[Bug 298562] [NEW] No wireless connection
Public bug reported: I am running Ubuntu 8.10 and I can not make a wireless connection with my router. My network and my neighbours are visible under the network-applet. When I look in the syslog, a lot of records give me the idea there are many faults. Just at the begin of the syslog you find: "Cannot find map file". The file: System.map-2.6.27-7-generic is present in /boot map. I think that this is the start of my WLAN problem. Can I fix it myself or have I to wait for a update? I have the syslog attached. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- No wireless connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298562 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks duanedesign for your reaction. I have installed Ubuntu 8.10 and I still have the same problem. I have the problem reported again with description "No wireless connection" under the number 298562. This number can be closed. [Bug 298562] Re: No wireless connection
Thanks Ted for your reaction. After reporting my problem on this site I have experimented with software downloaded from http://git.bu3sch.de/git/b43-tools.git to fix my problem. Although I was strongly warned, I have changed the hardware PCI Product Id 14e4-4320 in 14e4-14e4. You may guess the result. After reboot: no recognition of the PCI Mini WLAN Card. No creation of the file /sys/devices/pci:00/./ssb_sprom. No recognition in Windows XP. (I have a dual boot laptop). Without the file ssb_sprom you can do nothing. I work now with cable connection. Is it possible to change the Product Id back to 14e4-4320? -- No wireless connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298562 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 267841] Re: b43-fwcutter
I have followed the Linuxwireless.org instruction according to driver B43 from linux-2.6.24. First I have removed B43-fwcutter. After installing B43, the network icon on the top of my screen next to my user-name shows the wireless networks in my neighbourhood inclusive mine. After choosing my network the icon turns around but no connection. I have installed Ndiswrapper followed the instructions from the Ubuntu HowTo, but again, no success. I see no wireless networks at all. So I have installed my old Ubuntu 7.10 and now I can wireless work again with my laptop on different places. In spite of the Ubuntu community is very hard trying to connect with the Broadcom cards, I do not think my next laptop contains Broadcom cards. -- b43-fwcutter https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/267841 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 7.10 werkte mijn draadloos netwerk prima. [Bug 267841] Re: b43-fwcutter
Thanks Marlon Cisternas Milla for your reaction. I have read the page http://www.chiark.greenend... and I translate the report with more information than the Dutch one. In Ubuntu 7.10 worked my WLAN perfect. In Ubuntu 8.04 worked WLAN not. Direct after installing Ubuntu 8.04 from the live-cd with wired connection, I have clicked on the icon right above "There are additional drivers". I saw B43-fwcutter and wl_apsta installed. Everything was going normal. No errors at all. The little window "Hardware drivers" shows: Broadcom B43 wireless driver is enabled and in use. The heading shows: No proprietary drivers are in use on this system. When I click on the network icon right above I see all the wireless networks in my environment. After clicking on my WLAN the icon is turning around for a wile and then turns back to my wired connection. So, there is no wireless connection. My card is a Broadcom 4306 (Rev.03). For more data advise me how and what to do. I am a 'newbe' in 'terminal commands'. -- b43-fwcutter https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/267841 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1078922] Re: Fan runs unnecessary
Because of the fan problem in Ubuntu 12.10 I still work with 12.04 LTS. In itself there is nothing wrong with that. Until February 4, 2014. On that day, an update arrived and I installed it as usual. Later that day I started my laptop again and after a while began the fan unnecessarily run at top speed. Now I have in 12.04 LTS the same problem as in 12.10. Now /var/log/apt/history.log was my friend. The packages fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle (version 13.101-0ubuntu0.0.1) were the cause. Both packages version 8.960-0ubuntu1.1 have I installed back and marked as hold. In Ubuntu 12.04 LTS the fan now behaves as described in the manual for my Compal laptop motherboard type KHLB2. Two pages of the manual are in the Appendix. [Bug 1078922] Re: Fan runs unnecessary
Dear Phillip Susi, Indeed, I have lm-sensors installed. This was necessary in order to be able to see Pensor. After a few days I installed fancontrol. Run pwmconfig and concluded that this really is something for specialists. I have not changed the settings and fancontrol removed. Then reported the bug in launchpad and just added data by running apport-collect. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1078922 Title: Fan runs unnecessary To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lm-sensors/+bug/1078922/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1078922] Re: Fan runs unnecessary
Dear Joseph Salisbury, I have tested with kernel 3.7.0-030700rc5-generic. 'kernel-bug-exists- upstream'. Is it possible that the sensor 'CPU_TEMP_LOCAL' (new in Ubuntu 12.10) is the cause of the problem?

Dear Phillip Susi, I have run Ubuntu 12.10 with kernel linux-image-3.2.0-33.52-generic without headers. It has not helped. The problem has remained. I now notice that even with cold hardware the fan continues to run at full speed at 28°C because there just was a peak to 37°C.
What a pity. I was hoping to find a solution for the remarkable difference in the behavior of the fan in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Ubuntu 12.10. Occasionally quietly running in 12.04 LTS and almost fully running in 12.10. The BIOS has no setting for temperature or fan. Maybe newer Intel microcode can help me. ** Changed in: lm-sensors (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1078922 Title: Fan runs unnecessary To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lm-sensors/+bug/1078922/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 781100] Re: Unity overrides compose key setting
I am the writer of bug #779243 and today I found a way to pass the problem. In the Keyboard Layout Options I use 'Compose key position' and 'Key sequence to kill the X server'. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to kill the server means the use of the left Ctrl+Alt. I think it is not possible to use a key twice in the Options list so I have taken the right Ctrl key in the Compose key position. Everything is working fine now. Good luck and success. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781100 Title: Unity overrides compose key setting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/781100/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
