Then you can sort them e.g. like "UTF-8, ,"

That is all. For me it works well.

2) BugFix
--

I assume that local encodings relating to a language installed through
the language support should be automatically added to those two encoding
keys of gedit, because the user probably writes and reads in more
languages and will need it.

[Bug 289939] Re: Gedit encoding autodetection fails on all cp1250 files

2009-10-21 Thread VladimirCZ
That is true. And at the moment it is not a bug but rather an
inconvenience, because when a user installs additional language support
(especially spell-checking) it is probable he or she will have files
also in these additional languages.

Perhaps, these auto-detection encoding options should be included into
gedit "Preferences" with the same dialogue window that is used for
adding encondings for file opening. Or eve better both gedit keys
"auto_detected" & "shown_in_menu" could be editable via "Preferences" in
this way. That would be helpful and would save time of users ...

Anyway, thank you for your responses.

[Bug 432205] Re: [MASTER] pppd timeout when trying to establish a DSL connection

2009-10-30 Thread VladimirCZ
Will the tomorrow's build be available also for 64-bit?
As I can see there have been some other problems at compiling it ...

Anyway - thank you.

[Bug 432205] Re: [MASTER] pppd timeout when trying to establish a DSL connection

2009-10-31 Thread VladimirCZ
 I just installed network-manager from https://launchpad.net/~network-
manager/+archive/trunk to Karmic 64bit and I can make DSL connection via
nm. Thank you for your effective fix. Well done !

Let me have a few questions / remarks:

1) I have manually commented out sections created by pppoeconf in
/etc/network/interfaces in order to have only the following section effective:
#
# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
#
Is it all right? Is it enough?

2) There is again the problem of "insufficient privileges" when one
wants to edit any already existing DSL connection with the "for all
users" range of effect. Then after this alert nm applet behaves like it
has crashed and restarted.

[Bug 1274320] Re: Error: diskfilter writes are not supported

2014-03-29 Thread VladimirCZ
I also get this message.
/ and swap volumes are on ext4 LVM, and no separate /boot.
Booting works fine after the delay or key press.
