[Bug 261694] [NEW] kicker crashes after upgrading to KDE 3.5.10
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kicker Few minutes ago I did a dist-upgrade and noticed that KDE was updated to 3.5.10. When I restarted the session/rebooted I got this error message "The application KDE panel (kicker) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)". It also happens if I try to run it from shell, in that case I get this output: kicker: crashHandler called KCrash: Application 'kicker' crashing... Re: [Bug 250189] Re: [Intrepid] GRUB Boot mkdir / rm permission problems
I had VirtualBox installed too, and the same DKMS error messages. I removed VirtualBox without reinstalling it and reconfigured the kernel as you've done, but it didn't fix the problem. It seems there are troubles with file systems other than ext3, so I installed Intrepid on another partition. I had to install grub2 because of the 256 Inode size (Intrepid install finished with grub error 1) and manually fix drive numbers incorrectly read by grub2. Now everything seems to work fine, but it's been the hardest upgrade since Dapper. I should have sticked with LTS releases. 2008/11/18 acacha <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > More info and how I solved this problem > > At /var/log/messages there is a message That says Cannot find map file > > I change to Virtual Console. [Bug 31709] Re: K3b slow dvd burn speed
I don't think Kubuntu is the problem. The libata new standard has been implemented definitively in Intrepid, so there's no way to revert back to old ide modules and we just have to stick with ide drives recognized as /dev/sd* This means we should have slow speeds until libata bugs will be fixed. Someone compiled the old modules against new kernels and blacklisted the generic drivers, but it's been verified with Via and AMD chipsets. I've got a Ali chipset which module is pata_ali and I can't find linux- image-2.6.24-12-generic, so I can't extract the alim15x3.ko module. Take a look at this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/175022 Hope it helps. -- K3b slow dvd burn speed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/31709 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 292142] Re: DMA and UDMA issues with intrepid
I can confirm this with Ali chipset. Drive speed is set to a quarter, my CPU suffers while burning a dvd or while copying files to an ATAPI hard drive and this makes my system HANG; the little workaround sets drive speed to half, but it works just for a while, it still hangs if I try to burn another dvd. I can't flip back from /dev/scd0 to /dev/hda, cause alim15x3.ko module is missing. If you look at the related bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/213639 you'll see someone has compiled modules from 2.6.24-12 kernel (which cannot be found anymore) against intrepid kernels, but just for AMD and Via chipsets. I tried to build alim15x3 module from alim15x3.c I took from the latest kernel source, but it couldn't build any modules (MODPOST 0 modules). I just want my drives to work as expected, I'm not asking that much. It's too early to switch to libata, in my opinion. Some hardware still requires DMA. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Confirmed -- DMA and UDMA issues with intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292142 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Coming again with good news: I finally made my Sound Blaster Creative X-Fi work fine with pulseaudio! A fresh install is not a real solution, but it could let us understand the source of the problem. [Bug 250189] Re: [Intrepid] GRUB Boot mkdir / rm permission problems
Please excuse my persistence. Googling around I found that names for IDE and SATA devices were merged since Feisty (/dev/hda being treated as /dev/sda). I got this changes only after upgrading to Intrepid, and I think it's causing more troubles than benefits. I think I've set up every file: /etc/fstab, /etc/blkid.tab, /boot/grub/menu.lst, and /boot/grub/device.map but still no luck with / being mounted as read only file system. hdparm, fsck and badblocks showed no anomaly in every partition. What I really don't understand is WHY linux boots fine from recovery mode but hangs in normal mode. I've even tried setting /etc/fstab as follows UUID=1aa321e6-1d19-4b2d-9c44-2d0da26039f7 / ext3 rw,relatime 0 1 But it is just like the ro option is being forced by something I don't know anything about, but which doesn't apply in recovery mode. -- [Intrepid] GRUB Boot mkdir / rm permission problems https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250189 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Also, /etc/blkid.tab shows different drives than /etc/fstab. Thank you very much, Andreas, and sorry for mistaking the status of this bug! :P Your package is fine, I had no problem. Jay, which applets are you using other than those? You could try removing applets one by one and see if it keeps crashing (yeah, I'm wondering why i didn't do that, before...), just to make sure your dual monitor setup is not the problem. If it keeps crashing, try disabling compiz: open a terminal and type kwin --replace & I put this bug to affect kicker at the beginning, but as soon as I removed the compiz kicker taskbar it stopped crashing. [Bug 59138] Re: amule crashes when I close a tab
It also happens when closing the last message tab... so it happens with every kind of tab, but it HAS to be the last one. I always keep at least one tab open (the first one)! ;) TK -- amule crashes when I close a tab https://launchpad.net/bugs/59138 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 72228] Re: All UI text missing
It affects even NeroLINUX... other than Xmms, Audacity, and some others as well. I'm using Kubuntu, but when I switch session from KDE desktop to Gnome desktop I can see all the UI text... -- All UI text missing https://launchpad.net/bugs/72228 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 72228] Re: All UI text missing
I installed the gnome-desktop package *after* upgrading from kubuntu dapper tu kubuntu edgy. I don't see this problem under Gnome. I also changed theme from the default one to Aero (downloaded from gnome- look.org) to see if this would have fixed the problem under KDE. I still don't see anything, but in Gnome I see all the UI text with the new theme. -- All UI text missing https://launchpad.net/bugs/72228 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
