[Bug 303511] Re: Have Epson SX105 multifunction printer and can not find driver for Ubuntu

2008-12-05 Thread Szabó András
Hi Mr. Kamppeter,

I did all you wrote and the result:
1. when I instruct a printing job the printer head makes some movements but
does not print.
2. In the printing task report (applications/accessories) it indicates that the
task have beenexecuted!!!
3. See the attached three .png files:
-the 2-third-party file when I tried to open and see its contents was
reported as broken and did not opened.
-as you see in the two other .png files the corresponding sx105 ppd file is
in .gz zipped form and I could not
find anywhere as pure .ppd file.

I hope this information was useful and, if no, please indicate where and what
to check to give you a true
image about the program state.

Thanks again

Sorry, I could not attach all pictures, I will send you by e-mail.

2008-12-07 Thread Szabó András
Today have made an other try to print. No printing achieved.
See the var/log/cups/error_log contents before and after trying to print.
Really, I do not know if this will help in discovering the problem.
I have attached both log contents one after the other in one txt file.

[Bug 384561] [NEW] font size of Thunderbird menu is smaller

2009-06-07 Thread Szabó András
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

I use Xubuntu 9.04 and Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 (20090409). After updating
from 8.10 to 9.04 the menu of Thunderbird started to appear with a bit
smaller letters than any other application. (Eg. ca. 10px instead of
12px.) If I change the default system font size then it is getting also
bigger. So the letters of Thunderbird menu changes from ca. 10px to
12px and all other application changes from 12px to 14 px.

In addition to this it happens only in case of one of the user accounts.
I have to user accounts and Thunderbird works as expected in the other
session.

I have no clue what's going on. Any hints what to check?

[Bug 384563] [NEW] hotkeys actions are not repeatable

2009-06-07 Thread Szabó András
Public bug reported:

I've recently upgraded from 8.10 to Xubuntu 9.04. In one of the users
accounts the hotkeys defined in the Window Manager sections don't work
as expected. E.g. for Ctrl-Shift-x my settings maximize a window
horizontally. But pressing the same combination do not change/normalize
the window size.

The strangest is that it happens only in one of the user accounts. In
case of the other one everything works as expected.

2009-06-01 Thread Szabó András
Hi Leann Ogasawara,

To your above question: yes, almost all Ubuntu distros have the similar
problem, later or earlier, independently from their installation with
wubi near a Windows op. system or in case of using clean install to a
separate hard disk. On separate hard disk only one continuously
appearing package is in question, while in case of wubi installed one
there are two or three packages that can not be installed as
replacement.

Sorry, but I can not tell more about this problem. Even this problem
exists the use of the Ubuntu is perfect.

Hi Leann Ogasawara,

After a new check and try I have to change my mind, I was wrong: in case
of clean install on a separate hard disk the problem does not appears,
in contrary to the above, previous comment.

Sorry!

I will try the suggestions related to file system change (NTFS instead
of FAT32) for the wubi installed Ubuntu as per the comments of bug
252900.

[Bug 366298] Re: package memtest86+ 2.01-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: unable to make backup link of `./boot/memtest86+.bin' before installing new version: Operation not permitted

2009-05-07 Thread Szabó András
As in my previous report but when starting the boot process the usual
line progress stops about at 40% then continues running text lines
rather fast to read, finally stops and waiting some entry. Nothing entry
helps, (only [H^ or something like these appears). When pressing
CTRL+ALT+DEL keys the machine reports that some process has been killed
(?), appears rcS and afterwards rc5 within a text environment (fastly
scrolls up and I could not copy or record it) then the start process
finishes and appears the normal desktop structure.

All these happened with Ubuntu 8.10 installed at the D: partition with
WUBI near a FAT 32 file system Windows 98SE on C: and afterwards
upgrading the 8.10 to 9.04.

The same error report was obtained after upgrading ubuntu 8.10 to ubuntu 9.04
Rebooting, the booting stops after certain time and after pressing
CTRL+ALT+Backspace the boot restarts from the interrupted point and finishes.
This interruption does not happen if I start from an earlier kernel, the
2.6.27-9, not the 2.6.27-11.
I could not obtain an System test report, since after starting it, it stopped
without continuing in the usual manner.

2008-06-02 Thread Szabó András
Public bug reported:

After installing Ubuntu 8.04 with wubi-8.04.exe on D: partition, near
an XPHome on Fat 32, it works perfectly (2.6.24-16-generic), starts
with usual login (name and password) and successfully can be used.

After recently upgrading to 2.6.24-17-31-generic and rebooting does
not offers the usual login (name and password) but appears a black
screen and the following text on it:

 BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu12) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
 (initramfs)

Now any command found in the help list of commands, even if with correct
syntax as red from the BusyBox documentation nothing happens but
a text appears: command can not find, etc.

