[Bug 817145] Re: Unable to find a medium containing live file system
> please run the following: > apport-collect 817145 Done. There were some error messages regarding firefox, but I hope all relevant data was uploaded. If not, please let me know. > Also, would it be possible for you to switch the bios back to IDE and test the latest upstream kernel As I've written earlier the DELL BIOS unfortunately does not have any options for SATA the operation. Only options are: [ ] DISABLE [X] ATA (SATA is configured for ATA mode) I'll check the DELL website for BIOS updates. Perhaps they have an updated version. Anyway I tried the RC10 kernel image/header and the problem still exists there. By the way, I don't see the "needs-upstream- testing" tag. Or is it just not visible to me? [Bug 817145] Re: Unable to find a medium containing live file system
I had the same idea today, loaded down 11.10 and put on a USB pen drive. I can confirm that the DVD drive runs fine in a Ubuntu 11.10 live session. I haven't installed 11.10 on my computer yet, but I think the DVD drive should run on an installed 11.10 too. So as for me the tag of this bug might be changed. Or is there anything else I can do? [Bug 817145] Re: Unable to find a medium containing live file system
Hi Roger, on my Dell 390 with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS everything works fine with the backport kernel from 11.10. Currently I'm running kernel version 3.0.0-14-generic. For that I installed this meta package: linux-image-generic-lts-backport-oneiric If you don't want to use 10.04 LTS you should install Ubuntu 11.10 (because everything works fine there too) or try the mainline kernel, but this is not too easy as it is not in the repositories. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/817145 Title: Unable to find a medium containing live file system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/817145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 817145] Re: Unable to find a medium containing live file system
I have the very same problem with (X)Ubuntu 11.04 (normal and alternate) i386 on a very new Dell OptiPlex 390 system. HDD is on SATA-0. The DVD ROM is on SATA-1. BusyBox v1.17.1 appears after selecting 'try Ubuntu without installation' telling me that it's unable to find a medium containing live file system. Changing HDD and DVD from SATA-0 to SATA-1 and vice versa does not solve the problem. I'm able to install (X)Ubuntu from a USB device, but then no CD/DVD shows up. It's not visible in the Gnome Disk Utility and there's nothing I can do about it. The DVD ROM runs in Windows7 without any problems. DELL BIOS does not have any settings (like AHCI or IDE) for the SATA devices, except [ ] DISABLE and [X] ATA (SATA is configured for ATA mode). Of course [X] DISABLE does not help at all. A Linux Mint XFCE on a USB started as Live System can find and mount the DVD ROM with any media inserted (CD, DVD). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/817145 Title: Unable to find a medium containing live file system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/817145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

For now google-gadgets-xul is mandatory for google-gadgets-gtk. Removing it is not an option. [Bug 286906] [NEW] Unable to use libmozjs.so in an application, because of library path problem.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xulrunner-1.9 source package: xulrunner-1.9 version: 1.9.0.1 ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 I'm working on a project which depends on xulrunner and spidermonkey (libmozjs). I use ubuntu 8.04 and xulrunner 1.9 as my development environment. The problem is, libmozjs.so is in /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.0.x/ subdir, the application can't find it if rpath is not used. But if rpath is used, it'll be bound to a specific version of xulrunner, which is not what we want. And there is no way to get the correct library path of libmozjs.so by pkg-config --libs mozilla-js.pc, which returns /usr/lib/xulrunner-devel-1.9.0.x/lib as the library path, which is only available in xulrunner-1.9-dev package. The content of mozilla-js.pc provided by xulrunner-1.9-dev package: 8< prefix=/usr sdkdir=/usr/lib/xulrunner-devel-1.9.0.1 includedir=/usr/include/xulrunner-1.9.0.1 Name: JavaScript Description: The Mozilla JavaScript Library Version: 1.9.0.1 Requires: nspr >= 3.12.0 Libs: -L${sdkdir}/lib -lmozjs Cflags: -I${includedir}/stable -DXP_UNIX -DJS_THREADSAFE 8< You can see that there is no libdir definition in this file, and the -L parameter points to /usr/lib/xulrunner-devel-1.9.0.1/lib, which is only available when xulrunner-1.9-dev is installed. Below is mozilla-js.pc from openSUSE 11: 8< prefix=/usr sdkdir=/usr/lib64/xulrunner-devel-1.9.0.3 libdir=/usr/lib64/xulrunner-1.9 includedir=/usr/include/xulrunner-1.9.0.3 Name: JavaScript Description: The Mozilla JavaScript Library Version: 1.9.0.3 Requires: nspr >= 4.7.1 Libs: -L${sdkdir}/lib -lmozjs Cflags: -I${includedir}/unstable -DXP_UNIX -DJS_THREADSAFE 8< You can see that libdir is provided in this file and "/usr/lib64/xulrunner-1.9" is a symbol link to the real xulrunner path(/usr/lib64/xulrunner-1.9.0.3). Then I can use the libdir as rpath in my application and is still ok after upgrading xulrunner to a newer version. Besides the libdir issue, the Cflags in ubuntu's mozilla-js.pc is incorrect, which should be -I${includedir}/unstable instead of -I${includedir}/stable Both ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 have this issue. ** Affects: xulrunner-1.9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Alexander Sack (asac) Status: New ** Changed in: xulrunner-1.9 (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Alexander Sack (asac) -- Unable to use libmozjs.so in an application, because of library path problem. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286906 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 286906] Re: Unable to use libmozjs.so in an application, because of library path problem.
