[Bug 303511] Re: Have Epson SX105 multifunction printer and can not find driver for Ubuntu
Hi Mr. Kamppeter, I did all you wrote and the result: 1. when I instruct a printing job the printer head makes some movements but does not print. 2. In the printing task report (applications/accessories) it indicates that the task have beenexecuted!!! 3. See the attached three .png files: -the 2-third-party file when I tried to open and see its contents was reported as broken and did not opened. -as you see in the two other .png files the corresponding sx105 ppd file is in .gz zipped form and I could not find anywhere as pure .ppd file. I hope this information was useful and, if no, please indicate where and what to check to give you a true image about the program state. Thanks again Andras Szabo (p.s.: I am 75 years old and have computers since 1985, eg.: Commodore C/plus4, and otherIBM compatible ones, used to programm in assembler and GWBasic/TurboBasic in the DOS era_no windows programming) Sorry, I could not attach all pictures, I will send you by e-mail. ** Attachment added: "usr_share_ppd.png" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20229829/usr_share_ppd.png -- Have Epson SX105 multifunction printer and can not find driver for Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303511 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 384561] [NEW] font size of Thunderbird menu is smaller
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird I use Xubuntu 9.04 and Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 (20090409). After updating from 8.10 to 9.04 the menu of Thunderbird started to appear with a bit smaller letters than any other application. (Eg. ca. 10px instead of 12px.) If I change the default system font size then it is getting also bigger. So the letters of Thunderbird menu changes from ca. 10px to 12px and all other application changes from 12px to 14 px. In addition to this it happens only in case of one of the user accounts. I have to user accounts and Thunderbird works as expected in the other session. I have no clue what's going on. As in my previous report but when starting the boot process the usual line progress stops about at 40% then continues running text lines rather fast to read, finally stops and waiting some entry. Nothing entry helps, (only [H^ or something like these appears). When pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL keys the machine reports that some process has been killed (?), appears rcS and afterwards rc5 within a text environment (fastly scrolls up and I could not copy or record it) then the start process finishes and appears the normal desktop structure. All these happened with Ubuntu 8.10 installed at the D: partition with WUBI near a FAT 32 file system Windows 98SE on C: and afterwards upgrading the 8.10 to 9.04. -- package memtest86+ 2.01-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: unable to make backup link of `./boot/memtest86+.bin' before installing new version: Operation not permitted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366298 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 236932] [NEW] Bug in upgrade 2.6.24-17-31-generic for UBUNTU 8.04
Public bug reported: After installing Ubuntu 8.04 with wubi-8.04.exe on D: partition, near an XPHome on Fat 32, it works perfectly (2.6.24-16-generic), starts with usual login (name and password) and successfully can be used. After recently upgrading to 2.6.24-17-31-generic and rebooting does not offers the usual login (name and password) but appears a black screen and the following text on it: BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu12) Built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. (initramfs) Now any command found in the help list of commands, even if with correct syntax as red from the BusyBox documentation nothing happens but a text appears: command can not find, etc. I can not stop this shell to continue with the log-in procedure! Ctrl-Alt-Del gets me back to reboot and all happens again, except, when I press ESC and select the 2.6.24-16-generic instead of 17-gen. After these operation I can log-in and use the system. This behaviour is not user friendly, specially to unskilled users who do not know how to act and never wants to use terminal like commands, only the graphic shell Is this a possible bug or it could be intentional? (This last option is not in accordance with the indicated Ubuntu project aims.) The noticed behaviour is when after the prompt that is (initramfs) I write: 'busybox exit' it answers with: 'there is no or missing applet' and waits an other command. Hi! If commands starts with 'busybox' always there is the same answer and, if only a command is given according to the busybox syntax the answer always command not found. The circle is closed! [Bug 236932] Re: Bug in upgrade 2.6.24-17-31-generic for UBUNTU 8.04
