Yes it's absolutely the same case, I think I get the same messages on my screen. What laptop do you own? [Bug 279187] [NEW] regression: usplash causes system to beep and hang
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libusplash0 On my laptop (a HP hdx 9400) 8.04 x86 and x86_64 boot fine with splash enabled. With 8.10 (tested against alpha 2 - beta) I'm unable to boot either the live cd or the installed version unless I modify the kernel parameters. The system starts to beep until it beeps continuously. I don't think it would continue to boot but my nerves prohibit waiting longer than 20 seconds with that sound. This happens so early that no log file in /var/log is written yet. If I change the parameters such that splash is not used (e.g adding vga=3 noquiet and remove splash option 8.10 boots fine) . ** Affects: usplash (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- regression: usplash causes system to beep and hang https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/279187 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 279187] Re: regression: usplash causes system to beep aloud
Januty alpha 3 has the same problem. As a workaround it seems that changing the boot option splash to nosplash avoids the situation, but since it doesn't happen always (I had it with alpha 3 with the noquiet and splash option) it's maybe just a timing problem and not directly splah related problem. -- regression: usplash causes system to beep aloud https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/279187 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 410984] [NEW] Regression: HP hdx 9300 often hangs on boot with acpi enabled
Public bug reported: My laptop, a hp hdx 9300, often doesn't boot with Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 Alpha 3 (64 bit). This is a regression, since it worked (albeit with some quirks) okay on 9.04 and 8.10 (it had a beeping problem that was solved for me when I removed the quiet option from the boot options. see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usplash/+bug/279187) Both the live cd and the installed OS hang on boot pretty often (say 3 of 4 attempts). With the quiet options it might even be more often (I didn't gather reliable statistical data). The only remedy is to shut down the laptop then, ctrl + alt +del is ignored. When I use acpi=off or acpi=noirq I can boot into alpha 3, but of course I want to have full power management (I'm currently running Fedora 11 without any of these problems). I'm attaching a screenshot of the messages (the hang happens so early that no log file is written) and a lscpi-dump from Fedorra 11. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Regression: HP hdx 9300 often hangs on boot with acpi enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410984 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 550382] [NEW] [Regression] System freezes often during booting
Public bug reported: My laptop used to boot fine with karmic 32bit. I boot it a few times a day and haven't noticed any problems. I installed lucid when it was at Alpha 2 and used it daily since then. About a week ago I got random freezes during booting. (Certainly with 2.6.32-17, I'm not sure about 2.6.32-16). I confirmed that upstream 2.6.33-020633-generic has the same problem. Please note that I had the same issues for the 64 bit version since karmic(!), but the 32 bit version worked nicely, so I thought it was a 64 bit issue. Switching to 32 bit was an acceptable workaround, but now that the 32 bit doesn't boot most of the time I'm close to desperation (since it means I must switch back to Windows after 7 years...). The last line printed on the screen is: [0.529300] ata_piix :00:1f.1: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16 After that the system can only be powered off, rebooting is not possible. I'd say that the system freezes with a probability of about 50-75%. Screenshot when system is frozen added. Comparing to a dmesg output of a successful boot I fail to see much difference. [Bug 550382] Re: [Regression] System freezes often during booting
I checked again. Here are my findings: Out of 5 attempts lucid booted 2 times successfully with 2.6.32-17 and froze 3 times with that version. Lucid booted 8 times successfully with 2.6.32-16 (2.6.32-16-generic #25-Ubuntu SMP Tue Mar 9 16:33:52 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux) and no freezes could be observed I'm pretty sure that the regression was introduced with -17. I'll attach the dmesg for -16 and -17 and the diff (after timing output has been removed). The one difference I could find is that -16 prints something like scsi0 : ahci scsi1 : ahci scsi2 : ahci ata1: SATA max UDMA/133 abar m2...@0xec009000 port 0xec009100 irq 31 ata2: SATA max UDMA/133 abar m2...@0xec009000 port 0xec009180 irq 31 ata3: SATA max UDMA/133 abar m2...@0xec009000 port 0xec009200 irq 31 and -17 prints scsi0 : ata_piix scsi1 : ata_piix ata1: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x1f0 ctl 0x3f6 bmdma 0x70a0 irq 14 ata2: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x170 ctl 0x376 bmdma 0x70a8 irq 15 Since the ata_piix message has as far as I remember always been the last line I suspect that the issue could have to do with that output. [Bug 434163] [NEW] [Pot. regression] display brightness is darkened after gdm starts
