[Bug 215035] Re: Many special keys on Logitech Wave keyboard don't work

2009-07-05 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
today i tried running keytouch-config again and it seems like it actually
works, and does recognize all the extra keys (it reads the scancodes), however
it doesn't solve the problem for several reasons:
- it doesn't recognize Fn as a modifier key, and thus it makes it impossible to
directly input fn-modified keys (though this could probably be circumvented by
manually typing the scancodes captured using input-test or smth previously into
the config file)
- it seems to mess up when saving the file - for some reason the scancodes
saved into the file are only the first 3 digits of the genuine scancode (which,
again, could be circumvented using manual methods)
- given a manually created config file, keytouch does list them and allow
configuration, however it does nothing (it doesn't seem to respond to key
presses regardless of the command set). rebooting did not help.

[Bug 366931] [NEW] solver makes obvious mistakes

2009-04-25 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
Public bug reported:

the kpatience makes obvious mistakes, as illustrated in the case of gypsy.
the only difference between the two situations is that the queen and jack are
moved from one king to the other. they can easily be moved back and forth, and
yet in one case solver says the game can be won, and not in the other.
i ran the demo from the 'winning' position, and the game was lost, so i assume
it was actually true that both positions were losing.

the bug has actually been fixed in latest 0.6.5.2 version of kadu - the

of the version can be fetched here:

[Bug 232099] Re: brightness is not saved and restored correctly

2008-05-21 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
i've found out the same thing happens when you simply close the lid (when it's
set to just turn off the screen in such case) or switch to tty by ctrl-alt-f1
and back by ctrl-alt-f7 - the brightness is reset.
a funny thing happens when you do it quickly - you can see the brightness
applet showing the brightness dimmed, while the screen is at full brightness.
steps to reproduce:
1. turn down the brightness using the function keys (or otherwise, i guess).
all the way or only a bit, it doesn't seem to matter.
2. either:
a) restart computer
b) go to 'switch user' menu, and log back in
c) suspend and unsuspend
d) close the lid (making sure it isn't set to hibernate or suspend) and open it
again
e) switch to terminal mode using ctrl-alt-f1, then back to x using ctrl-alt-f7
3. brightness goes to the max instead of staying the way it was. if it's of any
importance: in b) and e) the brightness stays at the set level in the login
screen (b) ) or terminal (e) ).

[Bug 232099] Re: brightness is not saved and restored correctly

2008-05-23 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
found another similar bug, altough it may be an mplayer bug.
steps to reproduce:
1. turn down the brightness.
2. open any video in mplayer. brightness goes to the max (this may be the way
it's supposed to work).
3. close mplayer. brightness is still max, while it should go back (or not
change at all).

i'm not sure if the problem was ever not present, however it may matter that

[Bug 292471] Re: Keytouch not working anymore in 8.10

2008-12-24 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
i've logitech corded wave, and the same issue. when i run keytouch-
editor from terminal, it says there're not devices in /dev/input, and if
i run it from /system/preferences it lists some devices (and it lists
the keyboard twice), and asks me to press some function buttons on the
keyboard, but it doesn't respond no matter what i press. on the other
hand, intrepid seems to identify some of the keys automagically, but
isn't too smart about it (for example, it maps the email client to
evolution, which i have long since uninstalled in favor of thunderbird -
which seems weird, shouldn't it just map to default mail client, if
anything?).

[Bug 215035] Re: Many special keys on Logitech Wave keyboard don't work

2008-12-26 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
i tried and made an .fdi file in /etc/hal/policy to map the keys using the
codes yielded by input-events (as https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Input
suggests i should do), but it doesn't work at all..
lshal seems to indicate that the file did register and match properly, but
there's still no response in xev.
i'm pretty sure that least some of the keycodes are valid, since i previously
downloaded a keytouch file for the keyboard that maps only a few of the keys,
and the keycodes match
i attach the (not working) fdi file. it contains the key codes. i'm not sure if
the "input.originating_device" will match for other devices, i use it to make
sure it matches only to the "second" keyboard (the "first" contains the regular
keys).

[Bug 406966] [NEW] volume osd doesn't reappear

2009-07-30 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
Public bug reported:

in some cases, the volume osd doesn't reappear when it should.
tested with ubuntu 9.04, amd64 with latest versions of packages (gnome-osd
0.12.2-1).
steps to reproduce:
1. open rhythmbox.
2. minimize it to tray, so as to make it notify you of track changes via osd.
3. change volume using keyboard hotkeys (volume osd appears).
4. change track (via hotkeys or tray context menu) - track osd appears under
volume osd.
you may have to change it again in a few seconds (to prevent track osd from
disappearing).
5. when volume osd disappears (but while the track osd is still there), change
volume using keyboard hotkeys - the volume osd doesn't come up (but the volume
does change).
the reverse is not true - if you change volume after changing the track, the
track osd stays on screen until the volume osd disappears - and then it
disappears. also, in this case, if you change the track (so as to keep the
track osd) and the volume osd vanishes, it reappears correctly.