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 236021 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236021 Bug in upgrade to 2.6.24-17-generic & to 2.6.24-18-generic in UBUNTU 8.04 Hi everybody, Long time nobody answered this problem up to now. First of all, thanks for the comments! Finally, I started both kernel versions in recovery mode and I could find out the reason of the problem without finding the solution. There were in both cases the same failure report: Begin: Running /scripts/local-premount mount: Mounting /dev/disk/by-uuid/9068-E8C6 on /root failed: no such device mount: Mounting /root on /host failed: invalid argument ALERT! /host/ubuntu/disks/root.disk does not exists. Dropping to a shell! BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu12) Built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. (initramfs) When checked the HDD D:\ partition under Windows or under Ubuntu (running in grub the kernel 2.6.24.16-generic instead of the two unoperable ones of 17 and 18 gen.) I found there the ubuntu and all the claimed subdirectories and the disks that were not found by the 17 and18 kernels. Possibly, during the upgrade with dpkg one of the configuration files were wrong due to a bug and when started the 'ash' shell it could not work and react to any command because of the missing necessary 'background' virtual disk contents. This is why the BusyBox did not give a correct response and I could not achieve to exit. What can be and where to find the wrong script or configuration file to repair. Maybe, one of you give me the answer, but I am unable to correct the corresponding init.rd file if it is the responsible. I tried to correct the problem writing into the terminal the followings: sudo dpkg --clear-avail && sudo apt-get update and sudo dpkg --configure -a Nothing happened. In the /boot/grub/menu.lst I found: title Ubuntu 8.04, kernel 2.6.24-17-generic root(hd0,4)/ubuntu/disks kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-17-generic root=UUID=9068-E8C6 loop=/ubuntu/disks/root.disk ro single initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-17-generic title Ubuntu 8.04, kernel 2.6.24-16-generic root(hd0,4)/ubuntu/disks kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-16-generic root=UUID=9068-E8C6 loop=/ubuntu/disks/root.disk ro quiet splash initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-16-generic The above is the same in case of kernel 2.6.24-18-generic. Maybe somebody corrects the problem and this short description of the failure report will help to find the bad spot. Hi everybody above, After another try the results are as follows: Installing pips-snx100-ubuntu8.04-3.3.0-CG.install and pips-snx100-ubuntu8.04-3.5.0-CG.install to both distributions of Ubuntu, each separately to a virgen 8.04 and afterwards to a virgen 8.10) separately on different HDDs. Due to the fact that with Ubuntu 8.10 have a lot of compatibility problems (does not recognised any web camera, in Skype nobody can hear me, even if a tried all the suggested things, etc.). Please find an error log obtained from Ubuntu 8.04. The print head moves, the paper is not moved and after a short while the printer state report shows that the print job has been made to stop. Hi Everybody, Found Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty of 04 January, 2009) on Cannonical download WEB-page and downloading the install ISO file, afterwards upgrading Ubuntu 8.10 version to 9.04 the SX105 Epson printer were recognised by the op. system and the B&W and Colour printing resulted excellent! [Bug 303511] Re: Have Epson SX105 multifunction printer and can not find driver for Ubuntu
Hi Thraxy and Till K., I have downloaded both the 8.04 and 8.10 drivers from Avasys as indicated above. On Ubuntu 8.10 the 3.5.0-CG driver works perfectly but the 3.3.0-CG does not on Ubuntu 8.04 (Even if the testpage correctly comes out) and all the print jobs are interrumped and does not works. Visibly, all the things are OK. Mr. Kampeter told me to download the Gutenprint 5.2.3 but it is in .tar.gz2 form and I am not aware of how to install it. If it would be prepared as that of the 3.5.0-CG.install or as .dev package I would install it. I am not experienced source compiler at all. In Ubuntu 8.10 I have a lot of incompatibility problems and I would prefer using the 8.04.1 distribution. [Bug 303511] Re: Have Epson SX105 multifunction printer and can not find driver for Ubuntu
Hi everybody, I am highly desilusioned with regards to the Epson behaviour! After a thorough search in every forums I found that they are completely subordinated to Microsoft and it was impossible to find solution for the SX105 Multifunction Printer Problem to force it to work under Ubuntu. As a final comclusion, I recommend everybody to verify if the printer he/she want to acquire has a support to work under his/her operating system. Much to my sorrow I found that the new very cheap HP printer sold today has a very detailed description and full support to install its driver under a lot of various Linux distributions. Hurrah HP!