I can not stop this shell to continue with the log-in procedure!
Ctrl-Alt-Del gets me back to reboot and all happens again, except,
when I press ESC and select the 2.6.24-16-generic instead of 17-gen.
After these operation I can log-in and use the system.
This behaviour is not user friendly, specially to unskilled users who
do not know how to act and never wants to use terminal like
 commands, only the graphic shell

Is this a possible bug or it could be intentional? (This last option is not in
accordance with the indicated Ubuntu project aims.)

The noticed behaviour is when after the prompt that is (initramfs) I write:
'busybox exit' it answers with: 'there is no or missing applet'
and waits an other command. Hi! If commands starts with 'busybox' always
there is the same answer and, if only a command is given according to the
busybox syntax the answer always command not found.
The circle is closed!

[Bug 236932] Re: Bug in upgrade 2.6.24-17-31-generic for UBUNTU 8.04

Bug in upgrade to 2.6.24-17-generic & to 2.6.24-18-generic in UBUNTU
8.04

Hi everybody,

Long time nobody answered this problem up to now.
First of all, thanks for the comments!

Finally, I started both kernel versions in recovery mode and I could
find out the reason of the problem without finding the solution.

There were in both cases the same failure report:

Begin: Running /scripts/local-premount
mount: Mounting /dev/disk/by-uuid/9068-E8C6
on /root failed: no such device
mount: Mounting /root on /host failed: invalid argument
ALERT! /host/ubuntu/disks/root.disk does not exists.
  Dropping to a shell!

BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu12) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
 (initramfs)

When checked the HDD D:\ partition under Windows or
under Ubuntu (running in grub the kernel 2.6.24.16-generic
instead of the two unoperable ones of 17 and 18 gen.)
I found there the ubuntu and all the claimed subdirectories
and the disks that were not found by the 17 and18 kernels.

Possibly, during the upgrade with dpkg one of the configuration
files were wrong due to a bug and when started the 'ash' shell it
could not work and react to any command because of the missing
necessary 'background' virtual disk contents. This is why the
BusyBox did not give a correct response and I could not achieve to exit.

What can be and where to find the wrong script or configuration file to repair.
Maybe, one of you give me the answer, but I am unable to correct
the corresponding init.rd file if it is the responsible.

I tried to correct the problem writing into the terminal the followings:

sudo dpkg --clear-avail && sudo apt-get update
and
sudo dpkg --configure -a

Nothing happened.

In the /boot/grub/menu.lst I found:

title Ubuntu 8.04, kernel 2.6.24-17-generic
root(hd0,4)/ubuntu/disks
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-17-generic root=UUID=9068-E8C6
loop=/ubuntu/disks/root.disk ro single
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-17-generic

title Ubuntu 8.04, kernel 2.6.24-16-generic
root(hd0,4)/ubuntu/disks
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-16-generic root=UUID=9068-E8C6
loop=/ubuntu/disks/root.disk ro quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-16-generic

The above is the same in case of kernel 2.6.24-18-generic.

Maybe somebody corrects the problem and this short
description of the failure report will help to find the bad spot.

Thanks again and, until the problem has been solved i am using
the kernel 2.6.24-16-generic.

By the way! Can I delete the useless parts and files installed
and how?

[Bug 303511] Re: Have Epson SX105 multifunction printer and can not find driver for Ubuntu

2009-01-01 Thread Szabó András
Hi everybody above,

After another try the results are as follows:

Installing pips-snx100-ubuntu8.04-3.3.0-CG.install and
pips-snx100-ubuntu8.04-3.5.0-CG.install to both distributions of Ubuntu, each
separately to a virgen 8.04 and afterwards to a virgen 8.10) separately on
different HDDs.
The results in both cases are that the test pages are perfect but in case of
Ubuntu 8.04 I can not print any other txt or doc or picture file. On Ubuntu
8.10 everything worked correctly. Due to the fact that with Ubuntu 8.10 have a
lot of compatibility problems (does not recognised any web camera, in Skype
nobody can hear me, even if a tried all the suggested things, etc.).

Please find an error log obtained from Ubuntu 8.04. The print head
moves, the paper is not moved and after a short while the printer state
report shows that the print job has been made to stop. I did not stopped
and it is shown that a user interruption ocurred.

Now, how to continue?

[Bug 303511] Re: Have Epson SX105 multifunction printer and can not find driver for Ubuntu

2009-01-04 Thread Szabó András
Hi Everybody,

Found Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty of 04 January, 2009) on Cannonical download
WEB-page and downloading the install ISO file, afterwards upgrading
Ubuntu 8.10 version to 9.04 the SX105 Epson printer were recognised by
the op. system and the B&W and Colour printing resulted excellent!

