This bug is no longer affecting me. Trying the upstream kernel I found that the only symptom was that the mpeg file appeared to be about to play, but never started. Thanks Daniel. The workaround is successful. (I think I ran ubuntu-bug gnupg-agent, I can't remember) I'd now be tempted to mark this as a duplicate of bug 367163, EXCEPT that my main issue is not that the Pinentry dialog opened, but that (at least in UNR) it closed again immediately.