Public bug reported: (This might be a duplicate of #433889, but I'm under the impression you prefer to get get separate bug reports). I'm running into the following problem on my laptop (HP hdx 9300 with Geforce 8800M GTS and 190.32 binary drivers): GDM starts and displays the login screen. At some point in time the display's brightness will be turned down (sometimes a few seconds after GDM started, sometimes when my X session starts) such that the display is completely dark. This happens when I'm running on AC as well as on battery. I haven't had this problem on any ubuntu version since 8.04 except for karmic. My Fedora 11 installation was recently updated to Kernel 2.6.30 and has now the same problem. The workaround for me it to switch to a console with crtl + alt + f2 and then switch back to X. The display's brightness is then up to 100% again. (Please note that brightness control has never worked correctly on my laptop. I had some success with writing directly to /proc/acpi/video/C150/C164/brightness, but values smaller than 58 (or so) led to a flickering screen.) ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-collected -- [Pot. regression] display brightness is darkened after gdm starts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/434163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 533495] [NEW] opengl performance regression with compiz
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz OpenGL performance is much worse with Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 3 than with 9.04 when using compiz (i.e. visual effects are turned on) in windowed mode. I've also file a bug on alsa about it (https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org /alsa-bug/view.php?id=4665 ) and I tried some things in the subsequent days. The current status is: * I have no way to make it work with alsa 1.0.20 * Kernel 2.6.31 comes with a more recent alsa version, which offers a new option "model=5stack-no-fp" (seems that it's still labeled 1.0.20) * If model is set to 5stack-no-fp and "Line Jack Mode" = "Line Out" then sound works (Some channels have to be unmuted) * After each reboot the "Line Jack Mode" must be set to a different value and then back to "Line Out" to make sound work * This works for both the 2.6.31-6 kernel and the mainline kernel I've tried to restart alsa after gnome starts and see if that helps with the re-adjustment of the line jack mode issue, but it didn't. ** Bug watch added: ALSA Bug Tracker #4665 https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=4665 ** Tags removed: needs-upstream-testing -- [Regression] No sound with Karmic on HP HDX 9300 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/407790 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 407790] Re: [Regression] No sound with Karmic on HP HDX 9300
I installed linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.31-14-generic and tried again without better results. How can I check that I have the right alsa version? The situation remains the same: I get some sound when I unmute the channels and turn the volume up and change the line jack mode as described above. There appears to be a timeout issue: After a certain amount of time after all sound stopped I have to repeat the line jack procedure. My alsa-base.conf contains the line options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N model=5stack-no-fp Seems as if there's a timeout of 10 seconds after which I lose my sound again. Even after that I would prefer not to set the line jack after each reboot. Please let me know what other files than created by alsa-info.sh I should attach. ** Attachment added: "alsa-info after linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.31-14-generic" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/33755375/alsa-info.txt -- [Regression] No sound with Karmic on HP HDX 9300 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/407790 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 407790] Re: [Regression] No sound with Karmic on HP HDX 9300
Wow crazy, it works without any model. Thank you! Do I have to keep linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generics installed or is it going to be merged into the ubuntu kernel? -- [Regression] No sound with Karmic on HP HDX 9300 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/407790 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

32 bit works still like a charm. [Bug 1825626] Re: nvLock: client timed out, taking the lock
Did anyone try setting __GL_MaxFramesAllowed=1 as discussed in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/1202 ? It helped me to get rid of the lockups on manjaro (didn't try on ubuntu though) ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues #1202 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/1202 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1825626 Title: nvLock: client timed out, taking the lock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-desktop/+bug/1825626/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 410984] Re: Regression: HP hdx 9300 often hangs on boot with acpi enabled
Hi richwillal, how do you increase boot time? Just wait at the grub menu? My most recent kernel bug report is located here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15708&action=View Currently I have no idea what's really causing the issue: ACPI, ATA_PIIX or something else (seems to be some race condition or penalty for booting too fast ;-) If you want to help and have some spare time (and strong nerves) you could try to bisect the kernels - Tejun Heo from kernel.org is really very supportive. ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #15708 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15708 -- Regression: HP hdx 9300 often hangs on boot with acpi enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410984 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