Booting from the Ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386 Live CD it recognised also
immediately the Epson SX105 printer and the printing worked without any
problem.

Thanks for the development staff their work! This were a New Year gift
for me!!

[Bug 303511] Re: Have Epson SX105 multifunction printer and can not find driver for Ubuntu

2008-12-28 Thread Szabó András
Hi Thraxy and Till K.,

I have downloaded both the 8.04 and 8.10 drivers from Avasys as
indicated above. On Ubuntu 8.10 the 3.5.0-CG driver works perfectly but
the 3.3.0-CG does not on Ubuntu 8.04 (Even if the testpage correctly
comes out) and all the print jobs are interrumped and does not works.
Visibly, all the things are OK.

Mr. Kampeter told me to download the Gutenprint 5.2.3 but it is in
.tar.gz2 form and I am not aware of how to install it. If it would be
prepared as that of the 3.5.0-CG.install or as .dev package I would
install it. I am not experienced source compiler at all.

In Ubuntu 8.10 I have a lot of incompatibility problems and I would
prefer using the 8.04.1 distribution.

Thanks all your efforts!

[Bug 303511] Re: Have Epson SX105 multifunction printer and can not find driver for Ubuntu

2008-12-17 Thread Szabó András
Hi everybody,

I am highly desilusioned with regards to the Epson behaviour! After a thorough
search in every forums I found that they are completely subordinated to
Microsoft and it was impossible to find solution for the SX105 Multifunction
Printer Problem to force it to work under Ubuntu.
As a final comclusion, I recommend everybody to verify if the printer he/she
want to acquire has a support to work under his/her operating system. Much to
my sorrow I found that the new very cheap HP printer sold today has a very
detailed description and full support to install its driver under a lot of
various Linux distributions. Hurrah HP!
I never buy again Epson printer and will recommend everybody to do the same
(except if they want to use it under Windows).

Thanks everybody who tried to help me to solve my problem!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy new year with a lot of really operating Linux
drivers!

Just downloaded the Kubuntu 9.04 distro and when started the Live CD just then
appeared the error message.
Pentium 2.4 GHz, BH7 motherboard with 1.5 GByte RAM, Nvidia Geforce 4 MMX 440
64 MByte RAM monitor card.

If I have found other observations will describe. Have Ubuntu 9.04 also
that does not shown any problems, except it did not recognised the

Good luck!

Hi Lewann Ogasawara,

Yes, the similar problem usually comes on with Wubi installed Ubuntu
distributions, including 8.04, 8.04.1&2, 9.04.
I am using double boot HDDs in plugin type racks on various machines to
experiment with various Linux operation systems (Ubuntu, Suse, Slax, UHU,
Mandriva, etc.) and these are installed on the D: partition where the C:
partition contains some Windows (XP, Win98SE) versions. The installed
distributions are using Hungarian language and have broadband internet access
using a wired router.

Hope this will help! If you need more info, let me know and please try
to explain, how to obtain it from the Linux system, since I am not to
much aware of the Linux programming. HI!

On other Ubuntu 8.04.2 installed the same way (near WinXP) on an other computer
where the report were very similar to the above and the router is the same but
the Ethernet adapter is a 3Com make and, on a third other computer connected to
the same router with the same setup and Ubuntu 8.04.2 near Win98SE using the
integrated Realtek Ethernet adapter all is working perfectly.

I tested the setup with PING and NETSTAT and the results are attached herebelow.
Firefox responds that the web pages could not be accessed, say, no internet
access.
Did not help nor ifup eth0, nor ifdown eth0. Negative answers.
Any hints?

Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 9.04 beta Live/install CD of 24.03.24. after booting and starts
working everything was OK but on the lower part of the screen endlessly
opens one after the other the Start File Manager and simultaneously
everything disappeared from the desktop, only the empty screen
background colour has been seen.

Screenshot attached. Live CD reports that the CD contents are
failureless.

[Bug 358438] Re: Endless appears Start File Manager after boot finished

2009-04-09 Thread Szabó András
After some more try I found that the nautilus process ID number continuously
increases and the process is continuously running. Appears an announcement
saying that the nautilus has been crashed & the memory is too small (the
process table shows some 3 GB memory requirement) and on the lower tray appear
one by one a lot of Start File Manager indicating that in every moment a new
one is opened and these scroll towards right direction. I can not open any
hardware to see its contents, due to this problem.
Have a 1.5 GByte RAM with a Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz processor. But when trying to
run the same Ubuntu 9.04 Live/Install CD in a Pentium 3, 500 MHz processor,
having only 750 MByte RAM the system starts and no problem found!!!
When starting an earlier Ubuntu 9.04 Live/Install CD (of 27.02.2009) this
problem does not appears in case of both machines.
