2009-01-29 Thread Vishal
Thank you Steve, as you said, /etc/shadow doesn't have $1$ or $6$.
It contains few alphabets followed by colon and numbers (sorry I'm new to
linux).

I changed the password using passwd

but still /etc/shadow contains the same characters. (alphabets and
numbers).

Does Wine installation and later uninstallation create any problem.

I doubt this statement, because I never entered wrong password before
installing wine. After wine installation, appearance of my fonts on
websites has changed and they are same even after uninstallation.

[Bug 206404] Re: trash is not being updated in gnome

2008-04-16 Thread Vishal
Another account of Trash not being updated. Upgraded to Hardy yesterday
with all the updates done.

1. When I delete a file, the trash icon remains empty and on "Emptying
Trash" the files delete permanently. But when I right click on the trash
icon (as in the screenshot) the "Empty Trash" dialog remains.

2. And on multiple attempts on deleting files, the trash icon obeys and
shows it contains some files yet the 2nd problem still remains (as in
screenshot)

[Bug 164269] Re: [Gutsy] Grub takes time to load

2007-11-21 Thread Vishal
1. It clearly takes 1-2 minutes between the BIOS and GRUB. I have
attached the image. Here the monitor remains blank and the monitor's LED
blinks.

2. Mind here, this problem occurs only on restarts and not while turning
on the computer for the first time.

3. I have never come across this problem neither with Feisty nor Edgy
nor Dapper. Right from Day 1 with Gutsy, I got this error and it occurs
randomly. And on further consequent restarts, the problem persists.

Public bug reported:

I have a dual boot XP/Ubuntu Gutsy. I installed Gutsy freshly on my
system, and the Grub menu (from the boot to the Grub) takes a lot of
time (about 1 to 2 mins) to load esp. on system restarts. Thereon, I
have a normal boot. I tested the same on Feisty and I did not have any
problems. Here is my system configuration:

RE: [Bug 126916] Re: GDAL hdf/netcdf build problem

2009-09-05 Thread vishal
Hi,

this problem is not yet solved. typically i dont update to new releases
very often because things just keep breaking and i am not expert enough
in Linux to fix them well. so when i find a release that mostly works
for me, i like to stay with it.

when i do update i will certainly let you know, since i use the gdal
library a lot. its really quite important to get this bug fixed - at
least for scientific geospatial needs...

cheers,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Does that clear your error?

[Bug 1288196] Re: MAC address of bonding interface is randomly picked

2016-05-31 Thread Vishal
I'm facing problem of interface selection during data Rx. I have
configured two bonded interfaces bond0 with IP 144 and bond1 with IP
122 when I do scp of a file to theis system using either of the IPs it
always selects one bonded interface(say bond0). And when I reboot the
system it sometimes changes the selection of interface to the other
bonded interface(say bond1). But I want the IPs to always refer to the
respective bonded interfaces. Is it possible?? if yes, the How to do
that??

xf86-input-evtouch - 0.8.8-0ubuntu2+thjaeger1 but the same problem
occurs. While calibration (and also during normal use) the min/max/x/y
numbers printed on screen don't change when tapping/moving the stylus
around, the taps themselves are registered but the position is
unrecognised.

Still no luck, attaching xorg.1.log again which was run with the -thjaeger2
version of the package, thanks for looking into this!
Same issue, taps are registered but the min_max.cur_x (large negative value)
and min_max.cur_y (zero) numbers remain unchanged where ever I tap or move the
pen...

[Bug 317127] Re: evtouch calibrate tool does not detect mouse position

2009-03-11 Thread Vishal Rao
OK, some progress! When I did a package update it got the thjaeger3
version, then I only restarted X (gdm). Now the taps were also going to
the right locations and the cursor following the pen movements! Except
the calibration was off a little. So I tried running the calibrate tool
and it would immediately return to the main session (with a quick text
flash which I think is the standard warning that you have another X
session running).

So I rebooted my tablet, but now again the taps have again lost the
ability to detect the position and the calibrate tool fails to run. It
worked before the reboot. Could it be some HAL fdi files conflict with
some other (evdev maybe) packages?

Attaching an archive with 2 xorg logs, one when attempting to run
calibrate after reboot, the .old one was run before reboot but just with
an X restart... let me know if other info needed.

[Bug 317127] Re: evtouch calibrate tool does not detect mouse position

2009-03-11 Thread Vishal Rao
OK calibrate works with the cursor in current directory, but only the X
axis (horizontal) portion is correct. The Y axis shows max as 6998 but
doesnt get reset to the actual max which is displaying as 3939. Plus I
think the min Y is also off... as a result tapping the pen anywhere on
the screen and the X (horizontal) position is correct, but the Y
(vertical) position of the cursor remains near the top third of the
screen in a small margin...

