Thanks for the pointers. I've created a new debdiff against Lucid dealing with the first three points (I hope). How do I forward it upstream? Do I need to raise a bug in Debian? Email the original package maintainer? I've read the wiki page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Patches, but it's not clear on this.