** Description changed:

in some cases, the volume osd doesn't reappear when it should.
tested with ubuntu 9.04, amd64 with latest versions of packages (gnome-osd
0.12.2-1).
  steps to reproduce:
  1. open rhythmbox.
  2. minimize it to tray, so as to make it notify you of track changes via osd.
  3. change volume using keyboard hotkeys (volume osd appears).
  4. change track (via hotkeys or tray context menu) - track osd appears under
volume osd.
you may have to change it again in a few seconds (to prevent track osd from
disappearing).
- 5. when volume osd disappears (but while the track osd is still there),
change volume using keyboard hotkeys - the osd applet won't change (but the
volume does change).
+ 5. when volume osd disappears (but while the track osd is still there),
change volume using keyboard hotkeys - the volume osd doesn't come up (but the
volume does change).

track osd stays on screen until the volume osd disappears - and then it
disappears. also, in this case, if you change the track (so as to keep the

the new version seems to work alright, except it doesn't quit when i
press esc (and it says it will). nothing ctrl-c won't "fix", though.
anyway, here's the file made more or less according to step 3 in
README.keymap.txt. i will also supply the original keymap file (in
accordance with the 6th step).

also, i'm not sure what should i do to test locally - adding the line

[Bug 215035] Re: Many special keys on Logitech Wave keyboard don't work

2009-07-25 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
i think the difference might come from the fact i have the corded variant of
wave keyboard. anyway, on my keyboard fn-f10 and fn-f11 are almost the same -
both have a magnifying glass, and f10 has "www" wrtiten under it, while f11 has
"pc".
still, i can see that some keyboards do have a battery there (just by looking
at the picture here:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/67/529&cl=us,en you can see how mine looks
here:
http://www.computerbox.hu/shop/images/logitech%20corded%20wave.jpg ).
do you have any idea what it is supposed to do (or a windows w/ setpoint to
actually check it)?

[Bug 227928] [NEW] gnomine: mine explodes after being flagged

2008-05-07 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

i flagged a mine, then clicked a 1 next to it to uncover nearby tiles
and it actually uncovered the tile i have just flagged, making me lose
the game. it's actually the first time it happened to me, and it seems
like for some reason it registered the flag for the purpose of
uncovering tiles near the 1, but not for the purpose of not uncovering
the tile, maybe because i clicked the two in rapid succession.

i'm running an up-to-date hardy on an acer aspire 5315.

attaching screenshot (notice how the tile with explosion has a flag in
it).

[Bug 227928] Re: gnomine: mine explodes after being flagged

2008-05-08 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
well, i thought i described it clearly, but okay:
1. i played the game normally, then right-clicked the tile which has a flag and
explosion in (see screenshot) to flag it, and right after that left-clicked the
tile to the right of it (marked with one).
2.
- i expected tiles adjacent to the left-clicked tile to be uncovered (iirc, the
yet-uncovered tiles were the 2, 1 and 1 near the bottom) without triggerring
the previously flagged mine.
- also, usually, when the number of flags near an uncovered tile is smaller
than the number in the tile (as would be the case if the game didn't register
the flag at all), nothing happens when you click the tile.
3. the tiles were uncovered correctly, but the flagged tile was also uncovered,
triggering the mine.

[Bug 128452] Re: brightness control usability issues

2008-05-09 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
the brightness controls seem to work at every startup now, so i guess
the bug is fixed.

martin: yeah, i think it's a different bug. it seems like the brightness
settings aren't saved properly. similiar thing happens when you suspend:
after unsuspending the brightness is set to the max, even if it was set
to the lowest before suspend. not sure if the same is true for
hibernation, as it doesn't seem to work for me.

[Bug 227928] Re: gnomine: mine explodes after being flagged

2008-05-10 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
well, after some testing i found out that the bug is not hard to reproduce at
all, so it's not quite as uncommon as i have thought, and so i guess it could
be quite annoying for some people.
steps to reproduce:
1. uncover a tile and find out where the mines around it are.
2. flag all but one of the mines as normal (preferably leave one that is on a
tile with a common edge with the uncovered tile, to make step 3 easier).
3. flag the remaining mine and IMMEDIATELY left-click the chosen uncovered
tile. the mine will explode despite having been flagged before, even if there
are no tiles to uncover. if you don't make it on the first try, you can just
unflag it and try again.