[Bug 317127] Re: evtouch calibrate tool does not detect mouse position

2009-03-11 Thread Vishal Rao
Ok, I edited /etc/evtouch/config and changed the MaxY from 6998 to 3939
and restarted X/GDM but no luck - probably something to do with the
d(x/y) numbers. But I rebooted and reran the calibration and this time
it also detected the MaxY and apparently as a result also set the dy
values much better... still not 100% accurate (few pixels off) but much
better!

[Bug 317127] [NEW] evtouch calibrate tool does not detect mouse position

2009-01-14 Thread Vishal Rao
Public bug reported:

I'm running Jaunty (alpha3-ish) on an HP Pavilion tx1302au tablet PC.

The calibrate tool that comes with xf86-input-evtouch 0.8.8-ubuntu1 runs
but does not seem to detect mouse position, only the taps are
registered.

As a result, after calibration, tapping anywhere on the screen results
in the pointer going to the top-left corner.

Attaching some output and log files to the bug, please let me know if
anything else is needed...

[Bug 294523] Re: ubiquity hangs 82% done configuring apt (scanning the mirror)

2008-12-25 Thread Vishal Rao
Can this bug be converted into a wishlist?

i.e. the installer should not go online if it detects a network
connection without first prompting/asking (or user selecting a checkbox
during configuration)... yes, the installer can mention its for
important security updates but still leave the choice to the user.

There are users in countries with slow Internet access or pay-per-MB
pricing who'd like to avoid using the connection during installation.

[Bug 312098] [NEW] FTBFS: xserver-xorg-input-evtouch binary package not available for install in Jaunty due to FTBFS in xf86-input-evtouch source package

2008-12-29 Thread Vishal Rao
Public bug reported:

See https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-
evtouch/0.8.7-4build2/+build/813522

I'm testing Jaunty amd64 on an HP Pavilion tx1302au tablet PC and
noticed this package would not install even though it was updated for
new Xorg server version. Found the build link above that indicates build
failure on multiple arches.

Please let me know if any further information is required.

[Bug 268965] Re: Please upgrade to virt-manager 0.6.0

2009-03-16 Thread Vishal Rao
I'm hoping 0.7.x (and related packages) might be included in Jaunty with
its new UI and all...

[Bug 317127] Re: evtouch calibrate tool does not detect mouse position

2009-03-18 Thread Vishal Rao
I tried installing from your PPA xserver-xorg-input-evtouch based on
xf86-input-evtouch - 0.8.8-0ubuntu2+thjaeger1 but the same problem
occurs. While calibration (and also during normal use) the min/max/x/y
numbers printed on screen don't change when tapping/moving the stylus
around, the taps themselves are registered but the position is
unrecognised.

[Bug 318233] Re: bootchart showing incorrect time but correct chart

2009-02-27 Thread Vishal Rao
I got no clue. Re-installed Jaunty Alpha 5 afresh then installed
bootchart and still see the same problem... nevermind, this isn't a
critical issue.

[Bug 317127] Re: evtouch calibrate tool does not detect mouse position

2009-02-28 Thread Vishal Rao
Did a fresh reinstall of Jaunty alpha 5, the evtouch package isn't
updated and I still see the problem. I'm hoping now that Xorg is stable
at 1.6 released the evtouch package will be fixed any time now.

Can we get the "Dust Sand" mod of Dust included as well, if not already
there?

I had to comment out the cleanup of bootchart.tgz in the init script,
now attaching current dmesg, chart image and tgz files... thanks a lot
for looking at this!

[Bug 263184] [NEW] wl driver doesnt work with kernel .27-2 and broadcom chipset

2008-08-30 Thread Vishal Rao
Public bug reported:

i have an hp tablet tx1302au with broadcom wifi chipset. installed
intrepid alpha4 (amd64) and updated it to get the latest and greatest
kernel .27-2

by default the wl restricted driver is installed enabled but does not
show up in network manager.

doing "lsmod | grep wl" only shows:

wl 1085520 0
ieee80211_crypt 14596 1 wl

shouldnt it also show some "mac80211" line in there somewhere?

note: i tried wl on hardy (amd64) with this thread and it worked well
for me: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=880218

but in any case if i disable/blacklist wl and install b43 driver with
firmware my wifi works very well with networkmanager and all.

please let me know if i should be posting other output such as lspci
-nn, dpkg -l, dmesg, uname -a etc... will do that shortly...
