[Bug 329909] [NEW] linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-21-generic breaks WPA-Enterprise and WPA2-Entperprise Authentication with Aruba access point

2009-02-15 Thread T_W
Public bug reported:

Ever since linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-21-generic was rolled out
onHardy I have been unable to authenticate with Aruba access point via
either WPA-Enterprise or WPA2-Enterprise authentication.

Authentication works if I either:

1) Boot the prior kernel 2.6.24-19-generic
2) Uninstall linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-21-generic (unfortunately this
caused my NVidia card to stop functioning and the system falls back to 800x600
VESA).

All subsequent updates have show the same problem (-22, -23).

Wireless card is iwl3945

Using NetworkManager. Connection attempt continually fails and
NetworkManager prompts for new key.

If I reboot back to 2.6.24-19, everything works fine.

[Bug 994093] [NEW] System Settings Window cannot be resized

2012-05-03 Thread T_W
Public bug reported:

The System Settings window sin 12.04 cannot be resized. I have
installed the MyUnity configuration tool and it has added a new option
to the "Personal" section of the settings window. This has caused the
"Ubuntu One" icon to push down to a second line and now the "System"
category scrolls off the window.

There is a scroll bar, so the options are reachable, but ideally the
System Settings window would expand so that everything fits in the
window or allow me to resize it.

[Bug 994228] [NEW] Recoll crashing during initial index scan

Public bug reported:

Recoll is crashing during the initial index scan with an error:

Recoll was indexing files in .thunderbird when the crash occurred. It
seemed to be indexing the INBOX file on disk.

[Bug 994228] Re: Recoll crashing during initial index scan

2012-05-04 Thread T_W
Thank you Jean-Francois.

The issue was fully reproducible in the GUI and always seemed to crash
in the same place. I worked around it by excluding the .thunderbird
directory from the indexing.

I will attempt to reproduce with the command line and capture debugging.

I wanted to try out the recoll lense and upgraded to the 1.17.0 version
from the PPA. I will see if the issue still occurs in 1.17.0 and
downgrade if necessary.

[Bug 1296705] Re: Amazon Prime Instant Video Does Not Work

2014-06-03 Thread T_W
I seem to have gotten this working in 14.04

I followed the standard workarounds from
http://askubuntu.com/questions/362259/how-to-watch-videos-in-amazon-
prime-instant-video

Then I noticed that apparmor was DENYING firefox some access. From
syslog:

Jun 3 22:54:17 x kernel: [194199.783739] type=1400
audit(1401850457.516:7270): apparmor="DENIED" operation="file_mmap"
profile="/usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]}"
name="/home//.adobe/Flash_Player/NativeCache/xx/x/libadobecp-301806-1.so"
pid=9145 comm="plugin-containe" requested_mask="m" denied_mask="m"
fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

So I added the following to my /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.firefox

@{HOME}/.adobe/** lrwkm,

And it started working. Looks like the 14.04 firefox apparmor profile
disrupts Flash DRM.

[Bug 1011845] [NEW] Apport dialog saying that "development is complete for the 'precise' version of Ubuntu"

2012-06-11 Thread T_W
Public bug reported:

Periodically, after the system detect an internal error, and is
preparing an "error report to help fix the problem", I get an error
message from Apport which states:

"Since development is complete for the 'precise' version of Ubuntu, you
should probably use its technical support channels instead of this
tool."

See attached screenshot.

I am not sure what the system is trying to tell me as it detected the
internal error and it is preparing the error report. What exactly is it
trying to tell me I am doing wrong?

In the most recent case, Compiz crashed.

[Bug 1011948] [NEW] Error trying to install Psychonauts from Humble Bundle

2012-06-11 Thread T_W
Public bug reported:

I am having problems installing the Humble Bundle via software-center.

I just installed Bastion, and I am now trying to install Psychonauts.
The install process seems to hang.

I started software-center from a console to debug. I am seeing an error
like the following:

It seems to be printed every second. In software-center, the GUI says
"Installing" but the Progress button does not show any installs in progress
(see screenshot).

[Bug 1011780] Re: trying to install psychonauts enters infinite crash loop

2012-06-12 Thread T_W
One workaround: I was able to 'apt-get install psychonauts' to
workaround the issue. This command was run after trying to install via
software-center.

I noticed that the 'apt-get update' ran quite slowly for some of the
private PPAs. Were there any issues with the Canonical repos last
night?

Could the quickly tool set up the environment automatically before
launching the debugger?

[Bug 1011845] Re: Apport dialog saying that "development is complete for the 'precise' version of Ubuntu"

2012-06-13 Thread T_W
I still don't quite follows what the workflow is supposed to be here.
The system detects a crash. The system asks for permission to send an
error report to help fix the problem.. and then the system tells me I
should be using technical support channels "instead of this tool".

If the system wants me to use technical support channels instead of the
tool, why did it pop up the "Crash Report" dialog in the first place?

I think there is a bug in the "Crash Report" process.

[Bug 1014084] [NEW] Cannot reboot or shutdown from lightdm

2012-06-16 Thread T_W
Public bug reported:

Intermittently I cannot reboot/restart from lightdm or from the
"Shutdown..." menu on the Unity panel.

