[Bug 272157] Re: Intrepid Alpha 6 desktop freeze with Gigabyte G45

2008-10-15 Thread Simon Ellwood
I have a GIGABYTE GA-EG45M-DS2H too.

I would hate to have to wait another 7 months to get it working
correctly.

I have the NoAccel flag set at the moment but with that set I get the
impression I am loosing most of the great features of this pretty
expensive motherboard.

I have OpenArena (Quake III) installed and it is totally unplayable at
maybe 2-4 frames per second. Doh !

This is a shame after the thousands of hours the OpenArena team have
spent.

OpenArena has got to be a good advert for open source, the support for
this board is not however at this time.

If was running Windoze it would be running. I will be sticking with
Ubuntu and keeping my fingers crossed that I can make decent use of my
new PC soon!

Cheers.

[Bug 270303] Re: firefox (intrepid): "your browser has been updated and needs to be restarted"

2008-10-22 Thread Simon Ellwood
I have this too. It is annoying but not critical, as I can just ignore
the banner.

[Bug 272157] Re: Intrepid Alpha 6 desktop freeze with Gigabyte G45

2008-10-22 Thread Simon Ellwood
Well I did an update and it is indeed fixed, Hurray!

I have tried OpenArena and the frame rate is up to a playable state !

Thank you Bryce and all the others that helped.

I guess this shows this bug is a duplicate of #285572

[Bug 282179] Re: file-roller crashed with SIGSEGV in strcmp()

2009-01-08 Thread Simon Ellwood
Well I just tried again.

I got the following message :-

7-Zip 4.58 beta Copyright (c) 1999-2008 Igor Pavlov 2008-05-05
p7zip Version 4.58 (locale=en_GB.UTF-8,Utf16=on,HugeFiles=on,2 CPUs)

Error: /home/simon/DS
Roms/[NDS]Ben_10_Protector_of_Earth[EUR][ESPALNDS.com].zip is not
supported archive

Errors: 1

This may be down to me installing 7zip support since the last bug
report.

I had a problem with another similar zip the other day too.

It is tiresome having to use another pc just to unzip stuff!

[Bug 410360] Re: no sound until optional gnome-alsamixer umuted ambiguous devices

2010-03-27 Thread Simon Ellwood
This sounds very similar to an issue I have had for six months now.

Whenever I restart Ubuntu the "gnome alsa mixer" master volume control
is muted. I have to open that optional package and unmute the sound to
proceed. I have to do it from every restart!

When I boot in to kubuntu sound works fine with no extra steps. Ubuntu
needs the volume unmuted.

I am using Intel HDA Optical output on my intel G45 mobo and this
problem started after upgrading to 9.10 and now persists when running
10.04 beta.

[Bug 410360] Re: no sound until optional gnome-alsamixer umuted ambiguous devices

2010-11-30 Thread Simon Ellwood
This is still an issue for me.

Thanks Daniel T Chen for your suggestion but that directory does not
exist on my machine!

As there are so few people here I am guessing that it would not effect a
new install but the problem has persisted after my upgrade to 10.10. I
will maybe do a fresh install of 11.04 to try and fix this next year but
I do not like doing a fresh install to fix issues.

Any more ideas anyone?

What more information is required?