The project I'm working on is: http://code.google.com/p/google-gadgets-for-linux, which has two modules that relies on xulrunner: 1. A script runtime module based on SpiderMonkey library(libmozjs.so), taking charge of javascript interpretation. 2. A browser module based on Gecko(gtkmozembed) and SpiderMonkey library, taking charge of html rendering. It needs inject methods into html window and run some javascript code, so only Gecko is not enough. xulrunner is the only package which provides both Gecko and SpiderMonkey. Though Gecko can be accessed via xpcomglue, SpiderMonkey can only be used as a shared library. So in this point of view, xulrunner ships not only a sdk + runner, but also a shared library. -- Unable to use libmozjs.so in an application, because of library path problem. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286906 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

A webkit backend has been implemented for GGL and will hopefully be released with the next version of GGL. Then the mandatory dependency between GGL and xulrunner can be removed. But unfortunately, webkit-1.0.1 is broken and will crash when running GGL. A webkit backend has been implemented for GGL and will hopefully be released with the next version of GGL. Then the mandatory dependency between GGL and xulrunner can be removed. But unfortunately, webkit-1.0.1 is broken and will crash when running GGL. So it would be good if webkit in ubuntu can be upgraded to the latest version (1.1.x), then GGL can be built solely based on webkit instead of xulrunner. -- Main inclusion for Google Gadgets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314778 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 121653] Re: [gutsy] fglrx breaks over suspend/resume
Is there anyway we can just pre-compile some kernels with SLAB (along with whatever modules maybe needed), and just host it somewhere, or maybe even seed it on a torrent? you have to modify .fonts.conf file to implement the font substitution. otherwise, every chinese character would go to boxes.. -- QT program doesn't select Chinese font correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/94282 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Would > this affect how Qt handles fonts? > > Cheers. Dear MilchFlasche My suggestions are: 1. do not touch /etc/fonts, only work on ~/.fonts.conf 2. if you can read Simplified Chinese, go to forum.ubuntu.org.cn in the section "中文支持" (chinese support) you might find some useful information. Just go to the forum and find what you need, plenty of solutions there. AndI think my system deal with the fonts like "bitstream" or "dejavu" in chinese well. just put them into the XML file, at section, I suppose. Indeed, the Qt library work well after the final version of Feisty come out, at least in my computer. The only problem is in some JAVA programs like stellarium, no chinese could be shown, I don't know why, but I seldom use JAVA. Well, I can answer the question of XML now but not a week ago, since I've learnt that just three days before~^_^. DTD is useful, but not necessary for XML files. DTD section only control the structure of XML file, to force the XML data follow the structure defined in that section. If the XML file data do not follow, parser will report an error and try to recover. However, it is not necessary for XML files. Without that, a well-formed XML file will work. But there will be NO check of structure. A simple example: HELLO WORLD 3.1415 this is a standard XML file, without DTD section. it will be parsed as it is well-formed. however, if DTD information is inserted at the 2nd line like this: ] > will be parsed with error because the DTD section restricted the XML file so DATA could only have element with TEXT. XML is simple, just spend a few hours you can work on it, though not mastering. Re: [Bug 196724] Re: console-kit-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in vt_thread_start()
hi sir, last night, the srilanka boy, sahan, said he fixed his laptop wifi internet connection problem. it isn't true, he was lying. when i discussed with him about his laptop wifi issue last night, i noticed he was lying, but i didn't disclose him then (while actually i took the opportunity to teach him about computer, but he just listened to it and couldn't reply with any thought). while the network monitoring software installed in the network identified his laptop hasn't gone to internet before and after then (the network monitoring software can display any devices haven't gone to internet through the network). he was blankly lying and this is the pattern of his behavior since he has been my flatmate for nearly 2 months time. the reasons he was lying last night are: 1) boast himself good at and like computer, but actually not. he is a poorly school-performed both in srilanka and in new zealand. while he like to fight with people, likes cigarette and drug, likes browsing pornographic and gambling websites. 