[Bug 128452] Re: brightness control usability issues

2008-02-25 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
i'm experiencing a similar problem. when changing brightness using keyboard
shortcuts, it goes bright/dim/bright/dim, though it does eventually reach
higher/lower brightness. it also goes back up some time after being lowered
after some time and after restarting monitor. it also stopped working
completely and even refused to change brightness using normal power management
tool (!) but its alright again now, for no apparent reason.
i'm using acer aspire 5315.
i would also like to point out that the bug seems to be similar to ati xorg bug

[Bug 564298] [NEW] pcmanfm doesn't show mounted devices

2010-04-15 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pcmanfm

after upgrading ubuntu to 10.04, i noticed that pcmanfm no longer shows
(un)mounted devices in the places sidebar, so i can no longer directly
access e.g. a pendrive that i plug in, or easily mount/unmount external
(or internal) drives. i'm not sure if it's intended (and i hope that
pcmanfm will be replaced with 0.9/1.0 version in not-so-far future), but
it does make it sort of cumbersome, and makes me do the stuff using
nautilus (clearly a non-solution for an environment intended to be

I installed lubuntu 11.10 (fresh install), copied all lxde config files
and it seems to work just fine.

[Bug 875064] Re: rhythmbox-client is missing

2011-12-17 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
Thanks a lot Rafael, your suggestion solved my problem. :)
Specifically, I needed those to set up keyboard shortcuts in lubuntu. They work
just fine.

[Bug 875064] Re: rhythmbox-client is missing

2011-10-29 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
I did what obadz suggested, and it solved the problem, however, because of this
I can't install rhythmbox-plugins -- the oneiric version doesn't agree with
rhythmbox, while the natty version apparently conflicts with vlc.
On a sidenote, rhythmbox doesn't appear anywhere in notification area in lxde
desktop (not even the natty rhythmbox), which it did in natty. Is that related
to bug #724369 ?

[Bug 769644] Re: lxpanelctl run doesn't work

2011-06-16 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
as for me, the problem persists (i'm currently working around it by
simply opening a roxterm tab, but it's obviously not very comfortable,
since it sort of clutters up my taskbar).

[Bug 625266] Re: no warnings on unsupported actions for some music formats

2010-10-23 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
Yes, there's still no information on the inability to edit tags on .mpc
files that I have (and I still can't edit them using rhythmbox; in fact,
for some files, the tags are not even properly displayed (yet they're
there, since easytag does read them alright).

[Bug 769644] [NEW] lxpanelctl run doesn't work

2011-04-23 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lxpanel

recently, after (but not immediately after) updating my laptop to 11.04, i
noticed that the alt-f2 shortcut doesn't work.
i checked to see if i had turned it off somehow, however, typing "lxpanelctl
run" into terminal does absolutely nothing - no output to the console, no
reaction.
gdb says that the program exits normally.
all packages are at the latest for ubuntu 11.04 as of 23 april 2011.

** Affects: lxpanel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 769644] Re: lxpanelctl run doesn't work

2011-04-23 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
i noticed that killing lxpanel and starting a vanilla session "solves"
the problem, so it probably lies in configuration. it's probably still
worth checking if it's something i've done, or a problem within some
default config file.

[Bug 669639] [NEW] lxpanel takes up cpu after restarting pulseaudio

2010-11-01 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lxpanel

i've recently stumped upon a weird bug.
i've been playing master of orion 2 under dosbox, but the sound stuttered, so
i've gone and checked top to see if anything's taking up too much cpu, but
everything was alright. thus, i closed dosbox and restarted pulseaudio, only to
find lxpanel use up near 100% cpu after restarting pulseaudio (!).
steps to reproduce the bug would probably be like this:
1. kill pulseaudio (pulseaudio --kill)
2. start pulseaudio (pulseaudio --start)

On the other hand, it does seem like the conversion actually works
properly now (at least for mpc files).

[Bug 625266] Re: no warnings on unsupported actions for some music formats

2010-10-24 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
Whiel transferring the other files, I noticed that the issue is also
present with any files on an external device (i.e. you can't edit any
tags, and there's no information or warning whatsoever). Curiously, the
“beats per minute” field is always editable, but after reopening the
settings any changes to it are ignored.

re/moving touchpad.so makes it possible to run the program, but without

[Bug 625266] [NEW] no warnings on unsupported actions for some music formats

2010-08-27 Thread Tomasz Rzepecki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I'm having a problem with mpc files (but it probably applies to some other
media formats...): when I go into properties of a file and try to change the
tags, the properrties open normally, I can select the text, but I can't edit it
– whatever i type does absolutely nothing. This can be extremely frustrating,
especially if the user is not even aware of the fact the file is in a different
format (I myself discovered it only after stumbling into the issue a bunch of
times). Similarly, rhythmbox has a feature that automatically encodes audio
transferred to an external music player into a format indicated by the
is_audio_player file, but when drag&dropping mpc files onto a player... nothing
happens! not even a prompt!
the lack of support for those actions is a big issue by itself, but I'm not
reporting it yet, since it might be an issue that can be solved by installing
additional packages, however, the fact Rhythmbox reports absolutely NOTHING
about even the OCCURANCE of the issue (not to mention explanation on how to
solve it, if possible...) is a pretty serious usability issue.
