[Bug 194927] Re: Error: Could not launch application: Not a launchable item

2008-11-13 Thread Tariq
I noticed that this problem may be expired. Just want to report that I
am also seeing it. Basically I see a small icon at the bottom bar which
when clicked says, "Could not launch application". It is rather benign
but bothers me as to what was the application that could not be launched
and how could I get rid of it.

[Bug 247079] [NEW] firefox crashed with: Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'firefox' received an X Window System error.

2008-07-09 Thread tariq
Public bug reported:

Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'firefox' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadName (named color or font does not exist)'.
  (Details: serial 1479 error_code 15 request_code 45 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 1172172] Re: Some multitouch gestures not working on 13.04

2013-05-17 Thread Tariq
"The 3-finger and 4-finger gestures now only work with a touchscreen."
First of all, not true. 3 and 4 finger gestures still work with touchpads. I am
using them all the time. Only 'some' gestures don't work. Why this selective
removal, was it part of the 'design'?
Secondly, I do not understand what harm the gestures on touchpad were doing,
that you had to remove them 'by design'?
Thirdly, why does Unity need to hard code the gestures? One can't even use
touchegg without recompiling unity.

Moral of the story, my excellent Asus touchpad deserves better. I am
moving to KDE to use touchegg.

[Bug 548956] Re: Screen randomly blanks with a "not optimum mode" monitor message

2010-03-28 Thread Tariq Khokhar
I had this problem repeat. A GDM restart isn't required to fix this.

I dropped into a console and just set the resolution to 1680x1050
manually using xrandr and it comes back fine.

Still a bug that it happens in the first place!

[Bug 548956] [NEW] Screen randomly blanks with a "not optimum mode" monitor message

2010-03-26 Thread Tariq Khokhar
Public bug reported:

Just updated to 10.04 on an Asus Pundit-R machine running an ATI 9100
IGP graphics chip.

On two occasions since upgrading via the update manager yesterday, the
following has happened:

* Logged into a standard gnome session running at 1680x1050 on a Samsung 226BW
22" TFT connected via VGA
* Several hours of light use (web, email etc.)
* Using a desktop app (mail client and a file browser)
* Screen spontaneously blanks
* Monitor displays a floating message saying "Not Optimum Mode. Recommended
mode 1670x1050 60Hz."

To resolve I pressed Alt + F4 to switch to a console (or logged in
remotely via ssh) and restarted GDM to return to the login screen.
Naturally, all state and work on the desktop is lost.

I've attached the output of apport just after this happened. As a likely
related aside, the DVI output doesn't seem to drive the monitor any more
(the monitor just sits there searching for a signal once the machine is
past POST) - DVI output worked fine in 9.10 but has since stopped in
10.04.

[Bug 1903871] [NEW] No sound from speakers after removing headphones

2020-11-11 Thread Sameer Tariq
Public bug reported:

See also https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/693742

If I plug in my headphones right after starting up my PC, I can't get
any sound to play from my speakers after unplugging them again. For some
reason if I only plug them in after a while I don't have any issues, but
I don't know exactly what makes the difference.

I've already tried suggestions from https://askubuntu.com/a/957419,