2) he knows i have been running my own IT business and may want to convince me so that i can give him an offer, so he can get money (his behavior is very similar as one of my previous tenants, Marthinus/Martin, the truck driver from south africa). 3) he is conservative, afraid of losing face when i explained to him that his computer got wifi connection for internet problem, but he got no clear idea of what's wrong with his computer, while he has already studied computer full time for more than one year in new zealand. just FYI, if you're interest with it. i just want to be responsible to report this to the might be relevant people. regards, d.s. hi sir, last night, the srilanka boy, sahan, said he fixed his laptop wifi internet connection problem. it isn't true, he was lying. when i discussed with him about his laptop wifi issue last night, i noticed he was lying, but i didn't disclose him then (while actually i took the opportunity to teach him about computer, but he just listened to it and couldn't reply with any thought). while the network monitoring software installed in the network identified his laptop hasn't gone to internet before and after then (the network monitoring software can display any devices haven't gone to internet through the network). he was blankly lying and this is the pattern of his behavior since he has been my flatmate for nearly 2 months time. the reasons he was lying last night are: 1) boast himself good at and like computer, but actually not. he is a poorly school-performed both in srilanka and in new zealand. while he like to fight with people, likes cigarette and drug, likes browsing pornographic and gambling websites. 2009/9/25 burst > Sehr geehrter Absender! > > Mit freundlichen Grüßen > SpamCleaner > > -- > console-kit-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in vt_thread_start() > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/196724 > You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber > of the bug. > > Status in “consolekit” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed > Status in consolekit in Ubuntu Hardy: Confirmed > Status in “consolekit” package in Fedora: Won't Fix > > Bug description: > Binary package hint: consolekit > > Reboot with Hardy updates on 29th Feb. > > ProblemType: Crash > Architecture: i386 > CrashCounter: 1 > Date: Fri Feb 29 01:38:08 2008 > DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04 > ExecutablePath: /usr/sbin/console-kit-daemon > NonfreeKernelModules: cdrom > Package: consolekit 0.2.3-3ubuntu3 > PackageArchitecture: i386 > ProcCmdline: /usr/sbin/console-kit-daemon > ProcEnviron: > > Signal: 11 > SourcePackage: consolekit > StacktraceTop: > ?? hi sir, the other 2 srilanka flatmates are very similar, i.e. lie quite often and make things up as well (but not so violent and easy to anger as him). i think this might be their culture make them like that. they're new to this country, just finished study at school, want to stay in this country, but worry about i reported their bad behaviors to local people, so they made thing up to say i'm not good to them. i'm a small, single man and nice landlord, and they're all taller and bigger than me. if you can understand the mood and pychology of the new people to a new country, you'll understand what i'm saying. regards, d.s. [Bug 1791427] Re: Touchpad and/or trackpoint stop working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th
Hi guys, I also suffer from this problem on my X1 6th gen on Ubuntu as well as Fedora. Looks like there was a change made in Kernel 5.5 addressing the issue (see the last sentence in the commit message, "With this change I can read out the touchpad data correctly on my Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th Gen laptop"): https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/a284e11c371e446371675668d8c8120a27227339#diff-02afb07ddbb5e9cae9b7709130f6ec26 Generally speaking, there are a lot of changes in the rmi4 driver since April 2019 or Kernel 5.1 (see https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commits/master/drivers/input/rmi4). Unfortunately I'm still having this problem on Kernel 5.3 so I was hoping 5.4 would improve the situation. I guess we'll have to try 5.5 then! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1791427 Title: Touchpad and/or trackpoint stop working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1791427/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