Unlike bug #984163m, I have not installed gnome-shell and I am running
unity-2d.

I tailed the syslog and logs in /var/log/lightdm and the only thing I
saw when I attempted a reboot, were the following messages in syslog:

Jun 16 11:11:20 e510n acpid: client 10643[0:0] has disconnected
Jun 16 11:11:20 e510n acpid: client 10643[0:0] has disconnected
Jun 16 11:11:20 e510n acpid: client connected from 10643[0:0]

Jun 16 11:11:21 e510n acpid: client connected from 10643[0:0]
Jun 16 11:11:21 e510n acpid: 1 client rule loaded

The lightdm logs were silent.

It is very intermittent. Is there any information I could gather the next time
it happens to help in the debug?

Lightdm is still running. I can login, switch user sessions, etc..

The only thing that appears to not function is the ability to shutdown
or reboot the computer.

I will run the ck-list-sessions command as soon as I have another
reproduction (this is intermittent).

Interesting, I have to machines running 12.04. On one Firefox is the

up as a Recommended Application.

On the other, Chromium is the Default and Firefox is Recommended.

Does/should the "Default Applications" control panel change this

Is there a GNOME3 version of this bug report?

This seems like a good papercut.

[Bug 754508] Re: application dialogs come up on random screens in dual-monitor mode

2012-05-17 Thread T_W
I get this issue consistently w/ Unity-3D. I just tried this with
Unity-2D and did not see the problem.

To reproduce I simply open any app (LO Writer, gedit) and hit Control-O
to open a file. With Unity-3D, the dialog pops up on my other
(secondary) monitor. With Unity 2D, the dialog opens up on the same
monitor as the app is running.

My multi-monitor config was set up using nvidia-settings and uses
TwinView.

[Bug 1001059] [NEW] quickly debug crashing for quickly created ubuntu-application

2012-05-17 Thread T_W
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

$ apt-cache policy quickly
quickly:
  Installed: 12.04-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 12.04-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 12.04-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I created a simple test app using 'quickly create ubuntu-application my-
new-project'.

I can run the project fine using 'quickly run'.

If I debug the project using 'quickly debug' I can step through the
program initialization until the following line from the
Window.finish_initializing in my_new_project_lib/Window.py:

self.settings = Gio.Settings("net.launchpad.my-new-project")

When I step over this line in Winpdb, in the console window brought up
by 'quickly debug', I see the error:

/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gi/overrides/Gtk.py:391: Warning:
g_object_set_property: construct property "type" for object `Window' can't be
set after construction
  Gtk.Window.__init__(self, type=type, **kwargs)

(my-new-project:3889): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'net.launchpad
.my-new-project' is not installed

/bin/bash: line 1: 3889 Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)
/usr/bin/python "/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/rpdb2.py" --debugee
--rid=9805772 "/home/walsh/Workspaces/quickly/my-new-project/bin/my-new-
project"

And Winpdb goes into the DETACHED state.

If I try to debug the quickly generated app in Eclipse, the exact same
thing happens. In the Eclipse console I see the error

(my-new-project:4532): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'net.launchpad
.my-new-project' is not installed

And the debug session is terminated.

As to " What you expected to happen", I would expect an app created via
'quickly create' could be debugged via 'quickly debug'.

Note: The GLib-GIO-ERROR is not displayed when I do a 'quickly run'

[Bug 1014084] Re: Cannot reboot or shutdown from lightdm

2012-07-10 Thread T_W
I reproduced the problem and ran ck-list-sessions.

I see:
- 1 session representing the terminal session from which I am running the
ck-list-sessions command
- 3 "Light Display Manager" sessions. All of these have "active = FALSE".

[Bug 788428] [NEW] screen blacks out and locks up during 3d gameplay

2011-05-25 Thread T_W
Public bug reported:

I am running Lucid with a nVidia Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT 220]. I
have had this exact configuration for > 1 year and it had been running
stable.

Starting approximately 1 month ago, I began to experience strange screen
black out and lock ups when running 3d games. I have seen this with
Trine, Steel Storm, Aquaria, etc.

These lock ups seem to be accompanies by the following messages in
/var/log/messages:

kernel: [100573.805121] NVRM: os_pci_init_handle: invalid context!

Sometimes, I can log into the system via SSH. In one case I managed to
capture dmesg output while the screen was locked. I found the
following:

[92682.852528] NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 16, Head Count 3419

As I said, the system had been running very stable and I had no similar
problems w/ 3D gaming until about 1 month ago.

To try to work around this I have so far:

Enabled Sync to VBlank in OpenGL Settings
Set PowerMizer to "Max Performance"
Reinstalled Nvidia drivers
Disabled PowerMizer by adding the following to xorg.conf:
  Option "RegistryDwords" "PowerMizerEnable=0x1; PerfLevelSrc=0x3322;
PowerMizerDefaultAC=0x1"
Disabled Desktop Effects
Disabled Desktop Sharing

None of these has helped.

I can reproduce this reliably by playing Trine for 5- 10 minutes.

I have full dmesg output and output of nvidia-bug-report.sh if that
helps.
