Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 8.04.2, installed with Wubi-8.04.1-exe under FAT32 D:
partition near Win98SE using Broadcom BCM955705A5D-D Ethernet adapter I
do not have broadband internet access through a wired router, even if
starting the Win98SE it operates perfectly (the Ubuntu were installed
also under windows with the same adapter and WUBI installer from the
internet).

In the terminal the following report could be obtained:

ba...@bandi-desktop:~$ ifconfig eth0
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:10:18:0b:08:0c
          inet addr:192.168.2.102 Bcast:192.168.2.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::210:18ff:fe0b:80c/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:1 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:35 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:144 (144.0 B) TX bytes:4917 (4.8 KB)
          Interrupt:10

On other Ubuntu 8.04.2 installed the same way (near WinXP) on an other computer
where the report were very similar to the above and the router is the same but
the Ethernet adapter is a 3Com make and, on a third other computer connected to
the same router with the same setup and Ubuntu 8.04.2 near Win98SE using the
integrated Realtek Ethernet adapter all is working perfectly.

I tested the setup with PING and NETSTAT and the results are attached herebelow.
Firefox responds that the web pages could not be accessed, say, no internet
access.
Did not help nor ifup eth0, nor ifdown eth0. Negative answers.
Any hints?
